You don't know how lucky you are your doctor took you off of methadone it's a terrible drug, I'm with Pauly611, I didn't know about the nazi thing but that makes me hate the methadone even more...I also know several people that have died taking methadone. The opana er is a great pain medication. It's very smooth and it won't make you feel like a zombie, that's what it made me feel like.

I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.

I was switched to 100mg Morphine 2x a day only after 2-3 months is not doing anything after 4 hours for now HE switched me to Opana er 40mg 2x a day the morphine worked while i was at work taking it 1 hour before going to work(Chef) but as soon as my 6 hour shift was ending The pain has become unbearable,now with the opana er I am feeling bad pain during work,I really am not sure what I am Asking,basically has anyone who has severe chronic pain who has to work like me ,I just need some wisdom t

I have been off of the Opana ER for aprox a week and a half now and I am taking the percocet and I can tell you that the W/D is getting better but I still feel awful. The Opana also caused me to have hormonal problems and I have severe breast pain. I read that if you have adrenal problems that the Opana can cause problems. I can not find a decent G.P where I live and when they know that you are in P.M. they treay you like a bad person.

when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?

Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.

30 mg twice a day and has been a wonder drug for my chronic pain. After being prescribed Opana ER 2 months ago, I researched it more and Hootie is right. The bioavailability of oxymorphone is lower than that of Morphine...10% is correct. I still am prescribed Percocet for breakthrough pain and most days I only need one dose instead of two but there are days that two doses are definitely needed. Oxycodone is one of the active ingredients in Percocet alongside acetaminophen.

My doctor told me that my last drug screening came up positive for Opana ER. I have never taken Opana. How in the world could this have happened? I know many people won't believe me, but it's the truth. I'm just trying to figure out how this could happen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure if you have tried Opana (oxymorphone) yet but based on pharmacology, it is a little stronger than Dilaudid (hydromorphone) mg to mg. I am on 30 mg of Opana ER twice a day. They do have Opana in immediate release form. Opana has a long half life, even in immediate release form, such that 6 hour dosing works extremely well for most patients versus the 4 hour dosing of oxycodone. Oxymorphone is the metabolite of oxycodone...

the only time i was given any pain pills was after surgery. i just went to a dr. and he prescribed me opana er 10mg. Is this unusual?

t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.

If the new oxycontin OP worked very well on your pain, I highly recommend talking to your doctor about Opana ER. It is oxymorphone and it is strongest pain medication available in pill form based on pharmacology. The oxycodone in Oxycontin is metabolized by the liver into oxymorphone. Therefore, the Opana ER would be a drug that is very comparable to the Oxycontin, only twice as strong.

I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Is it as easy as waiting 12 hrs. after my last Opana ER and then apply the patch (it's a 3 day patch) then take another ER once the 3 days has expired?

I am now on 20mg twice a day and I still have to take Percocet for breakthrough pain. I am not really sure of the benefit of the Opana at this dose at my current pain level but I am going along with my nurse practitioners idea. I have not had headaches with it but it sure gives me a lot of heartburn. I hope that your doctor can find a combination that works for you. You are taking Opana ER every 4-6 hours? Opana ER is meant to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4-6 hours. In fact, most insurance companies will not pay for extended release medications to be taken more than 2 times per day. Three years ago I was diagnosed with a severe case of osteoarthritis of the spine and I'm told there is NO cure for this medical condition. The doctors have claimed all they can do is treat me for the pain and as of today's date, I have yet to be pain free with this problem. my dr just put me on opana ER 10mg 2x day and 2 lortab day for breakthru...before that was prescribed and taking 4 norco 10/325 daily and was not controlling the pain...i've been in this constant flar-up phase few weeks... i've only been on opana er for 2 days so i know it takes around 5 days to kick in and dr says this mg is a starting point for me and will move up some accordingly...i'm glad and surprised that my pain has subsided some...

I find the hard thing about Opana ER is that it cannot be cut, so the drop is really significant. Last month, my pain management NP told me to drop from 10 mg Opana ER mg three times a day to 5 mg Opana ER three times a day. In both cases I have three 5 mg Opana IRs to take with the ER. I have found the ER really hard to decrease anymore on (I have decreased from 40 mg Opana ER three times a day plus the three 5 mg Opana IR).
