Common Questions and Answers about Opana er abuse

opana

Ive been on Opana Er & Ir for 2 years now and couldnt be more happy with it. Opana doesnt make me sleepy, groggy, high, or anything like that, instead it takes away my pain.
I have been on Norco's for the last year. My new pain management doctor suggested Opana ER. He told me that in the 7 years of him prescribing the medication he has not had a single patient become addicted to the medicine like patients do on Norco's and other pain meds. The norcos have started to just not work since my tolerance has built up to them. I am taking one Opana in the morning and one at night, with my norcos as a back up pain reliever.
HI THERE, IM A RECOVERING ADDICT FROM LOUISVILLE KY, AND I JUST WANTED TO TELL ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS ADDICTED TO OPANA ER OR IR, DO NOT QUIT TAKING THE MEDICINE ABRUPTLY WITHOUT BEING IN A TREATMENT FACILITY. ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE WANTING TO BEAT THEIR ADDICTION HAVE BEEN TRYING TO QUIT BY GOING TO SUBOXONE DR.S OR SUBOXINE TREATMENT FACILITIES AND ARE BEING TOLD THAT IF YOU TAKE A VERY HIGH AMOUNT OF A STRONG OPIATE THAT SUBOXONE WONT HELP. THIS IS VERY FALSE INFORMATION!!!
I have seen posts here about amounts of various pills that seem WAY higher than what I am on, but because the Opana is ER, I begin to feel the onset of WD's about 4 hours after I dose. Is this normal for this drug? Does the ER aspect effect the severity & duration of the WD's? I'm also experiencing a very moucousy cough. Thinking it might be related to snorting the Opana? I will be out of pills next Thursday and plan on going CT.
I have been taking Opana 15 mg ER twice a day. I have, possibly, a two-week supply of pills. I quit Methadone (cold turkey) six years ago and it was horrible. Today, I am reducing my intake to one tablet per day. Can anyone suggest a taper program that will not leave me as sick and miserable as my quitting Methadone back in 2008? Thanks.
For what little it's worth, I've been on Opana 40 mg. twice a day (ER-extended release) for about four months now. I feel that it's been the most effective of the ER drugs I've been prescribed, with only nominal side effects.. Cheers!
Would a pain management doctor really take her to another level of meds after she was in the hospital for serious abuse? She is a serious drug seeker. I have never seen her in what I would call very bad pain. I just don't believe a word and can't prove I am being lied too. HELP! You can say this is not my problem, but we are friends. Walk dogs together and other things. I was married to a bi-polar and her behavior is so like his. Should I call her out on all her lies?
So my husband has been on a progressive pain pill diet for about 6 + years for his back (degenerative disc disease with nerve damage) He has been on Norco 10-325 for at least one year taking 4-6 a day occasionally more but usually sticking to 4. His doctor switched him to Opana ER 10MG and gave him Opana IR 5MG incase of break through pain.
HI Sister, I am tapering on Opana ER. I know how hard it is. I am praying for you. I am using my 6th sense to feel the presence of God, as much as I can because the Bible says that He is right here with those that believe. This may be one of the best things we can do for our addictions, especially as they are mood altering. Do you know if you can taper, can you control the amount you take? Get to a place of making another -- a different commitment -- to taper?
i am on 30 mg opana er and 5 mg opana. they are good, but they have been causing severe drowsiness so much that i have been nodding off at work, and have been asked to take a medical leave of absence. Now I dont know what to do they don't want me to come back till i'm drug free, but i have chronic back pain.. i cannot work w/out pain med..its too much pain to handle...right now im seeing about getting a spinal cord stimulator put in..
MY PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND FOR ABUSE AND STARTED WORKING FOR A FIRE AND WATER LOSS COMPANY TAKING CARE OF 4 KIDS ON MY OWN WITH NO HELP AND NO INSURANCE WHEN I INJURED MY BACK AT WORK I TRIED TO TOUGH IT OUT UNTIL IT GOT SO BAD I WANTED TO STAY IN BED I WENT TO THE ER ROOM THEY DID TEST SAID I TORE THE DISC RIGHT ABOVE THE SPINAL CORD ENTRY AND IT WAS LAYING ON THE NERVES COMING IN AND OUT OF SAID OPENING WELL LONG STORY SHORT FROM 2005 TO 2009 I FOUND OUT NOT ONLY DID I HAVE
Abd sure, he may have some more severe pain at times, but NOTHING that should require Opana! Opana is an EXTREMELY strong opiod. It's Rx'd for terminal cancer patients and people with untreatable severe pain conditions. You deserve SO much better!
Also what is the difference between Opana ER and oxymorphone? I think it is oxymorphone is not extended release but the Opana is. I have had my spine reconstructed 6 times and suffer more than words can say. I do not abuse my drugs but the Oxycotin don't seem to work as well since they changed to the OP and they make me nauseated a lot. And I DO take them as prescribed. I did not crush/chew/snort/smoke or inject the other oxycotin. Just swallowed it as prescribed.
Assess each patient’s risk for opioid abuse or addiction prior to prescribing OPANA® ER. The risk for opioid abuse is increased in patients with a personal or family history of substance abuse (including drug or alcohol abuse or addiction) or mental illness (e.g., major depressive disorder). Routinely monitor all patients receiving OPANA® ER for signs of misuse, abuse, and addiction during treatment. http://www.opana.
I used to take 30 mg of Opana ER twice a day but I switched to the Fentanyl patch last month. 30 mg of Opana ER is roughly 60 mg of oxycodone or 90 mg of morphine. 10 mg of Opana ER is roughly 20 mg of oxycodone or 30 mg of morphine. You are actually getting 5 mg less of oxycodone through the switch from percocet to Opana ER. However, since Opana ER is an entirely different opioid formulation.
OPANA, like OPANA ER, contains oxymorphone, an opioid agonist and Schedule II controlled substance with an abuse liability similar to morphine and can be abused in a manner similar to other opioid agonists, legal or illicit. Its a schedule 2 drug and it is not twice as strong as oxycotin........Opana comes in 5-10-20 and 40 mgs......... May i ask why your taking this med?
I AM PERSCRIBED OPANA 15MG ER 2 TIMES A DAY AND UP TO 4 10 MG OXYCODONE A DAY AND 6 MGS OF XANAX A DAY. NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG I DON'T TAKE ALL THIS I WAS TAKING 1- 15MG OPANA A DAY AND 2- 10 MG OXYCODNE PER DAY AND 2 1/2 MGS OF XANAX A DAY.

I take 12-15 lortab 10 a day,my doctor in an effort to help me get off, gave me opana er but insurance wouldn't cover,it cost too much to pay out of pocket.looked up some ER meds my insur.would cover.here they are hydromorph, oramorph, and oxycodone er. I know I am trading one substance for another but have tried weaning myself off the lortabs and screw up everytime. His,my doc's idea was for me to take the opana er twice a day for a month then once a day.I have legit.
Hi all! Today is my one year anniversary from being clean of hydrocodone, dilaudid & opana er. I can't believe it's been a year! This forum was instrumental in me quitting and I wanted to pop in and say hello, give myself a pat on the back and share my story. When I was on the fence about when I was going to make the jump, stories about how it went for people who DID quit were very interesting to me.
the reason your doc might not prescribe oxycontin might be because of the widespread abuse of oxycontin. people who abuse oxycodone prefer oxycontin because it does not have the anti-inflammitory in it(so they can take more w/o ruining the stomach). opana is more expensive as just as abused(however it isn't as popular to prescribe, there is less of it around so it doesn't get noticed the way oxycontin does).
Just so YOU know being a "junkie" I never sought out dilaudid to replace my heroin! I think that is a gross generalization of ppl who's DOC may have been heroin ! ADDICTION IS ADDICTION and I kind of take offense to just calling heroin users "junkies" I prefer to refer to myself as an addict in recovery w/ 98 days clean!! when that term is used I believe is misleads ppl to remember WE ARE 1 in the same fighting addiction!
I been on 4 x d 80mg ocycotin my pm dr has changed me to 4 x d 40 mg opana er they just do not seem to be working. Mind u I hAv been on this since 2004 on the same dose am I not immune to that dose by now? Can u help? I just can not take the pain anymmore .I have excellent insurance benefits bcbs of (n.
I am a stay-at-home mom (with 3 degrees), educated as a nurse and a social worker. I have become consumed with my taper from Opana ER. Now I just have a couple weeks more to taper. If I haven't successfully completed this by then, I am going for a medical detox. After about 4 months of tapering my husband is (rightfully) tired of hearing about my taper. We decided this option would work for me. It is frustrating because I am on 1/4th of what I was on.
We are here to share our hope with you. Personally, I have been tapering off of Opana ER, a very strong opiate. I am trying to figure out my next steps now!. Lots of us are happy to share our experiences with tapering, going cold turkey and methadone use if you want to repose your question. I don't know how we can respond to your post, but I care a lot.
However, the pain is still so bad I am having trouble coping this morning. (I was on 40mg Opana ER 3 times a day. Now I am on 25mg Opana ER 3 times a day.) It would help to know I am not alone in this! Please post if you are going through a taper or detox! or if you have gone through this--with Opana or with any medicine. Were you in a situation like mine? Did you have withdrawal so bad you had to taper? Or, did you HAVE to go through a hellish detox?
My situation is I just finished 10 days of inpatient treatment for Opana ER. That went fine. I tapered for 4 months before inpatient tx, and the anxiety got so bad that I couldn't taper any more. I left the hospital on subs. I feel like I am addicted to subs now. And I have just gotten off the phone with a doctor at the treatment center asking whether I should come back to get off the subs. He said he wants me to try tapering first. So I am processing this info. now.
I do trust my doctor and he is a very reputable physician that has been featured on the local news in our state but despite this, he did not apply a cross tolerance at all when he switched me from morphine ER to opana ER (you may remember responding to my post on this subject awhile back). In fact, it was even more medicine than I was already taking in both morphine ER and breakthrough pain medicine in the two 30 mg opana ER pills I take per day.
was taking to many of my percs because my long acting med Opana Er wasn't working. I asked if he would change the med or the dosage & he wouldn't do anything & I was miserable instead of trying to help me he sent me to the counselor who agreed I was being under treated based on my HX. But nothing changed.I started to many & would run out early & get sick every month..
I got off clonazapam and soma about 7 months ago. These were the mood-altering drugs. Opana ER isn't mood altering. But, I have become pretty frightened of how much I am on, and how vulnerable it makes me. The question is always how will I handle my pain issue after getting off Opana ER. I don't know yet. Do you have a pain issue? And, have you found any other alternative solutions? I am trying Lyyrica and Savella. I don't see that anything really helps.
