513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
529224 tn?1400648219 The other knee was about to be replaced in 2012 and an emergency came in and my OP was postponed.I took up hill walking, despite it hurt, aquafit twice a week and swimming lengths (not breaststroke!) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
Avatar n tn If you get pain in the area when working it...I suppose the only answer is your body is telling you to give it a rest. If heat relieves the pain then go for it. If the joints are inflamed regularly...well then get anti-inflammatories from doc. Not sure what your age is, but over this side of the 'pond' there is a lot of interest in glucosamine+chondroitin+ omega3 combo's as a retardent/help for the disease; best began at an earlier phase I believe.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar n tn It hurts mostly when I walk or put pressure on it. Resting my leg and taking naproxen and ibprofen to reduce inflammation does not seem to be healing it. Is it possible that this injury will require surgery? What should I do?
Avatar f tn Yes, relafen can be used to help with osteoarthritis. Discuss it with your doctor and talk about using it in conjunction with something else to help manage the pain.
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips, one worse than the other. While not in constant pain as yet, my hip joint "catches" every time I get up from sitting and has to crack before I can straighten up. This is very painful. (It is also a problem when turning over in bed.) In a couple of months, I have to take a 7-hour flight, and I am dreading it. It's an overnight flight, which might make it difficuilt to take frequent standing breaks.
Avatar f tn morning stiffness, discomfort and pain in the joints. You did not mention your age but this is a common complaint after 40. That is something you can discuss with you doctor after his vacation. In the meantime, try adding an NSAID such as Motrin (ibuprofen) or Aleve (naproxen) to your regiment as long as you are not allergic and have no contraindications. I hope this will help and do discuss this with your doctor; but as I said before, I don't think those three meds are to blame.
Avatar m tn when i was 14 i was hit by a car and fractured my pelvis, broke my femur and my jaw. i'm now 39 and i'm here to tell you, you WILL experience arthritis in the joints nearest the breaks. you don't have anythng much to worry about now, but when you reach your 30's you may have to start taking ibuprofen or naproxen or somethng to relieve pain. of course, since your break was in a small joint, you may not have much pain at all.

Avatar f tn t give me anything that was dangerous but I researched it and some websites say not to take it during pregnancy ?
Avatar m tn on day 10....today my doctor prescribed me Naproxen for my chronic back pain. I know I could search this, but would rather ask anyone with any experience with it's use. Good idea or not to use after 10 days clean. I dont even know if it's a "mild" narcotic or not, however I believe it's similar to Aleeve. Advice? thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn 00 PM, then in the afternoon the next day, I'd still have the equivalent of 1 unit of Naproxen in my system due to half-life metabolization. This would mean that if I drank alcohol that afternoon, it is the same as if I had just taken 1 naproxen on top of whatever I'm drinking. Yes? I would think so because the liver still has that unit to metabolize on top of the alcohol you are now consuming.
Avatar f tn Naproxen is just ibuprofen, which is Motrin and Aleve. I would think Celebrex would help a lot more than Naproxen. It can't hurt to ask for it. Naproxen didn't do anything for me, except hurt my stomach. The Celebrex helped a lot, right away.
Avatar f tn 3 years ago in middle of night my knees started hurting so bad I was in tears. I couldn't move. It was a sharp pain. The next day my face was puffy. At first I thought it was from crying but it wasn't. My gained weight literally over night. I had abdominal pain along with knee pain and swelling of face. They did scope and colonoscopy and scans. They couldn't tell me what caused it. It went away on its own but since then I've had issues with my knee.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm new to this site. Five months ago I was told I had bursitis of the left hip (its very painful and swollen). Then eventually in June I was offered xrays and a CT scan which showed up slight osteoarthritis in both hips. Would the osteo have caused the bursitis? Also have a burning sensation down the front of my thighs. Then two months ago I started having pins and needles in my right hand quite a bit during the day.
415109 tn?1304890182 It is getting worse despite massage, ice, naproxen and Tyl#3. Today I actually broke down and went to clinic and got cortisone shot but it feels worse. I know it takes awhile for stuff to work but this is a real pain! I do have osteoarthritis and religiously take my calcium and exercise-any suggestions on what else to try? I do also have scoliosis and have it at that level-any relationship?
Avatar m tn My pulse is exceptionally weak and my blood pressure is 156/90 after taking one (1) 500mg Naproxen and an amphetamine. I went and got my blood pressure checked, as well as my resting heart rate. The nurse never actually tried to feel my pulse, though. So I came home and I am very worried about how weak my pulse is. Has anybody heard weather or not taking Naproxen with an amphetamine can be harmful because it is not in the drug facts and I cannot find anything about it online either.
Avatar f tn I have the same thing for ten years- pain and foot stiffnes in the morning for ten years- better after walking for ten minutes till 2 weeks ago- all of a sudden the pain was severe and constant with a throbbing- no over the counter meds worked so I made an appointment for a podiatrist- he gave me a prescription for naproxen (whitch didn't work and made my stomache on fire for hours) he diagnosed me with mortons toe- if your big toe is shorter than your second toe you have mortons toe- it can
Avatar f tn It has been so very very depressing and I find it hard some days to go on. I am 7 weeks post-op and saw my surgeon today. He said my knee is very very bad and, at 12 weeks post-op, we'll be gearing up for my second, and much more invasive, surgery. I have many areas of exposed bone but, because of my age, my surgeon will not consider a knee replacement. I am in a severe amount of pain daily. I had been taking norco since the surgery but am going to try a break from those.
Avatar n tn Naproxen is similar to Motrin or Nuprin or any of the other anti-inflammatory agents that are used to relieve menstrual pain, and it is very safe and works very well. It is my number one choice to prescribe for dysmenorrhea. If you are at the point in life that you are "trying" you could still use it during your periods-- just not during ovulation. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I am 52 and had fusion surgery on a pinched nerve that I had on the L5 of the spine in 2012. I had no problems in 2013. This year, 2014, about a month ago, I started getting a numbness, tingling, pins & needles feeling on my left leg and right foot big toe. I have osteoarthritis and had fusion surgery in May on my right foot big toe that goes numb. The pain would start in my hip/buttock area on the left side and would go down to my outer shin area.
Avatar m tn Sometimes, this stuff JUST HAPPENS. You'll drive yourself nuts just trying to figure out what the cause is. I'm not a doctor, nor am I smart enough to tell other people what to do. But let me tell you, if you can find a good physical therapist (I found one trained in the Mackenzie Technique, which may or may not be good for you), you may be able to dump most or all of those expensive side-effect causing medications!
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
