Avatar f tn I had a severe impact injury and although no bone injury was sustained the x ray showed marginal oesteophytes from L3 to L5 what is this and can this be a result of the injury
1378884 tn?1315505845 In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
11446628 tn?1418298480 I also have pain in my knee and hands, and my fingers are twisting and have knots. My right knee has had pain and swelling for weeks, and this morning it's too painful to walk. I haven't injured it. Recent blood test didn't report rheumatoid arthritis. So what's going on with my knee, and with my hands?
Avatar m tn Back in July 2013, I developed pain in both thumbs while playing my banjo. I had recently started new playing techniques on the banjo with both hands. I am 48 years old. I've been to a hand therapist and she believe it is some type of repetitive stress injury and since then I've only play a little and have used splints and exercises etc. I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis.
1378884 tn?1315505845 It felt like someone had driven a knife into my hip. On the injury report I reported hip and low back pain. An Xray was done and then a MRI on my lumbar sacrum area. Slight disk buldge and no impingement on nerves, some early signs of arthritis. I was still complaining about hip pain but no one listened until a month ago.
Avatar n tn It has been drained 3 times and each time the fluid has been tested and found nothing. Each time it swells it is seemingly random with no injury and with no intense workout or vigorous activity the day or two before. My family doctor thought it was gout but there were no crystals found, another thought it was osteoarthritis but that has been ruled out through X-rays and CT scans, same with autoimmune.
Avatar f tn Hi there, There are several conditions which can cause one sided ankle swelling. A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
Avatar n tn When hepatocytes (functional liver cells) are injured due to viral infection, alcohol consumption, toxins, trauma, or other factors the immune system is activated and the repair process swings into gear. The injury or death (necrosis) of hepatocytes stimulates inflammatory immune cells to release cytokines, growth factors, and other chemicals.
Avatar m tn Although they say this is due to wear and tear and more likely in older people. It actually starts very slowly and gradually and progressively gets worse. The most common forms of arthritis is Rheumatoid arthrtiis which an autoimmune disorder, and Ostearthritis with loss of cartligate in between the joints causing wear and tear on the joints. The usual symptoms are pain, sometimes swelling and tenderness of the joints, and stiffness.
Avatar n tn Osteophytes are the body’s attempt to compensate for existing bone and ligament degeneration due to age or injury. Unfortunately, the body’s attempt to heal itself this way is unsuccessful. Osteophytes are formed by the body for the purpose of limiting or stopping motion in a deteriorating joint that becomes too loose. Since degenerative joint conditions are characteristic of athletes and the aged, osteophytes are common in those with sports related injuries or arthritis.

Avatar n tn Certain atrophies are age related like injury, osteoarthritis, severe malnutrition, spinal cord injury, stroke, long-term corticosteroid therapy etc. Consult a neurologist for evaluation and examination. You might require elaborate rehabilitation, certain blood tests, CTscans, EMG, NCV, muscle or nerve biopsy. Further management would be determined by the diagnosis and physiotherapy care. Take care.
Avatar f tn i gotten in a bad accident a few years ago and severley messed up my left hand. had alot of surgeries at HCMC in minnesota and they pretty much reconstructed my hand but apart from severe nerve damage and tendon damage my hand is still technically all "natural" material if you will. ive had many stiches and some were placed on my middle finger on the middle knuckle and there was a small peice of stuture left in there.
Avatar m tn Hello I am new to this forum and hopeful that somebody can solve this mystery for me. https://imgur.com/a/hQ7N2Cq Gallery of injured and non injured shoulder for reference. This dent appeared about two months ago after My right shoulder went through a subluxation during a warm up bench press of 40 lbs. I am a government employee and declined E.R. (terrible idea) for my appointed doctor.
Avatar m tn The knee and elbow injury may not have been noticeable in the face of the head injury. It could also be reactive arthritis due to the trauma or a flare of rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. Please show this to your doctor for further evaluation and treatment. Take care! 408795 tn?1324935675 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.

But for last 15 days, pain has also started in her right knee. She was continuing feeling some movement and uneasiness in her knees. There is also pain in her ankles and forefoot.
Avatar f tn Bone marrow edema is typically a response to an injury such as a fracture or conditions such as osteoarthritis. Bone marrow edema usually resolves itself with rest and physical therapy. Osteitis pubis is a condition in which there’s inflammation where the right and left pubic bones meet at the lower front part of the pelvis. The pelvis is a set of bones that connect the legs to the upper body. It also supports the intestines, bladder, and internal sex organs.
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
159619 tn?1707018272 I posted a couple of weeks ago about a recent MCL injury. I got my MRI results back and it does show a grade II MCL injury without a complete tear. However, it also showed "significant early tricompartmenal degenerative changes, greatest in the patellofemerol compartment as well as areas of significant chondral thinning and irregularity". I knew I had this going on in the other knee and we always suspected it in this one, I guess we just confirmed OA is getting worse.
Avatar n tn The acromioclavicular (AC) joint in the shoulder is a common spot for osteoarthritis to develop in middle age. Degeneration of the AC joint can be painful and can cause difficulty using the shoulder for everyday activities. I also believe that your Knee can be affected in the same way. Arthroscopic Distal Clavicle Excision VideoSome joints in the body are more likely to develop problems from normal wear and tear. Degeneration causes the cartilage that cushions the joint to wear out.
Avatar n tn If this is an acute pain then it can be due to any injury, fall and involvement of muscles and ligaments and for this you would need MRI for diagnosis. If you have this since long then rule out bursa involvement. Wait for your lab results and rule out Rheumatoid arthritis, Rheumatic fever, osteoarthritis and go for a spinal X-ray and MRI of lower spine and hip. Take care!
