566175 tn?1278430472 Recommended duration of treatment is five days, and for chemoprophylaxis is 10 days. Oseltamivir and zanamivir treatment and chemoprophylaxis regimens recommended for pregnant women are the same as those recommended for adults who have seasonal influenza. Recommendations for use of antivirals for pregnant women might change as additional data on the benefits and risks of antiviral therapy in pregnant women become available.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how old are the stocked Tamiflu and Relenza antivirals that the U.S. plans to use if this swine flu worsens? See my post above; if we don't know whether Tamiflu or Relenza past their expiration date [2 years for tamiflu] have still any efficacy, and we don't know how old or new the U.S. stockpiled quantities of these drugs are, then how do we know whether (or rather, to what degree) they are effective?
Avatar f tn s sudden appearance might have been a side effect of TAMIFLU which is now known to rich (oseltamivir substance) the blood-brain barrier and cause irreversible dammages to brain. As a conclusion, TAMIFLU appeared to be responsable of a "medecinal intoxication" causing the narcolepsy-cataplexy I suddenly suffer since then. Several Years after, we hear about narcolepsy cases caused by the massive H1N1 vaccinations...
372366 tn?1284403873 Copyman, I think we have a rhyme for teleprivir now). Ribavirin is not one of those listed. But being a suspicicious person, I have a theory of why riba is not a suggest 'stockpiled' anti-viral. If governments and business were to create significant stockpiles of ribavirin they could be accused of accumulating weapons of mass destruction. And we all know what that could cause.
982641 tn?1252025412 I recently read an article that said that overuse of antiviral medications like Tamiflu and Relenza could potentially ease the way for drug resistant strains of H1N1. The CDC and WHO are recommending that patients with mild to moderate symptoms should not take antiviral medication. Just a thought.
4355200 tn?1354593144 In postmarketing experience, rare cases of anaphylaxis and serious skin reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and erythema multiforme, have been reported with TAMIFLU. Tamiflu should be stopped and appropriate treatment instituted if an allergic-like reaction occurs or is suspected.
Avatar m tn They may be candidates for oseltamivir (Tamiflu), which speeds recovery and helps prevent complications. Also, even healthy or strong individuals benefit it started early -- anyone who is just starting to become ill (within 2-3 days) should see the doc.
Avatar f tn Hi to all, Hope you're all having a peaceful, not crazy holiday season! I have a question. I've had lingering bronchitis since 11/17. Started Harvoni :-) 12/1 4 wk labs on Monday. I'm feeling really good now w/ Harvoni end week 4. Unfortunately :(, I have been at veterinarian hospital with a very sick cat many days this week. Unfortunately, many staff there, including doc in room with me have been hit with H3 flu.
Avatar m tn this is why Roche is amazing: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090426/hl_nm/us_flu_drugs "Roche Holding AG's Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, and GlaxoSmithKline Plc's Relenza, or zanamivir, are both recommended drugs for seasonal flu and have been shown to work against viral samples of the new disease. Tamiflu is expected to be in greatest demand should swine flu develop into a pandemic, as experts fear it may, since it is given as a tablet. Relenza must be inhaled.
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
358304 tn?1409709492 Once you have the flu, vaccines are ineffective because it is prophylaxis (preventing it), but doctors can prescribe antivirals like Tamiflu and Relenza for treatment to help with recovery with both the seasonal and swine flu. My wife is also pregnant and half the doctors at her OB office want her to get the H1N1 vaccine and the other half have said not to, because she has never even had a flu shot before, so even doctors have differing opinions over this.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?

Avatar f tn Mrs A Being in the uk i agree its silly my child was dx over the phone you are not allied to go out and the drs wont come out to you as they dont want to get it so you have a flu buddy who goes and collects the tamiflu if they feel you need it they felt we didnt, its been 3 days and she is already improving her temp has stopped and her bad headache and sore throat it seems to be a very mild illness in older children and adults the temp is the worst bit she was up to 41 c at one point but came
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar n tn Flu vaccine does not work. But Tamiflu is safe. Rest with plenty of fluids and it shall pass.
Avatar n tn told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks and have the flu. I spoke with my ob last night and he said that he woukd not prescribe me tamiflu because pregnant women shouldn't take antiviral medication. He said to rest and get plenty of fluids and keep monitoring baby's movement.
167 tn?1374173817 OB says to take Tamiflu and start today, but Tamiflu is not recommended for pregnancy based on unknown reactions to unborn children. Hubby and I don't know what decision is the best for us. Any opinions? The prescription is waiting for me...just so scared either way. I am leaning towards taking my chances and not taking it, but that is not the recommendation. What if I harm my baby by taking it? What if I do by not taking it??
Avatar f tn Get to a doctor and get a tamiflu prescription asap if you test positive. It took me almost a month to recover.
Avatar n tn Ive already started taking tamiflu and cough syrup with a decongestant. How dangerous is the flu to my baby. I know a high temperature can cause birth deffects. Luckly i havent had a fever. But what about the virus in general?
