Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and allied disorders

osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn I have had blood tests for arthritis, Osteoarthritis and connective tissue disorders. All came back clear. These were all reviewed by a specialist who said there was nothing he could see that could be causing the problems. So now I have no idea what to do?? I am a 30 year old male however I feel like I'm 80. I haven't exercised in years due to my fragile joints. Can you shed some light on what may be causing these symptoms??
690327 tn?1255354511 I am only joimning here and saying some of my disorders. I have at the tender age of 16 juvenille Rheumatoid Arthritis, at first it was horrible, then at the age of 24, I was told in remission, but I have it back, also I have osteoarthritis very bad. My Mother had osteoporosis, so of course I also inherited that. Now, I am told I have Fibromyalgia. I used to not ne sick, but now, I am in pain all day every day!
Avatar n tn htm There are many things that can cause the swelling ect that you are having but this is a general area to start getting checked. I take black cherry extract for my osteoarthritis and it works great for the swelling ect. I hope you get a diagnosis soon and get better quick. Best wishes.
209987 tn?1451935465 My mom says that her Osteoarthritis does NOT cause her hands to become red, hot, and swollen every morning. She says they become stiff, swollen, and painful. I just read elsewhere that her symptoms are typical of osteoarthritis...mine are not. In fact, the article said that red and hot are not signs of osteoarthritis at all, but they could be symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, major organs shutting down, allergies, etc. My doctor looked at my hands one day and said that I had osteoarthritis...
Avatar f tn While yes, it is possible to have a slightly high count without any cause of concern, it is best to rule out certain conditions which can slightly raise the WBC count due to inflammation. These conditions are stress—physical or emotional, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, thyroid disorders, IBS, Crohn's, celiac, food intolerance, insertion of an IUD (in women), food intolerance, anemia, allergy, dermatitis etc. Do discuss this with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn Hep C can trigger Autoimmune disorders and you are symptomatic and you have some abnormal lab work. So I really do not know why your Rheumatologist is not investigating further. The VA system may explain that. I don't think they like to delve too deep and uncover potentially expensive problems. Your doctor cannot assume your positive RA test is due to Hep C. It could be, but it may not be. While most people with Autoimmune disorders do have a positive ANA, not all of them do.
Avatar f tn The Republican Party of Florida used Virginia-based Strategic Allied Consulting to help register and turnout voters in Florida, one of a shrinking handful of states President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are contesting. The Florida state party had paid the firm more than $1.3 million so far, and the Republican National Committee used the group for almost $3 million of work in Nevada, North Carolina, Colorado and Virginia.
Avatar f tn penetrating ulcer in stomach, pancreas, and frozen shoulder is a common cause for stiffness and pain in shoulder. This could also be a sign of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Consult an orthopaedician for assessment and a physician if there are no bony or cartilaginous causes found. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean? This discussion is related to TSH declining .
Avatar f tn I think that thigh atrophy and tight calf muscle would definitely pull things out of their normal position, causing extra wear and tear. I think osteoarthritis is less of a bummer than rheumatoid, so maybe it could just be a bow on your neat single package. Kathy I would LOVE to wrap up everything in a nice single package! I have so much going on that I totally confuse my doctors. I get confused myself, trying to figure it all out so I can make the most out of my life.
915277 tn?1252573113 That is an excellent question! Gout is not an autoimmune condition. It is caused by the bodies inability to process uric acid. These crystals build up in joints and cause extreme pain. Autoimmune conditions are caused by the immune system going haywire and attacking itself. Gout can sometimes be misdiagnosed as RA, bursitis, osteoarthritis and reactive arthritis among others.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
529224 tn?1400648219 The other knee was about to be replaced in 2012 and an emergency came in and my OP was postponed.I took up hill walking, despite it hurt, aquafit twice a week and swimming lengths (not breaststroke!) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar m tn t expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn Does osteoarthritis generally cause an elevated Sed Rate and and elevated C-Reactive Protein? Anyone have these tests elevated with your condition? Thanks!
