Ondansetron safe for pregnant women

Common Questions and Answers about Ondansetron safe for pregnant women

zofran

Avatar f tn Zofran/Ondansetron is also used in pregnancy. I felt safe using this during pregnancy as I have known more women who have used it without any problems. it's a newer drug and works very well without the sedating side effects that promethazine can have. Here is the FDA information too. Ondansetron has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal studies failed to reveal evidence of fetal damage. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Both she and the journals said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!). I am now 34 weeks and my little girl is very healthy and while I've lost a lot of weight in this pregnancy and still under my pre-pregnancy weight (though it is now going on slowly) she is measuring large for GA, so very like my first. HG is NOTHING like morming sickness.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is the generic for Zofran. Why would you refuse it? It's safe to take or your Dr wouldn't prescribe it to you. There's other meds out there if you don't want to take it. My Dr gave me Diclegis. It helped take the edge off the nausea.
Avatar f tn Ondanestron is perfectly safe for pregnancy. It works amazingly and gets rid of morning sickness within about 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is the generic version of Zofran and I asked my consultant the same question and she said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!). I am now 33+4 and my little girl is very healthy and while I've lost a lot of weight in this prehnancy she is measuring large for GA, so very like my first.
Avatar f tn No abnormalities were noted in the offspring of these two women. Ondansetron is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar f tn I asked my consultant the same question and she said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!). I am now 34+5 and my little girl is very healthy and while I've lost a lot of weight in this prehnancy she is measuring large for GA, so very like my first. I know that I would have had major issues without issue at as I couldn't keep water or food down, not even my own spit.
Avatar f tn "Doctors prescribe Zofran (ondansetron) to pregnant women as a treatment for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Unfortunately, studies link the medication to birth defects, and families are taking drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline to court, saying it marketed the drug to pregnant women without FDA approval.
14868695 tn?1443396776 Has anyone taken this for nausea? Its generic for zofran which has some medical lawsuits due to it causing clef pallet and heart defects in babies. I was given one at the hospital yesterday after my ob sent me bc of a pain in my side and really bad vomiting. And now I have a prescription for it. The side effects list is soo long. It says to talk to your doctor to see if the benefits out weigh the risks. Now I don't even want to take it. :( I'm not sure what to do.
Avatar f tn Nope, my obgyn prescribed them to me. They are really like tums, basically. But prego safe for normal pregnancies.
Avatar f tn I have terrible morning sickness and I was given a prescription for ondansetron 4mg which is the generic version of zofran. I'm scared to take it because of the possible side effects and the warnings I've seen on TV. I don't want to take any risks when it comes to my baby. Any thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn I know exactly how you feel, I was like that the first trimester and half of the second one, went twice to the er for fluids. The thing that has helped me with nausea was Zofran (ondansetron) you can take as many as 4 pills a day and it's safe for the baby. You do need prescription for it though. It will get better after 13 weeks, just hang in there, think about the baby and try to hidrate yourself, gatorade is good, try the lemon one. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I almost feel guilty for complaining but I need some sort of relief if possible. Did anything work for any of you? What about that constant bitter taste all the time? Please share your remedies/stories with me. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Ive been prescribed metoclopramide hydrochloride to take for my nausea. Im 17 years old on 9 weeks 3 days pregnant. Obviously my first and wanting to know if anyone had any problems taking this medication?? My mum and I are abit iffy as my cousin was born with a hole in her heart from my aunty taking a nausea medication (many many years ago though). What are your thoughts on medication? I am sick 24/7 and throw up almost everything I eat.
585414 tn?1288941302 It is also in clinical study for tardive dyskinesia. Since it is FDA approved for other purposes I was allowed to try it (with mixed results) but it is part of a new class of antipsychotics in development, the 5-HT3 receptor antagonists that are being researched as adjuncts (in addition to standard antipsychotics) treatments for schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn Zofran is the most recommended medicine for nausea while your pregnant .

8537342 tn?1403341983 I wouldn't have put up with that Crap to begin with. Pregnant it not a real man doesn't hurt a woman emotionally mentally verbally or physically. If he's done it to you what would stop him from doing it to the baby? I wouldn't stick around. To find out. He's abusive. Plain and simple. He's not gonna change.
Avatar f tn It depends somewhat on what is causing your nausea and how severe it is. The promethazine Dee mentions is effective but can also be quite sedating for some people. I couldn't stay awake if my life depended on it when I took that drug. Ginger is very safe and can be very helpful for mild nausea, but didn't even touch my severe nausea. The miracle drug for me was ondansetron, commonly given to chemotherapy patients.
