osteoarthritis

1378884 tn?1315505845 In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
Avatar f tn A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint. Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints.
Avatar m tn Look it is bound that arthritis causes only after 50 sometimes it causes at young age also. Basically the wear and tear of the joints causes joint pain which often arises at older ages. Start some exercises which includes shoulder movements, that relieve some pain.
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
Avatar n tn Causes of knee swelling include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, pseudogout, infection, trauma, and tumors. Causes of generalized swelling (edema) include heart failure, kidney failure, and liver failure (cirrhosis).
657653 tn?1224680706 Hi, How are you? Degenerative arthritis is also called osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" arthritis. It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse.
Avatar f tn I had a severe impact injury and although no bone injury was sustained the x ray showed marginal oesteophytes from L3 to L5 what is this and can this be a result of the injury
Avatar m tn Her age and a history of injury points towards reactive arthritis secondary to osteoarthritis. The best treatment, presently for Osteoarthritis , is Total knee replacement. Can you upload her knee X-rays on the photo section, so that i will be able to comment on that.
Avatar m tn The pain starts years before appreciable changes can be detected through X-rays. A repetitive tendon injury is a likely diagnosis. Also, it could be osteoarthritis since you have pain in both thumbs. Another possibility is rheumatoid arthritis. Both can cause symmetrical joint involvement. The treatment is rest, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Tylenol, Aleve or Mobic. Take care!
Avatar n tn The knee problem might be related to a torn miniscus(the disc in between the knee joint that softens impact and makes movement more fluid) I have torn both of my miniscus when leg pressing 1600lbs. You said you've had mri's done on your shoulder, what about your neck? If not, get your orthopedic doctor to authorize an MRI of the neck w/o contrast. As for the shoulder, I don't really have a definitive answer, maybe a rotator cuff injury...Don't qoute me on that one.LOL Good luck.
Avatar m tn Plantar fascia is a ligament that connects your heel bone to your toes. If it swells, becomes weak or inflamed, it causes these symptoms. After some time, you may feel pain always. The other possibility is osteoarthritis. This also causes pain worse after inactivity—the first few steps always painful. If possible consult a sports injury center. This is equipped with treatment options for plantar fasciitis.
Avatar f tn Bone marrow is made up of bony, fatty, and blood cell–producing material. Bone marrow edema is an area of increased fluid inside the bone. Causes of bone marrow edema include stress fractures, infection, inflammation, and/or cancer.
Avatar f tn Hi there, The exact location of your knee pain can help your doctor determine the nature and severity of your injury. A deformed and swollen knee may indicate a fracture or internal ligament tear. At the same time other causes of knee pain like bursitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis should also be considered .See an orthopaedician. He will examine you and determine if X-rays are needed or not. Take some over the counter analgesic. That may help. Do write to me again with more details.
1378884 tn?1315505845 It felt like someone had driven a knife into my hip. On the injury report I reported hip and low back pain. An Xray was done and then a MRI on my lumbar sacrum area. Slight disk buldge and no impingement on nerves, some early signs of arthritis. I was still complaining about hip pain but no one listened until a month ago.
431950 tn?1262819314 The other possibility is osteoarthritis. This also causes pain worse after inactivity—the first few steps always painful. Please consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this. If possible consult a sports injury center. This is equipped with treatment options for plantar fasciitis. There are various things you can try such as especially designed insoles, night splints and wraps.

1448748 tn?1312956208 I am just concerned that if I think it is a related issue and I leave it alone and it is a separate and serious issue that causes permanent nerve damage... or something I could have done something about but ignored because I thought it was related I will be upset with myself. Does this sound like anything serious that I should do something about or something probably related?
Avatar n tn Well, the first knee could be causing pain due to a cartilage, ligament or a meniscus injury since this happened on using the knee joint. However now since multiple joints are involved, it goes more in favor of associated arthritis. It can be osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or even reactive arthritis. You would need some tests and X-rays of the joints to diagnose this. The pain in the joints can also be due to overweight, hypothyroidism and diabetes. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Certain atrophies are age related like injury, osteoarthritis, severe malnutrition, spinal cord injury, stroke, long-term corticosteroid therapy etc. Consult a neurologist for evaluation and examination. You might require elaborate rehabilitation, certain blood tests, CTscans, EMG, NCV, muscle or nerve biopsy. Further management would be determined by the diagnosis and physiotherapy care. Take care.

11446628 tn?1418298480 I have osteoarthritis in my spine, from neck down. I also have pain in my knee and hands, and my fingers are twisting and have knots. My right knee has had pain and swelling for weeks, and this morning it's too painful to walk. I haven't injured it. Recent blood test didn't report rheumatoid arthritis. So what's going on with my knee, and with my hands?
