Pregnancy should not be considered a contraindication to oseltamivir or zanamivir use. Pregnant women might be at higher risk for severe complications from swine influenza, and the benefits of treatment or chemoprophylaxis with zanamivir or oseltamivir likely outweigh the theoretical risks of antiviral use.
566175 tn?1278430472 Treatment and chemoprophylaxis The currently circulating swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is sensitive to the neuraminidase inhibitor antiviral medications zanamivir and oseltamivir, but is resistant to the adamantane antiviral medications, amantadine and rimantadine. Pregnant women who meet current case-definitions for confirmed, probable or suspected swine influenza A (H1N1) infection should receive empiric antiviral treatment.

11062655 tn?1414987783 htm Hepatotoxicity Despite widespread use, there is little evidence that oseltamivir when given orally causes liver injury, either in the form of serum enzyme elevations or clinically apparent liver disease. A proportion of patients with acute influenza A may have minor serum enzyme elevations during the acute illness, but these appear to be independent of therapy and are not exacerbated by osteltamivir.
Avatar m tn My husband was diagnosed with a condition called neurogenic cough. It has been described as a chronic cough where the nerve that provides sensation to the voicebox and is responsible for triggering the cough reflex has been injured, usually by a virus. When this happens, the nerve's level of sensitivity before it triggers the cough reflex becomes markedly reduced; in other words, it becomes hyper-sensitive.
Avatar m tn Hello! Can somebody tell me if there is a problem if someone had 1st dose of engerix B 1 ml (1 month ago) and now we can't find anymore to buy 2'nd dose IF it will take 2 pediatric dose (0.5ml each)? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Those are safe for him at 1/2 human adult dose. Simethicone (the active ingredient in gas-x) also comes in a pediatric form. If you get the pediatric form dose to effect. Hiccups are due to spasms of the diaphragm, however and getting rid of gas may not be effective, but it is worth a try.
Avatar n tn Working with a pediatric endocrinologist. Tries to avoid using steroids with the kiddos and we are using metformin to treat. Had difficult time getting up to full dose because of tummy irritation but going from the generic brand to the name brand which has a coating on it seemed to do the trick. First bone scan was 8 yrs and 7 months. Now 10 months later we have progressed to 11 yrs on the bone age scan. What are treatment options to arrest the bone age from progressing so quickly?

Avatar n tn My regular endo takes pediatric thyroid patients. Don't limit yourself to a pediatric endo - most of them are dealing with pediatric diabetes. Call and find a good thyroid specialist endo then talk to the nurse (a secret to getting around the receptionist) about your daughter's condition - that may get you in faster. Starting her on Synthroid isn't a bad idea now but she needs long-term followup with an endo.
Avatar m tn he has been on the max dose of digoxin for the last 8 or 9 months with little effect. his doctor has suggested doing a catheter ablation on him, given his wieght of over 15 kilos. the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time? This discussion is related to SVT medication and its consequences.

Avatar f tn Three to four years ago, my pediatric had prescribed me 300 mg Ranitidine for heart burn. A few months later, a urgent care physician had prescribed me the same medicine. In total, I've taken two bottles of Ranitidine (approx 2 months worth of tablets). I've been paranoid ever since I learned that Ranitidine had been recalled due to a link to cancer. Is a 2 month dose of Ranitidine something to worry about?

Avatar n tn 4) and TSH=0.783 (0.3-4.0), accordingly the pediatric endocrinologist of the hospital suggested reduction in terms of giving the dosage 5/7 days a week. Once more we desided to get another opinion. The new pediatric endocrinologist believed there is a high possibility of transient hypothyroidism (not that it matters) and suggested the continuation of dosage at 7/7 days with 25T4 tablets. The last blood test (same molecular lab) after a 2 week period showed the following values fT4= 1.99 (0.6-2.
Avatar n tn In other words, the on-line surveys can be useful starting points, but it is wise to use the information to launch a thorough evaluation by a pediatric mental health or behavioral health clinician.

Avatar m tn t have Interstitial Cystitis. He needs to see a Pediatric Urologist who can sort out the specific problem causing the burning. A urethral stricture or a congenital obstruction of the urethra can cause dysuria. A voiding cystourethrogram (X-ray of the urethr and bladder) would rule out a structural problem. See the Urologist first. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn Dr. Lupo, I posted this same question on the patient community thyroid forum, thinking it was for your forum here. If I also get patient feedback on the other forum, that will be great too! My question: Can "thyrotoxic myopathy" be induced by excessive dose of thyroid hormone replacement? I posted previously in regard to my having been over-replaced with Armour thyroid, my T3 level being up to more than double highest normal (high normal 450 - my result over 900).
