Osha ammonia exposure limits

Common Questions and Answers about Osha ammonia exposure limits

ammonia

Avatar f tn The vet who was talking to the couple and she went into the room where the catboxes were, and commented on the smell, and she had handheld meter that she set down on the floor. It measured ammonia in the air. OSHA has limits of something like 25 ppm for people working in industry, apparently over that amount of ammonia in the air is bad for the lungs. As they were talking, the meter went over 25, then over 40, then over 60, then I think it stopped in the 70s or 80s.

For example, for toluene: http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/81-123/pdfs/0619.pdf A more difficult challenge is knowing what the actual levels of the chemicals are in your work setting. When chemicals are used under hood that are designed properly and functioning well, the air levels are presumable quite low and within recommended limits. One employer explains their approach to this topic at: http://ehs.ucsc.
Avatar f tn Whole body limit = 1.25 rem/qtr or 5 rem (50 mSv) per year (approx. 2.5 mrems/hr for all work hours). Hands and feet limit = 18.75 rem/qtr. Skin of whole body limit = 7.5 rem/qtr. Total life accumulation = 5 x (N-18) rem where N = age. Can have 3 rem/qtr if total life accumulation not exceeded. Restricted areas at 200 mrem/hr. Posting at 200 and 100 mrem/hr. Note: New recommendations reduce the 5 rem to 2 rem.
Avatar f tn The nurse gave me the run around and said they were within normal limits. Without the limits in fornt of me I don't know what they are. My husband went to Utah 2 days after I called, and all of a sudden they were checking ammonia levels and trating him with Lactolose, which I know is the appropriate Tx. I know that Hep patients need to be monitored for elevated ammonia levels, so why did it take me, a CNA of 17 years, to be the one who brought this to their attention?
Avatar m tn The Rifaximin works by cleaning any gut bacteria which decreases the amount of ammonia in the body which limits the amount that can cross the blood brain barrier thereby reducing the risk of encephalopathy and the neuro related symptoms.

1134500 tn?1260875857 hi there i am a chronic cluster headache sufferer and i worked on a electro chemical machine for 8 years, after 4 years i started getting very painfull headaches,i went to a neurologist and he diagnosed me with cluster headaches.after reaserch on my machine i was exposed to ammonia gas given off from sodium nitrate in the water, the ph level was 12 when i found out after ph of 7 ammonia gas is given off,i was not protected by any ppe.
696412 tn?1227918642 Because of hospital policy, my bloods have been taken for storage and I will have follow-up bloods, but I was discouraged from taking post exposure prophylaxis. While this as a good sign (clearly it was thought some stomach upsets were not worth tolerating in view of the miniscule risk) I am worried at the risk to my long-distance boyfriend, who I am due to visit just after my 6 week blood test.
Avatar f tn Can a person have elevated ammonia in bloodstream from an environmental exposure? And what would the symptoms be?
Avatar m tn Hi dr. Anitha, thanks for your answer, but it's the mesothelioma im worried about most. If let's say I created dust by the small renovation, that dust will remain in the house. Also I know chrysotile creates asbestosis for long term exposure but this glue might have other asbesto's. Is one time exposure to other asbestos bad?
Avatar m tn People working in industries where hydrogen sulfide exposure is common, but is usually below the OSHA 8-hour standard (10,000 ppb), may have decreased lung function and increased risk of spontaneous abortion and impaired neurological functions (including reaction time, balance, color discrimination, short-term memory and mood) compared to unexposed workers.
Avatar n tn For your information the occupational exposure time lines are set by OSHA and the healthcare insurance companies, not the CDC. A conclusive test is 3 months post exposure by the CDC and has been since 2004.
648017 tn?1247999424 ok thanks. thanks for the head's up. so would you suggest i get the PEP? i'm sure i'll be forced to but if its an option. what's your opinion?
Avatar n tn Healthcare guidelines are set by OSHA,workmans compensation and the companies medical insurance. .

Avatar m tn 3 months post exposure even if you have active HCV. HCV does not block HIV antibody production.
Avatar f tn The pungency is not likely to be caused by urine, which is more like alkaline ammonia, so if you have not other complaints, I would argue that your vagina is healthy. Otherwise seek out your physician. Hope that helps!
Avatar f tn he can get a box of 100 gloves for 5 dollars from his supply rep. i would find another dentist AND report him to OSHA. go to the OSHA website and they will walk you thru it. good luck!
Avatar m tn I am starting to wonder if it is due to lead and aspestos exposure. He is in construction and they fix up a lot of old houses and has had a lot of exposure to both.
Avatar m tn I have a real concern about HIV rashes. Can they start eight months after exposure? What do they look and feel like? I have small bumps under my mouth and nose and they itch.
Avatar f tn Anyone have elevated ammonia levels? Are you having any symptoms and at what level did your symptoms start? I just had my first ammonia screening done and the level came back 119, with less than 47 being the reference range. I'm not having any symptoms. This seems to be the story of my life. All of my labs are going whacky and I'm still feeling fine. I'm afraid one of these days it's all going to hit and I'll be a mess.
Avatar m tn I don't know where you are obtain your information but it's incorrect. 3 months post exposure is conclusive unless your employment's insurance and OSHA require you to test longer.
Avatar f tn So does the cdc say three months from exposure? Or three months from last dose of pep? All I can find from the cdc is exposure and nothing about having to test from last dose of pep. I assume that the thinking behind that would be that pep could delay antibody response since we know that it slows viral replication. But why dosent the cdc claim this then? Is my nine week post pep, and 13 week 2 day from exposure, plus my pcr tests enough?
Avatar f tn txguy84 asked about dust from broken glass NOT fiberglass. So what is the answer as I would like to know the answer as well. I accidentally broke a huge vase that shattered all over the floor and after sweeping and picking up the large pieces, I vacuumed up the dust and may have inhaled some of the dust coming from the vacuum vents. Should I be concerned about my lungs? What, if anything, happens? Will I be coughing up blood at a later time in my life?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me yes at my last visit when I asked, just ammonia free and a well ventilated area...
