Pregnancy should not be considered a contraindication to oseltamivir or zanamivir use. Pregnant women might be at higher risk for severe complications from swine influenza, and the benefits of treatment or chemoprophylaxis with zanamivir or oseltamivir likely outweigh the theoretical risks of antiviral use.
566175 tn?1278430472 Treatment and chemoprophylaxis The currently circulating swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is sensitive to the neuraminidase inhibitor antiviral medications zanamivir and oseltamivir, but is resistant to the adamantane antiviral medications, amantadine and rimantadine. Pregnant women who meet current case-definitions for confirmed, probable or suspected swine influenza A (H1N1) infection should receive empiric antiviral treatment.

11062655 tn?1414987783 htm Hepatotoxicity Despite widespread use, there is little evidence that oseltamivir when given orally causes liver injury, either in the form of serum enzyme elevations or clinically apparent liver disease. A proportion of patients with acute influenza A may have minor serum enzyme elevations during the acute illness, but these appear to be independent of therapy and are not exacerbated by osteltamivir.

1916673 tn?1420233270 I'm looking more into phosphorus and phosphate binders, which can be a very confusing subject for many owners. There are many different binders available and vets often seem to have their own particular preference. I hope soon to put some information into a more straightforward article, rather than the somewhat complex information available on the Internet.
Avatar m tn Causes of hyperphosphatemia (abnormally elevated phosphate levels) include excessive dietary intake of phosphate, overuse of laxatives or enemas that contain phosphate, kidney disease or impaired kidney function, hypoparathyroidism, hypocalcemia (calcium deficiency), magnesium deficiency (severe magnesium deficiency is one of the causes of hypoparathyroidism), too much vitamin D in the body, healing fractures, severe infections, acromegaly, rhabdomyolysis, tumour lysis syndrome, untreated diab
Avatar m tn Earlier this year, researchers reporting in the Archives of Internal Medicine said the risks of oral sodium phosphate solutions and some oral sodium phosphate tablets were rare but real, particularly for elderly patients. Dr. Hemant K. Roy, an associate professor in the department of medicine at Evanston-Northwestern Healthcare in Illinois, writing in an accompanying editorial in the journal, described the findings as "quite alarming.
Avatar n tn After a recently passed kidney stone tested as calcium phosphate my dr. suspected hyperparathyroidism. Here are the results of recent blood tests: Mar 9 PTH - high (69 ng/L; lab normal 13-54) Calcium - normal (2.35 mmol/L; lab normal 2.1-2.55) Phosphate - normal (0.95 mmol/L; lab normal 0.8-1.5) Mar 20 Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy - low (60.8 nmol/L; lab normals 80-200) Thyroid ultrasound - normal Apr 14 PTH - normal (35 ng/L; lab normal 13-54) Calcium - high (2.58 mmol/l; lab normal 2.1-2.
947976 tn?1245864691 I have normal calcium levels, very low phosphate levels ( Hypophosphatemia ) and high alkaline phosphate. The only medicine I take is Phosphate Sandoz but no matter how much i eat phosphate high food or take the medicine, my body doesn't recognize it, and no doctor understands where does the phosphate go. Now I am 19 and have both hip fixators , and have had around 10 spontaneous fractures.
Avatar n tn What causes high alkaline phosphate readings? I have had a liver scan and bone density test and both have been good. What else could cause this? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/228892'>Alkaline phosphate high on blood test</a>.

Avatar m tn s been on IV for 48 hours now, and although absolutely full of life and energy, his BUN is still 46 (UK) and his phosphate 5.19 (UK). All of his other levels have came down. Vet is continuing with IV for another 48 hours and said if there's no change I'll have to make a decision... I'm not an idiot, nor in denial, but I can't imagine Tommy being put to sleep because these levels are still high? He has so much energy.

Avatar m tn On my labs, however, I had low vitamin d-25 and low serum phosphate (2.0 mg/dl). My doctor gave me vitamin d supplements and then I started taking 2,000 IU per day. Recently, I had another blood test and my serum phosphate had dropped to 1.6 mg/dl with normal being 2.5 mg/dl - 5 mg/dl for the lab that did the test. Is this something I should be concerned about and pursue with the doctor or is this normal?
Avatar m tn 25mg once a day, So this time I thought while I do not have access to any hydros I would try to releave some of the wd symptoms by taking the codine phosphate, does any one have any idea if this could help me.
Avatar f tn I also noticed that although my AST and ALK Phosphate are within the normal range, they are definitely a bit higher now than in August & January. Could this mean something? I do have my blood tests for the last few years all the way back to 2007 and my ALT has always been in the range of 12-20 and my AST in the range of 13-15 and my ALK Phosphate in the range of 52-68. Here are the most recent results...
Avatar n tn A kidney stone I recently passed was found to be of the calcium phosphate variety, leading the doctor to perform a PTH test that came back high (69, lab range 13-54) but my blood calcium and phosphate were both normal (2.35 and 0.95 respectively); neither have ever been elevated in prior blood tests and my urine calcium is also normal. Would this still likely be a hyperparathyroid or could the elevated PTH have something to do with my PCOS? Thanks.
