Avatar n tn Hi I have a coronary calcium score of 577 and my heart arteries are serverly calcified. Are open heart operations (bypasses) with good prognosis with type 1 diabetics? I have been on insulin for 32 years since I was 17.
Avatar f tn Since then I have had numerous surgeries to correct different problems with my heart. This coming May I need another open heart surgery. I am extremely scared. I know just about what my surgeon and parents have told me about the whole process starting from the day before to a couple months after. If anybody has gone through this surgery around this age, could you please let me know? Maybe what the whole process was like? How you felt pre-surgery? Post-surgery? How much pain?
Avatar n tn MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE A LEAKING HEART VALVE. EVEN VERY YOUNG PEOPLE. IT IS OFTEN CALLED A HEART MURMUR. SOMETIMES PEOPLE MAY NEED A NEW VALVE REPLACED WITH SURGERY, AND EVEN IF YOUR MOM'S VALVE WAS LEAKING THAT BADLY, THESE OPERATIONS ARE DONE OFTEN AND ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation this past week. I have had the TEE, and a CT scheduled this week along with a meeting with heart surgeon. Our local surgeons only repair mitral valves with open chest technique. I am interested in the minimally invasive option since I have no other health issues. Is there any reason I should consider the open chest surgery? Seems like the obvious best choice is minimally invasive. Thanks.

881091 tn?1242724466 after hearing from numerous doctors, it appears to be safe, and the large majority of operations go well. it is not open heart surgery, like a bypass, so the chances of living, are alot higher than that of open heart of course. ive never met anyone who has suffered due to an angioplasty or stents. my dad had them and they seem really successful. 4 years down the track and his stents are serving him really well. keeping him alive.
Avatar f tn With the enlarged heart and mitral valve regurgitation--I would think that you should be evaluated for a repair of the valve. This can be done robotically, and without open heart surgery in many larger hospital centers. You want to go to a hospital that has surgeons specializing in that type of surgery and where they have done thousands of operations. You could start with your own current cardiologist to get recommendations for a referral elsewhere.
2022887 tn?1328723371 My two brothers both had two Catheter Ablations one they killed his sinus node the other they infected his Aortic Valve, he had to have open heart to replace the valve. After those two failures I was not going to have a Catheter Ablation. A friend told me to look at www.ohioafib.com I did and Dr. Sirak ended my Arrhythmia problems in three and one half hours! You may want to look at his video!
Avatar m tn My father is 60 years old and had a heart attack last week. When diagnosed he had 80% blockage in one artery and a minor block in other artery. His Coloestrol, sugar and BP is perfect. Doc though is suggesting a bypass, can anybody suggest that is it the last remedy or we can have some scope through medicines?
Avatar m tn what if they find a bad blockage, does this mean open heart surgery or is it a simple fix. Im just too young to be going through this. Is anyone else out there in this situation and what has been your outcome? thank you for anyresponces.
Avatar n tn I have moderate to severe mitral valve regurgatation and am seeing a cardiac surgeon today. I'm really scared of surgery. has any one had this done? any advice about finding a surgeon? I have cardiomyopathy with EF of 36%. I also have a implanted defibilator. I have been having episodes of severe chest pain. I was told it is not cardiac related. But it is so bad at times I can not lay flat, or even recline slightly I have to sit straight up.
Avatar f tn What we did was we got two balloons one that said boy and the other said girl and we recorded a video and popped the one it wasnt supposed to be held the little girl one in front of us and kissed. We also took pictures of him holding me from behind making a heart on my stomach than we painted the inside of his hands pink and pressed the hands on the shirt and we opened his hands and there was a pink heart and pink on his hands to reveal it.
595144 tn?1219229276 I had a heart attack two months ago with two stents being necessary. At the time it was found that a heart mumur indicated minor regurgitation due to a biscuspid valve. Further tests showed a dilated ascending aorta measuring 49mm. On seeing a heart surgeon today he suggested just watching the dilation and checking each 6 months. He seemed inclined not to use a metal valve and wanted to delay the inevitable operation.
Avatar n tn My nine year old grandson has started pulling his mic key feeding tube out, he was having 6 x 200mls enrich plus, now he is down to two. He has had 5 open heart operations, at two weeks old he had no oxygen for 9 minutes after a pump malfunctioned after first open heart surgery. Avatar n tn She was diagnosed at 20 months with coarctation of the aorta, pda and a bicuspid valve. She had her open-heart surgery in 2007 at 23 months. It was successful and she's been doing good since. Her last follow up was in October 2008. She still has pulmonary hypertension, high blood pressure in her lungs, but not extremely high.
Avatar n tn Repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm may be performed surgically through an open incision or in a minimally-invasive procedure called endovascular aneurysm repair. A failure with the surgery may require another sugery procedure if the operation fails... "The graft is sutured to the aorta connecting one end of the aorta at the site of the aneurysm to the other end of the aorta. Open repair remains the standard procedure for an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
