Osteoarthritis and numbness

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and numbness

osteoarthritis

I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis? I have terrible neck pain and headaches and numbness on left side of body.
I experience pain, especially in the 2 areas that lead to neck and headaches. What other areas of my body does this affect? I do on occasion experience numbness and tingling in both hands and fingers, but will stop when massaged. So, I am looking for other symptoms in my body resulting from the spurs touching nerves in both areas. Thank you. John.
I am 33yo and have just been told I have osteoarthritis in my spine. I have had ct scans and mri scans. Both show calcification and osteoarthritis from my neck to my lumbar area. I frequently get numbness in my legs and hands, severe pain to the point where walking in unbearable. I can not work around the house for more than 15min a day and employment is at the moment out of the question because my back will spasm severly at any time.

I mentioned this to my MD at my annual physical and she felt that it was probably osteoarthritis (mainly due to the fact that there was no redness around the joints). She didn't order any kind of tests to confirm this diagnosis. I've also started to notice some tenderness in my elbow joints when resting my elbows on a table, and my knee joints have been a bit stiff and sore after using my exercise bike.
In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
dear sir from past 6 months i m feeling numbness in both of my hand and feet..can u please help me.
bt now the pain has subsided and for the past few days i feel numbness n my right leg..and the numbness n the right leg increases if i sit for a long time..can u pls tell me what i have to do...
At times the tingling turns into a burning sensation and numbness. I was sent to a neurologist. I had MIRs on my head and upper spine and they both came back fine. The symptoms appear to get worse in the evening and I have had a couple of nights with an upset stomach and hot flashes. Reflexes are normal to slightly diminished and there are no balance issues. There are no vision problems and with the normal MIRs they do not believe it is MS.
Is there any help in sight ? I am 38 yr old male - very active & thought very heathy, 6ft 1 5% bfi & gym 3+ days a week. Chronic neck & hip Osteoarthritis & 24-7 pain breaking me down fast - not able to ignore it any longer & otc meds not helping. Surgery not a $$ option at this time. Neck is spured & chunchy & pretty much killing me - Hip is very narrowed & full of cysts. I guess I am asking... what can I do ?
Hello, can osteoarthritis in the hands cause numbness in the fingers, or shocks like feeling at the tips of all the fingers. I have numbness like a sand paper feeling at the tips of all fingers and weakness in my fingers and strength when i play my guitar.
My left hand middle finger, has been numb for about 4-6 days. I searched on google on what i should do but they all recommend that i should go see a doctor. I dont want to see any doctor at the moment, because its really hard driving outside in this weather. its about 8 inches of snow. Took me 30 minutes the other day trying to get out of my parking lot. Not my whole finger is numb. It just a small part of the my middle finger is numb. It has no pain, it has no white or red color.
I would suggest you get it examined by the doctor who will probably send you for an xray to see if this is a problem with the bones or whether there is a problem with ligaments and muscles. I feel numbness in both my knees, one is from osteoarthritis due to the inflammation, the better one is due to trappend nerves in the groin called meralgia parasthetica. Only by examination of the knee will you know what is causing your problem. Best wishes.
Basically to cut a very long story short I had spinal surgery for scoliosis when I was 17 I was fused from T11 to L3 with a rod and 5 screws... I developed last year osteoarthritis and 2 bulging discs all between L4/5/S1 so had facet joint injections and nerve root blocks. The leg pain went away and I've only had it a little since then on the odd occasion. I have been taking tramadol and have recently come off it..
I have for the past 5 years had a hard time sleeping on my right side but now I am having numbness and tingling in both my arms and hands. My right side is worst with numbness, tingling and sometimes pain from my right shoulder blade down to my fingers. (very annoying) Also these symptoms run down my legs to my feet. Scale from 1:10 on pain w/numbness is about an 8 most of the time. When I sit my legs get numb sometimes. It all gets worst at night.
This winter I began experiencing strange clicks and pains when I moved my neck and an X-ray showed changes consistent with osteoarthritis. I have always been prone to numbness when I cross my legs. I wonder if there is a circulatory problem or what other differentials need to be entertained before i agree to surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome.
The pain sometimes stays in one arm, sometimes in the other or in both. Sometimes it hurts in the chest too. There's also numbness and tingling, some loss of sensation. Before the back pain there were also shooting pains (usually at night) to the base of the skill (just the skull, the bone itself). These have gone away now. There is a history of arthritis; both knees have been replaced. Taking Oxycodone (sp?) for it with mixed results.
I've recently started having pain in my hip on the same leg. The numbness on my thigh is on the outer side. If i stand on my feet too long the pain is very intense.I had an MRI w/o contrast that only showed mild increased t2 signal within the distal gluteus medius muscles and tendons just prior to their insertions upon the greater trochanters and mild degenerative joint disease of the sacroiliac joints. Could these be causeing all my pain?
hi, I have end stage osteoarthritis of the left shoulder along with bicep tendonitis. Had a atroscopic cap release last year had tons of rehap before and after. The last month i noticed extra stiffness tingling down the inside of my arm to my fingers along with increased pain just wondering what this could be very hardto sleep at night.
This week my right butt is painful down to my knee(especially my knee so hot) felt like cramps and numb then now half of my body (right side) felt numb, tingling at the same time cramps i dont knw how to describr it all. Is this curable, what i expect from this??? Thank you...
I am a little better in that I can sit about 5 minutes before the numbness sets in whereas previously it was numb the minute I sat down. I am 65 years old and work at Mass General Hosp. in Boston and being treated there. I have an appt. with a neurosurgeon next week but don't know what to think. Surgery would be my absolute last thing to think about. I think one of the MRI's showed spinal stenosis which seems like a possible problem. I will continue to post my progress.
My problem is frequent slight numbness in my hands when I awake in the middle of the night. I have used Rogaine on my hair since it was approved but have recently stopped because after a few days of using it as directed, the numbness in my hands can extend to the whole arm. Hanging my arm off the side of the bed causes feeling to return in about a minute. A couple of beers at night also seems to make the problem worse.
I have all over body tingeling and numbness, the left side of my face will be completly numb. I have been to neurologist and had MRI of my brain all good, blood pressure great. A Dr.
The next morning, I awoke with an intense right-sided headache (behind right eye) which continues now, but last night, I had shooting pains in my right leg and arm. This led to tingling, and my foot began burning with numbness from the knee down. The headache continues this morning, but the numbness and tingling have almost subsided. I have been having these varied symptoms on and off, days and weeks at a time, for the past two years but never all at once and with such sudden intensity.
Sleeping on it is the only cause of the numbness however, the numbness will last all of the next day but be less worse in the evenings then it is in the mornings. I sometimes experience tingling as well. The area of the numbness is only about the size of a softball located under the hip bone on the very upper portion of the thigh on the side of my leg. Last night I woke up in pain and not only was I experiencing numbness there was also a burning sensation when I went to touch my hip/thigh.
In mid-September I began to experience a numbing sensation in my right foot, and then the same sensation beginning the palm of my right hand and extending to my fingers. Not long after, experienced the same sequence of events with my left foot and hand. No pain, no tingling – just a numbness. Over the past couple of months, the situation has steadily worsened to the extent that it’s now affecting my ability to walk and to use my fingers for simple everyday tasks.
More recently though, I have developed a lot of numbness and tingling in my arms and hands... Sometimes this extends to my legs and feet. It's often worse at night when I will wake up with stiff elbows or knees which seem to be locked in a bent position and I have to slowly straighten them out. I wake up a lot with numb arms which feel heavy and tingly. This is also beginning to happen during the day, even when I am not leaning on that arm or leg.
I get so little sleep, often I cat nap sitting up. Sometimes my head goes off to the right side. Last yr I noticed pressure/numbness upon waking up like this. It would last for a few days and go away, but now it does not go away at all. Have a constant numbness/pressure top of scalp, area inc/dec slightly day to day. Ear/eye pressure & difficulty moving eyes especially up and to sides.
soon thereafter, the same kind of numbness/tingling/flushed feelings spread to my lower legs and feet. ive been having these sensations for the last 9 months and it has made sleeping/working very arduous. i got on a anti-anxiety drug (lexapro) for a while but that only took some of the edge off so i got of it. im now back on just to see if i need more time. additionally, my joints are very sore/inflamed after mild exercise, particularly wrists and knees.
In all probability you have osteoarthritis of hip joint due to injury (and not due to aging). You would need to consult an orthopedic specialist for this. Please go through this link to learn more: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/arthritis.html It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
