( X-rays and MRI ) I would suggest you to continue physical exercise with proper footwear and also limit pressure at your knee. You can go for swimming if you can and also follow up with an orthopedician for proper diagnosis and try to achieve normal BMI. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in the left knee and beginning in the right knee four years ago. I was told that I was bone on bone in the left knee. Since I was only 50 years old the doctor said that I was too young for surgery. Four years later, 1 less thyroid, additional weight, I have been told I am too fat and I need to get my BMI down before they would consider.
Avatar m tn 1- Now I am down to 183 which gives me a BMI of 24.1- On the BMI scale the low end of 18.5 I would need to weigh 140 lbs. So my question is how can BMI be accurate- a 6'1" man wieghing 140 lbs? Is that even possible?
Avatar m tn good question rock. how much did you lose first week? i lost 7 pounds from 192- 185.
Avatar m tn so if a person is 200 lbs and in good shape with no fat with a 25 BMI...as opposed to a person that is 175 and outta shape and obese...do ya think the 200 lb person would be more likey to SVR ,even tho he is heavier...i guess we have to factor inthe fatty liver equatio too...AWWW...its all a c.rap shoot...
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
529224 tn?1400648219 The other knee was about to be replaced in 2012 and an emergency came in and my OP was postponed.I took up hill walking, despite it hurt, aquafit twice a week and swimming lengths (not breaststroke!) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar m tn t expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn Does osteoarthritis generally cause an elevated Sed Rate and and elevated C-Reactive Protein? Anyone have these tests elevated with your condition? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi,thanks in advance for any responses...much appreciated and my drs. do not know. I've been menopausal since Nov.2011(my last period) and I've been diag.hypothyr.about 3-5 yrs. I'm currently on estrogen patch+progesterone+150 mcg synthroid. Wondering if anyone has had experience with hip (actually where the leg and hip meet)pain that disturbs their sleep? Also on another note wondering the best labs to target any such problems, whether hormone or thyroid related.
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. 687561 tn?1238400426 I consider myself a recovering anorexic. I am 22 and I have spent a LOT of time dealing with my eating/weight issues. I'm honest about everything... I know I still have a long mountain to climb as far as becoming completely healthy but I am really working on myself and I am following a healthy Raw Food diet and I exercise everyday. I am single but someday I hope to fall in love, get married, and have a family... but I have NEVER had a period.
Avatar f tn Is anyone really overweight like bmi 44 and pregnant? Im in the process of loosing weight but I wanted to know if this is as big a factor as I think it is or not - thanks everyone. Trying not to stress!!
Avatar m tn I am 5ft. 5in. and have a BMI of 23.3. I have tiny (but strong) bones. I am recovering from a disability that has caused a loss of muscle mass, though I have been building them up for the past two months, now, at the gym and with other forms of exercise. Are my tiny bones a factor? Meaning can I actually be overweight? Perhaps calculating BMI is more reliable using the under water method. Thinking about it, it makes more sense to me.
Avatar f tn Previous health-worked fulltime around 50 hours a week or more, constantly going and doing, did many family dinners, active runner, won divisional 5k first place and masters and weight trained. BMI is around 20. Gradually, my health began to change, and it got to the point, the pain was out of control in my bones and muscles, I had to do something. I couldn't run as fast, or continue to do the things I loved doing. Fatique was so bad, I slept at lunch.
11827513 tn?1421384708 so what i did may not be enough, i was bmi 25 and got bmi 22, i think a lot of gym (i suggest swim) may be needed, but i am sorry i am not expert on overweight and how to lose it, we have good food in italy and bmi over 25 is very rare, at 25 we are already considered overweight latest research shows that microbiome, vit d and processed foods/bad quality foods may be the source of overweight.
Avatar f tn Has anyone in the UK with a high bmi had their first ultrasound yet and their hospital doctors appointment? Mines on Friday 2nd and just wondering what to expect at the docs appt.
Avatar f tn Ive never had a problem in my pregnancies this is my third. I guess it kinda depends how under weight and low her bmi is. I drink ensure plus calories for weight gain. Maybe look into something like that to help her along? I have never been categorized as high risk due to my weight but I can say that being high risk they will generally just monitor her more closely to make sure baby is growing well. That may mean extra ultrasounds and doc appointments.
