Avatar m tn hi im 16 years old and i recently had my period a week later i am bleeding again but its abnormally heavy which is not normal for me because my periods are usually very light and only last 3 days but Ive been bleeding now for four days and im not on my period im not exactly sure whats wrong but im very worried that there could be something very wrong. i am on the birth control ortho evra ( the patch ) and im pretty sure it has nothing to do with that. im just looking for answers!
364288 tn?1300144506 I use the patch, Ortho Evra. My doc tried to discourage me from it because of the risks, but since I have none of the risk factors (age, smoking) I went ahead. Besides, doesn't the pill have similar risks?? Anyway, I cannot remember to take the pill either, LoL, the patch is easy to remember because by day 7 it is falling off-- time to change!
Avatar f tn I have been on Ortho Evra for a year now. I have been diagnosed with PCOS, although, aside from being irregular I haven't ever had any other symptoms with it. I went on Ortho Evra because I was really anemic, and the irregularity was annoying me, so the patches fixed both. I loved it up until the past month or two when I started noticing that I'm becoming crazy. Slowly I've become really paranoid and been thinking really morbid things.
Avatar f tn So, I started taking Ortho Evra back in 2002 to regulate my cycles, I took it for a couple of years and it worked just fine. I wasn't sexually active so I wasn't needing it to prevent pregnancy. I stopped taking it in 2006. My cycles had been pretty irregular, they were all over the calendar, but this last 10 months, they had been particularly bad, every 20-22 days.
Avatar f tn When I was 18 I finally got on birth control to regulate it. I started on Ortho Tri Cyclin and then switched to Ortho Evra. I was on Ortho Evra for about 5 years and had no difficulties with it and my period became normal. I stopped taking all birth control in August of 2008. I was expecting to have an irregular period again, but it is much worse. On average I've been getting my "period" about every two months, but I bleed much more than that.
Avatar n tn I'm on the ortho evra patch and I always put it in the same spot. I got a rash in that spot so I moved my patch and that week with the patch on I started my period as I would when not wearing it. I was on it that full time then I took my patch off for my actual period week and was still bleeding. So a total of two weeks on my period. Is this normal when moving the patch to a different part of the body?
Avatar f tn Breakthrough bleeding also depended on other factors like dose, potency, and activity of the particular progestin in the combined OC as well as the ratio of the estrogen and progestin in the formulation and other factors like missed pills and smoking. So this bleeding that you are having is breakthrough bleeding, but it is important to find out whether it is due to switching the contraceptive pills or due to pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I just finished my first three weeks of Ortho Evra. I've now had the patch off for 6 days and have not started my period. Is this normal? I had a pap smear and internal exam done 4 days ago...would my doctor have been able to tell if I were pregnant?
Avatar f tn I am on the ortho evra patch. I mistook my 3rd week as my patch free week. I had sex before the mistake. But no it's been over a week and still no period. Am I pregnant?
Avatar f tn Around April 15, he came home for a mid-tour leave. I started using the Ortho-Evra patch a week before (which, I was told in June when I got the Implanon/Explanon implanted into my arm by a gynecologist, that I was horribly allergic to) I got a vaginal infection, and I thought it was an UTI, so I self medicated myself with antibiotics I had left over from a previous UTI, a week later I removed my patch. Went to the doctor in May when my upper back, near my rib-cage, started aching.
Avatar f tn On the contrary I can tell you one I wouldn't recommend!! Ortho-Evra. Horrible. I was only on it for four months because I just couldn't take it, I was severely moody, depressed, low sex drive, and when I went off it, I swear if someone even looked at me funny I was in tears. I believe because it is only a weekly thing there were more hormones than say the Ortho-TriCyclen Lo would have. IMO, I've always felt the lowest dose is probably the best.
Avatar n tn if your on the pill for two weeks than stop, how much will that mess up your hormones? if you have breakthrough bleeding or withdrawl bleeding when would you become fertile again?
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm on my second month of ortho evra patches and I think I may be pregnant. I have swollen breast and they're tender, I have veins on my breast, my lower back hurts, I've gotten sick every night for the past two weeks. My period was late last month and it was super light. I'm took a dollar store test and it said neg. I'm thinking maybe my "period" wasn't a period.
Avatar f tn I am experiencing breakthrough bleeding on ortho tri cyclen, between days 11 and 14 in my BC pack. The doctor syas it happens and it is only annoying but I really would like to not have to endure three or four days of breakthrough bleeding or spotting every month. It is messy and not very pleasant during inter course. What other pill combination would lessen this? I am open to a type and dose that will stop this.
Avatar n tn I am 19 years old and I am using Ortho Evra patch for contraception and I have been for five months. I have never been pregnant before, but I am beginning to think I have some symptoms even though I have NOT missed or had any late/irregular periods. -I've been feeling a pulse in my stomach especially when I lay down and press on the mid part of my stomach just above the belly button.
Avatar n tn Yes, any birth control you start can cause your period to be delayed. Or you could get spotting or breakthrough bleeding in the middle of a pack. All of that is normal.
Avatar f tn I am currently on the implanon but will be switching to the ortho evra patch . What are some thoughts or opinions on this birth control ? Is there anything bad you experienced or maybe some good effects to it ? ADVICE ?
Avatar f tn My suggestion is to google Evra contraceptive patch and see what comes up, specifically possible side effects of Evra contraceptive patch. Based on what you find, I would probably recommend making an appointment with your family doctor. Maybe even changing your method of birth control., just a thought. Of course, your family doctor who knows your medical history is the best person to discuss this issue with. Good luck getting some answers.
Avatar f tn Hello, All your symptoms are the side effects of the birth control ortho evra patch. The Ortho Evra birth control patch releases a high amount of estrogen into the bloodstream—60% more than from birth control pills—which is known to increase the risk for blood clots. These blood clots occlude the blood vessels as thrombi and if they get dislodged and occlude the blood vessels at some other site, they are called emboli.

Avatar f tn I took ortho evra for about 4 years and had irregular periods for about a year after i stopped. We have now been ttc for 2 years and are finally seeing a RE next week. My dr gave me progestin pills to help regulate my periods and when that didnt work i took clomid. that did regulate them. I blame my infertility on the patch even though my dr swears it is not to blame. Good luck! Happy to answer any other questions. Maybe my experience can help.

Avatar n tn I had my lap surgery in August 09, and have been on continuous BC since October 09 and my period (or breakthrough bleeding) hasn't stopped since I switched over - now going on 7 months! Previously I was taking Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo and since October I've tried Ortho Cyclen, Necon 1/35 (Ortho-Novum), Apri (Desogen), and now Zovia (Demulen). Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone who has tried taking continuous BC to stop their period have any insights on how long it took?
Avatar f tn ) last month and all was well up until the last week when I started spotting. Well because of my insurance I had to switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen this month so i decided to skip the brown placebo pills so i could "skip" my period, but on exactly Day 1 of Ortho Tri Cyclen it made me start my period Full on! I am on Day 3 and still have my period...... ugh!!!
