Avatar m tn I am feeling that I cannot do much now and I want an opinion from an expert. I started going to gym , which has also a pool, thus I go one hour for weight training and one hour to the pool. However is cycling ok for what I have? Or can I still do? Of course as i understand i have to stop soccer and tennis... The doctor just said: “swimming is good, some light walking, and lose weight”… Thank you in advance and i hope i was clear.
1175033 tn?1492201228 Sure you can do the hula! I've done hula on a couple vacations to Hawaii! ;) You can do just about anything you want as long as it's not high impact - no jumping or long distance running, for example. You can walk, hike, bike, do low impact aerobic exercise, yoga (carefully - certain positions you'll want to avoid), tai chi, swim, light weight training, etc. You'll probably be told not to lift anything heavier than 20 or 30 pounds, and to be careful to avoid falls.

Avatar f tn MRI says- severe bone bruising and bleeding, micro fractures of tibia, 2 complex menus all tears-anterior and posterior, grade2-3 cartilage thinning, fluid above knee and in knee behind patella, bathers cyst, ligament strain, some bone growth and early osteoarthritis. What the hell do I do- I am thinking lose weight, swim, take chondritin, glucosamine, vitamin c, see a knee surgeon... what I DONt want is a knee replacement. It is a bit stiff, swollen and aches.
1066531 tn?1254969334 I’ve been working out for many years now, and i want to know how I can tone my body better without losing a large portion of weight, mostly my chest and midsection? I’m 6ft 198lbs I would like to be around 195 but in much better “shape”. My diet ***** and i’m trying to work on it, but I work out at the gym 2-3 times a week lifting weights and running. I dont run a whole bunch though, would that help my problem or will that just make me lose wieght?
Avatar n tn What is your diet like? You'll need a lot of protein, calcium and an above average calorie intake. Give us an idea of what you eat in an average day. Also to bulk up you want to totally exhaust the muscle. Lift as much weight as you can (ALWAYS tighten your abs when lifting and engage your pelvic floor -the muscles you use to stop the peeing- to protect your low back). You can do fewer reps, but with more weight and stop only when you can't take anymore.
Avatar n tn If you are wanting to loose weight rather than build more muslce I would drop down on the weight you are lifting for your strength training and do more repetitions that way you are still working your muscle but not bulking up so much. Cardio helps maintain your weight so I would recommend more strenth training than cardio but if you are worried about running building up your leg muscles you could do your cardio on an elliptical machine or a stationary bike. Good luck!
Avatar m tn BTW. I used to be a personal trainer. If you are weight training for 2 hours a day and concerned with diabetes, I'd change your split and do about 1 hour a day. After an hour of heavy weight training, your testosterone will lower, and cortisol will raise to give you energy. Cortisol screws with insulin, and raises glucose levels. So if you eat a revovery meal after with carbs, and that cortisol is still in your systems, it will spike blood sugar.
543152 tn?1214312062 She is using Tramadol for pain control and recently had an evaluation in physiatry with an infiltration at C5-6 and C6-7 and has more of these injections planned at the Institut of Physiatry of Québec.
Avatar m tn Give it some time. It took me a while to lose the weight I gained on Paxil, but frankly, I've gained some of it back because I went back on antidepressants. Cardio is important for losing weight and goes along with weight training -- you can't weight train long enough to build muscle if you're not also doing cardio to strengthen endurance and the heart. Athletes usually alternate the two. So if you're not doing any cardio, adding it should speed this along.
Avatar f tn I need to lose 80 lbs. and have osteoarthritis. I've been on a low carb diet twice and both times the arthritis has flared and become quite painful. I think it's an excess of protein. How else can I lose weight? I can't stand being hungry and have good weight loss results with low carb. Help please!
Avatar f tn HAS anyone ever tried either of those for Osteoarthritis which is what I have in my knees and feet? if so please give me all the suggestions. I need to take something NON NARCOTIC and Ibuprophen isn't cutting it...nor is the Calcium, Magnesium Zinc combo Ive been on for 3 months now???? HELP!!!????
Avatar n tn I could not bend my knees at all and standing/walking sent the must excruciating pain through my knees. Went to ER and was told that I had an advanced stage of Osteoarthritis. Always ignored the mild knee pain for years because I only noticed it after working out and assumed it was from that...
Avatar m tn Lots of low impact cardio. Try spin class. I weight 165 lbs and burn 700 calories in 45 minutes at flywheel.
483733 tn?1326798446 My father was disabled from osteoarthritis when I was a teenager and gave up on life. He just ate and sat in his chair watching TV. He is now morbidly obese and as a consequence greatly suffers even more due to the weight on his joints. I am determined to not let that happen to me and this diagnosis is spurring me to lose the weight and stay active. Do any of you have advice on best exercises for an arthritic body?
Avatar f tn I once weighed 210. I now weigh 162. I have lost 48 lbs very slowly, but when I got this heavy manual labor job, it came off faster. The thing is, I've had to quit due to severe chronic pain. I am a 47 year old female with great blood pressure and glucose levels, but I have an emergency inhaler. I am desperately afraid of losing the ground I have gained in my weight loss. I don't want to be fat anymore.
Avatar m tn Osteoarthritic changes are noted in the margin of the lumbar vertebrate with narrowing of L1, L2 and L5 to sacral 1 disc spaces. Line of weight bearing falls anterior to the sacral promontory. I hope you can enlighten me on this. What does the this mean, please? Thank you very much.
532065 tn?1213149801 ve always taken my Synthroid. I never miss taking my medication. Now I have osteoarthritis and it is rapiedly getting worse. In the past year my dr has lowered my dose from .125 daily to .112. Since then I have gained weight and the arthritis in my fingers is getting worse very rapidly and I am wondering if there is a link between the two. I know that the Hashimoto's disease affects my autoimmune system do you think that it can be making my arthritis worst.
1157811 tn?1263831494 Then you can start bending and stretching and do not continue if you experience pain. Weight control and achieving normal BMI in most of the cases reduces back pain completely. If you have chronic pain it is better for you to follow up with an orthopedician before you start any routine physical activity. Take care!
