My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with Strep on Saturday and given Omnicef which gave her diarrhea. She went back to doctor then on Tuesday to receive a dose of LAbicillin which is supposed to cure her in 12 hours. 48 hours ago and we are still not better. SHe has white spots the size of an eraser on each side of her throat and her throat is almost swollen closed. I took her back today and they gave her clindomycein and prednisone which she had last year for mono.
My son has had strep throat 6 times this year.He has had it 4 times since July 9th.He was put on 10 days of antibiotics and then he went back for another test.It was positive. He then was on another 10 days of omnicef as they said that maybe it wasnt enough for him so in total he had 20 days of omnicef. He then went back again after 10 days and tested positive again. He was then given clindamyacin for another 10 days and came back after that and tested positive again.
There is typically no diagnositic tests for SJS - diagnosis is typically made by looking at the characteristic lesions. If there is still confusion, a biopsy can be made. As for the bumps in your throat - there are several possibilities. Obvious tests that should be done are a Strep test and monospot test (for mononucleosis). There are a variety of viruses that present with bumps in the throat. Coxsackieviruses and echoviruses come to mind.
My 8 year old daughter has been fighting strep throat for 3 years. I can honestly tell you that it hasn't gotten any better. They took her tonsiles out when she was in Kindergarten and is now in 3rd greade. She was diagnosed with strep 5 times from Nov to Feb last year. Again she has been diagnosed with strep except for one thing has changed. She now has Scarlet fever. She is back on antibiotics and bed rest. She is so used to being sick now she ust deals with it and goes on.
I developed a rash that looks like small red blisters on my hands and elbows after taking Omnicef for Strep throat. Dr took me off Omnicef three days ago and put me on Zithromax instead. Still have the rash after three days off the Omnicef. It is painful and dose not seem any better. How long before rash calms down --or do I run back to my Dr?
He tested negative for strep throat but his throat was red and swollen as well as his lymph nodes (Left larger than right). He is allergic to Amoxicillin, Augmentin, and Cephloxin (unsure of spelling). They are treating him with Omnicef 3 ml bid x 10 days. He took two doses yesterday and one this morning, with hardly any relief so far. How long does it normally take to start working? and......
In the beginning of September, shortly after moving into a new apartment, I was very sick with what appeared to be strep, although a culture came back negative. I had fever, sore throat, white coating in my throat, sinus pressure, and headache. My doctor put me on amoxicillin which slowly helped. A few days after I finished the ten day treatment, my post-nasal drip and sore throat came back. It lasted 2-3 days, then went away. A few days later, it was back, and worse.
I went to the doctor again, who said it looked like I had a throat abcess. He gave me omnicef and medrol pack. The sore throat and post-nasal drip got better after those meds, and again, a few days after I finished them, it was back. It progressively got worse, and my ears began to ache as well. I went to a new doctor, who told me that this was likely allergies (related to the new neighborhood or new apartment) and prescribed me flonase.
Toddlers tend to put their hands in their mouths alot ( and my son ***** his thumb when he is sleepy).I wash his hands often but he still gets these throat infections. Except for a period when he went about 4 months without any problem, he gets the infections about every three to four weeks or so. On occasion, if his throat is only a little red, he will get over it on his own. But more often that not, his throat is very infected and ulcers develop so that he needs an antibiotic.
That was the day we went to the Dr. and she was diagnosed with Strep Throat (She normally gets strep at least 3 times/winter).She was given omnicef for an antibiotic (she is allergic to Zithromax) About a week and a half later she was diagnosed with Pnemonia, and given anther omnicef perscription. One week later the pnemonia was getting worse, and she was hopsitalized for 2 days with IV antibiotics. We left with an additional 5 days of omnicef.
I was given antibiotics and told I had strep throat or bronchitis/tonsillitis. The dr gave me zithromax and my fever broke shortly after (possibly a coincidence) yet I still felt and appeared sick so I was given augmentin and an inhaler for my shortness of breath, both of which did nothing for me at all. I then had blood work done which came back irregular. Esr= 125, high neutrophils, eosoniphils, platelets, and a slightly elevated WBC.
I'll try to keep this short. I've had an irritated throat for the past 12 weeks. Started out as just a couple of enlarged veins at the back of my throat, then progressed to redness, and a "lump" in my throat feeling. It's hasn't really very sore, just a big annoyance. It has given me some ear discomfort, but not any swelling. Had strep throat tests 3 times during the first 4 weeks, and all came back neg. Was prescribed Amoxicillin first, then Avelox, then Omnicef with steriods.
I saw a RN who only looked at my throat and took a rapid strep test. She gave me a prescription for pennicillan. Well, I took them all and thought I was better only to have it all back again! So, I am suffering with the same problem. I know that doesn't help but hey at least you know someone else out there is having the same problems.
Never having dealt with strep I assumed the smell was from the bacteria of strep. The Amoxicillan they gave her did not work so we went back for Omnicef and after 2 doses of meds the smell was gone. Two weeks after meds the smell came back... back to the Dr. no strep... no answers.... Ive tried everything from no juice to flossing with no luck. Is this an indication of a bigger problem?
I have had a sore throat and a slight feverfor two weeks. I was treated with omnicef and after the fever returned. My throat had blisters but was not very sore. A strep test showed negative and i was teated for sinus infection and tonsillitis. This has happened to me twice in the past three months. Why are the antibotics not working? Is this a more serious problem, if so, then what should I do?
On Tuesday, 1/12/10, my daugher was sent home from school with a temperature and an irritated throat. The fever was running between 102-103. On Wednesday her temperature started elevating reaching near 105. The fever would come down with Motrin and Tylenol but as soon as it would wear off, the fever would return. I took her to her pediatrician that same day where they did a strep test which came back negative, prescribed omnicef and sent us home.

i saw a doctor and was diagnosed with sinusitis/ bronchitis, with a negative strep culture from the oropharynx. was placed on omnicef. I returned to the doctor with worsening of the arthralgia and fatigue. I have a slightly elevated ESR and CRP. My ANA is still pending. What am i possibly looking at?
My sodium level was low and my white blood count and granulocytes were very high and my lymphocytes were low. The Dr. put me on Omnicef for 10 days. I went back to the doctor a few days ago, and everything else turned out normal except now I had high Calcium and High Total Blood Protein. My Total Protein was 10.6. I am worried about the possibility of a Parathyroid Tumor with Cancer or something serious.
This week my son and I came down with strep throat. Pennicillin didnt work on my son so we are both now on omnicef. I know strep throat is small and will go away but I felt awful. fever for 2 days and my neck was stiff and I had this thunder clapping headache everytime I would get up from being seated and then when I would be standing and bend over to pick something up, i would get the head ache again by the time my head got around my waist.

The high fevers, extreme fatigue and lethargy, swollen lymph nodes quick onset and length of recovery were very scary for us. Fortunately for us, our area had a HORRIBLE outbreak of swine flu with half of the student body sick from both the elementary and middle schools so it was easy for the docs to diagnose. The symptoms sound so familiar but there are so many viruses and mutations that it's sooo frustrating to pinpoint which one. Good luck to you and your daughter.
73 on a worthless antibiotic, and just spent another $30 on the copay for this visit. Then I ended up paying $34 for Omnicef, an antibiotic cream for the impetigo, and a steroid cream for the HFM rash. He can't go back to daycare until Wednesday. Get home and Trevor is still battling the fever every three hours with the NSAIDs. He's still needing them every three hours today, so he's out of school a second day.
He is on zoloft for anxiety, abilify for the moods and attention and tics. Omnicef for the strep reaction. How do I know if the meds are working if he is still having these bad flair ups?.He is so sensitive and cries so easily. I notice him overreacting to things. He is in OT for the fine, gross, and visual motor delays and sensory issues, I feel now he is being treated in pieces.
Sore throat again. Another small scab appeared on my back and neck. One painful and one not. Scabs lasted about 10 days. Dec. 29: Sore throat and sever headache went away in 2 days. Jan:4 until now Dry Mouth and what I believe is a swollen gland under my right armpit. Its low, like parallel with my nipple under the armpit. Dont find a nut like lump though, just general swelling and stiff neck. I have been extremely anxious about this ordeal since Dec. 4th. I just know I have it.
