Avatar n tn After a month of it not going away and severe pain, had an MRI that showed Grade IV chondromalacia. The doctor told me that surgery is not an option and just to take pain meds and go to physical therapy. I can't believe that's my only option at this point - does anyone have experience with this and should I get a second opinion?
Avatar n tn Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. Your symptom of pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Your other symptom of feeling of grinding and grating is characteristic of osteoarthritis. What is the quality of your pain (sharp, shooting, dull, etc.)?
Avatar m tn I have consulted bone specialist and he said it is Chondromalacia. The knees are not swollened. He prescribed me with Glucosamine and taught me a basic of knees strenghthening physiotheraphy. In addition, he said its unnecessary for me to have a X-Ray screening and surgery as the symptom is mild. FYI, I am not active athlete and has an active routine activity. My question is: a. Can it be fully recovered? How long it will recover?? b. Any alternative medical ???
1378884 tn?1315505845 There is some degenerative osteoarthritis of R hip with some small marginal osteophytes. There is also chondromalacia predominantly along posterior and superior aspect of the femoral head with irregularity of the articular cartilage. No intra-articular loose bodies are identified, allowing for some intra-articular air which was apparently administered at the time of injection. Continued...
Avatar m tn Adults with uncorrected genu valgum are typically prone to injury and chronic knee problems such as chondromalacia and osteoarthritis. In some cases, total knee replacement (TKR) surgery may be required later in life to relieve pain and complications resulting from severe genu valgum.
Avatar n tn Also with the history of pains since childhood there is a chance of chondromalacia. Chondromalacia refers to a softening of the cartilage under the kneecap (patella). It is a common cause of deep knee pain and stiffness in younger women and can be associated with pain and stiffness after prolonged sitting and climbing stairs or hills.
Avatar n tn No osteochondral lesions or loose bodies are identified. There is evidence of chondromalacia at the patelle. No focal chondral defects are identified.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 14 and I've been having knee pain for 2 years. One doctor told me it's growing pains but I don't really believe it, becuase I don't grow much anymore. The second doctor told me it's because I don't have enough synovial fluid in my knee joints and he offered me injections. I don't know what to do. What if there's something else that causes this pain? I've also got knock knees. Can this be the problem? Please help me!
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Chondromalacia Patella and referred for Physiotherapy. Unfortuntely the waiting list is around a year long and the pain is becoming excruciating. I am taking Ibuprofen but I am unable to rest for long. What else can I do? Also, I can move my kneecaps around without even touching them! Is that normal?
Avatar f tn The most frequent causes of running injuries arise from what is known as "training errors". These include poor running shoes, poor running surfaces or terrain, and rapid excessive increases in milage or speed. Any, or all of these, may have been a factor in your recent episode. If so, a short rest, ice, and careful return to activity should suffice. You have not given a history of injury, either recent or remote, so I assume this is not a factor.
Avatar m tn I understand your concern regarding your symptoms. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and it causes pain, swelling, and reduced motion in the joints. if there is no pain associated with the joint cracks or pops, this may be caused by the soft tissue in a joint. Knee popping may also occur if the patella is slightly out of alignment, and rubs on the adjacent tissues. Other causes of joint noise is the snapping of tendons or scar tissue over a prominence, or cavitation.
Avatar f tn ANA can be elevated in people without an autoimmune disorder, especially in us women as we get older. There are several other blood tests that would need to be run called Anti-nuclear Antibody Assays (9 different values) as well as C3 & C4 complement. These combined can help determine or rule out an autoimmune disorder. From my understanding Positive ANA + low C3 + low C4 = possible lupus, they must have run at least the C3 & C4 as well because it came back negative for Lupus.
Avatar f tn my husband is 35 and has suffered with chondromalacia patella for 12 years what could be done to help him as he is in constant pain despite being on oxy contin
Avatar f tn A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint. Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints.
Avatar f tn If an MRI has been done and there have been no abnormalities detected other than chondromalacia; it is highly unlikely for the symptoms to be related to another cause. Management with chondromalacia is largely conservative with rest, anti-inflammatory medications and physiotherapy. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating orthopedician. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
657653 tn?1224680706 Hi, How are you? Degenerative arthritis is also called osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" arthritis. It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse.
209987 tn?1451935465 Though misdiagnosis is a possibility, osteoarthritis may need to be considered in the list as well. Other possible causes include allergies, inflammations, RA, autoimmune conditions, connective tissue disorders etc. You may consider a detailed evaluation by a rheumatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management, if required. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn A preexisting condition called as chondromalacia predisposes individuals to wear and tear of the cartilage under the knee cap. The pattern of cartilage damage seen with chondromalacia is distinct from the degeneration seen in arthritis, and the damage from chondromalacia is thought to be capable of repair, unlike that seen with arthritis. Treatment is by resting the knee and adhering to a proper physical therapy program.
Avatar f tn Are there different types of osteoarthritis, or is there a kind that is systemic? What causes osteoarthriti to become diffuse? (I also have stiff sore muscles and feel ill. It is hard for me to walk too long. My muscle symptoms are not diagnosed, and I hope someone can put the pieces together.) Thank you to anyone who can help me.
510679 tn?1265668267 You can use ice packs to decrease the pain and inflammation along with pain killers. Do not take pain killers on empty stomach as it causes increase gastric acidity and the burning sensation. I would suggest you to follow up with your orthopedic surgeon and if required you can try a steroid injection or viscosupplementation in your joint. Take care!
Avatar m tn Minimal nonspecific heterogeneous signal in the superior labrum suggests degenerative change or minimal nondisplaced degenerative type tear. Low to moderate grade chondromalacia. Last week I visited a different orthopedic surgeon and he said after reviewing the 9/30/11 MRI film, report and the old surgery report (10/27/10); that it was probably the bursitis creating the pain and administered a cortisone injection.
Avatar m tn Possible causes of knee pain that may need to be considered include inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci, chondromalacia patellae, loose bodies, patellar dislocation, nerve impingement/ compression, neuropathy, vascular issues, bone growths/ tumours etc; just to name a few. The ankle and wrist issues would need to be looked into similarly.
Avatar m tn Non Contrasting Inage Performed. Medially, the mniscus, articular caritage, bown marrow and collateral ligament, popliteus and biceps femoris attachment are intact. Normal Cruciate ligament. the Patellofemoral comaprtments unremarkable. Normal articular cartitlage and bone marrow. No evidence of patella alta. Normal extensor mechanism. Minor prepatellar subcutaneous soft tissue oedema is noted. The supra and infrapatellar fat pads are unremarkable. Conclusion Unremarkable study.
Avatar n tn Causes of knee swelling include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, pseudogout, infection, trauma, and tumors. Causes of generalized swelling (edema) include heart failure, kidney failure, and liver failure (cirrhosis).
