osteoarthritis

Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar f tn If not I encourage you to see him/her. At 19 you are pretty young to have osteoarthritis. However because both of your knees are painful an inflammatory condition such as arthritis should be ruled out. This can be done with a simple x-ray and maybe some a lab work to rule out something like rheumatoid arthritis. In the meantime you may want to rotate heat and ice on your knees. Ask your pharmacist about an OTC NSADI. A little treatment may bring you some comfort until you can see your PCP.
529224 tn?1400648219 If you have pain on rest, or as soon as you start walking, or there is too much of bending of your knees, then you should not waste any time and get the replacement done. However if you have a good walking distance (say more than 2-3 kms), then you will benefit from Synvics injections or a steroid injection also. So you tell me, wht's your walking distance?
Avatar n tn First, go to an orthopedic doc, not your general practice doc. Get xrays, especially a standing xray if it's in your knees or ankles. My doc started me on Relafen (sp?) and physical therapy- The pills take the edge off the pain and the therapy will (hopefully) help strenghten the muscles around my joints. Good luck!
Avatar f tn If you do a web search on "growing cartilage for knees" you'll find some articles about experiments being done that grows cartilage using tissue from the patient's own body, which is then inserted. I'm not sure how you would get in on these trials, though - I'm pretty sure it's not yet a standard procedure that insurance companies will cover.
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar f tn The first thing you should do is get a present day X-ray scans of your knees and confirm progressive osteoarthritis and ligament damage in both legs. Talk with an expert orthopedician who is involved for more than 10 years in knee replacement surgeries. There is no reason to fear and get ready for intense physiotherapy. Start having proper diet and take the help of a counselor and build enough courage to take it forward.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar n tn I could not bend my knees at all and standing/walking sent the must excruciating pain through my knees. Went to ER and was told that I had an advanced stage of Osteoarthritis. Always ignored the mild knee pain for years because I only noticed it after working out and assumed it was from that...
2167803 tn?1338529751 Im 33 and in cold weather i feel pain in my knees especially when knees r bent for more than an hour the pain is severe.when i stretch my legs the pain shoots up and becomes unbearable for a minute or too and then disappears. When i bend knees the same thing happens. What is this?
Avatar n tn Hi, My daughter is seven years old and has been complaining of behind knees and elbows pain for the past three months now. She has no swelling on either her knees or elbows. Please help as i am so worried about my daughter.
Avatar n tn Hi it is my first time ever posting on a forum, i need help and advise as to the best way to get help and treatment for pain that im in.
Avatar m tn The thumb joint at the palm is swollen (knobby) and occasionally aches and/or gets stiff. I'm in otherwise excellent shape for a 59-year-old man: I've exercised regularly for decades, eaten well, am often mistaken for 40s. I've recently considered taking up the piano again after decades of not playing. Would this hurt my hand, would it accelerate the progression of arthritis? Or would it help? Many thanks.
Avatar f tn 14 Months ago I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both knees and Buritis in my hips. It came on suddenly and it is very painful. I have seen 2 specialists and have had 2 lots of steroid injections in both knees and one steroid injection in my right hip. I have been taking Meloxicam and painkillers. Today I have been to see a specialist with the view to having knee replacement surgery. After looking at my recent x rays he has informed me that I have Avascular Necrosis in both knees.
Avatar n tn Voltaren Topical Gel is used to treat joint pain in the hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, or feet caused by osteoarthritis. This medication is for pain. I do not see why a patient with respiratory condition, specifically COPD cannot be safe using the drug for musculo-skeletal pain relief, unless otherwise contraindicated or advised by the physician. Please consult your doctor for further advise.
Avatar f tn I'm thinking about getting radio frequency ablation on my knees for severe osteoarthritis. I'm in my 40s and not ready for total knee replacements yet. I've had a total of 3 surgeries, countless series of HA injection, got an ulcer from anti-inflammatory meds and don't want to be taking lots of prescription pain meds. Has anyone had this done on their knees? Any regrets? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Sherry, Speaking as someone with two arthritic knees, anything that affects your gait can add to the wear and tear on your knees. When I hurt my first knee, that made me walk funny, which probably didn't do the other knee any good, then I hurt the good knee. OK, maybe I just have bad genes, but I do know when I limp, my knees hurt worse. I think that thigh atrophy and tight calf muscle would definitely pull things out of their normal position, causing extra wear and tear.
Avatar n tn The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis. Can this cause my symptoms? Can multiple joints hurt bilaterally with this for of arthritis? As far as I know my joints are not swollen much at all.
1239564 tn?1268168890 menisci, cruciates and collaterals. Scans of your knee will be helpful. ( X-rays and MRI ) I would suggest you to continue physical exercise with proper footwear and also limit pressure at your knee. You can go for swimming if you can and also follow up with an orthopedician for proper diagnosis and try to achieve normal BMI. Take care!
Avatar m tn I wish you the very best and HOPE you will continue to post on MH (MedHelp) and share you experiences and help others in that way. I'll be watching for your updates. :) .........
Avatar n tn Not sure if all the symptoms are directly related to Atenelol since my mother has a osteoarthritis of the knees as well but seems to be my knees seem to hurt more within the last year than ever before. I went to see my physician (family dr) who prescribed 5mgs of Amlodopine to be taken once a day in the morning.
532065 tn?1213149801 I need both of my knees replaced. I have it in my neck, spine, shoulders, fingers, hips, knees and feet. This all started in 2000 right around the time I was diagnosed with Hashi's. I didn't know that Hashi's and arthritis were connected. But upon thinking about it as an autoimmune disease I see how this can happen. It is really the pits. I keep worrying that I will end up in a wheel chair if this arthritis doesn't slow down. I guess all we can do is keep fighting.
Avatar f tn I am not talking about your Orthopedician who has specialized himself for knees. There are Orthopedicians who look beyond knees and arthritis, you can go to them or you need to go to individual specialists which will be cumbersome for you with multiple problems. You need to explain your medication and history to each specialist. Orthopedician specialized for knees, Orthopedician specialized for feet, and Orthopedician/Neurologist specialized for back and so on.
620923 tn?1452915648 I have /gerd/reflux and Migraines, as well as Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis in my spine and right knee, Epilepsy, Sharj
272434 tn?1228607209 I also have carpal tunnel and I have osteoarthritis. Both very painful, and I also need surgery, and I told them not right now. I take a long time to heal, and that alone is enough for me not to have surgery. I also use splints at night, and I have had to cut back on my quilting, but I refuse to stop all together. The osteoarthritis I have in all of my joints as well as RA, I have a triple whammy.
Avatar m tn To start with both the knees need to be X-rayed, and RA factor and antinuclear antibody (ANA) levels detected in blood. If nothing is detected then MRI may be done. Take care!
Avatar m tn ve been getting moderately stiff and achy knees when sitting the last few weeks especially when my knees are in the 90 degree position. Both knees are effected evenly; and this feeling sets in as little as ten minutes after sitting. Its almost the same type of feeling you get when you havn't moved for many many HOURS, and this feeling of needing to stretch to alleviate the rigarmotis. When i get up, walk around and stretch the feeling goes away; but once i sit it returns again.
