Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar m tn Yes it only temporarily solves the problem, but especially at your age, things can improve with some time. Also sometimes certain food intolerances or lifestyles (ex. sleeping laying flat or eating soon before going to bed) can make reflux worse.
Avatar n tn As far as medication is concerned, a lot of people--particularly those without many symptoms--get by with simple dietary changes like avoiding fatty meals, and eating 6 smaller meals during the day. Some do better with liquid meals in the evenings (avoiding all food 4+ hours before bed, and 2+ hours). Every person is different, so it's all a matter of experimentation. Even without symptoms you want to treat the condition by trying to find the root cause.
Avatar n tn I keep forgetting to take my omeprazole dr 20 mg 30 minutes before meals, can I take it after the meal.
Avatar f tn I have the same problem. I thought it was my son not letting the food threw but when i went to the Dr for heartburn she said its just a symptom of heartburn. I felt so full and the food sat there forever. I even got sick a time or 2 because it wasn't going anywhere. Talk with your Dr. I got put on zantac for my heartburn and it has helped with the food just sitting there in my stomach. Im supposed to take it twice a day but i take it in the morning and ill take it at night as needed.
Avatar n tn This is unlikely to be the effect of either constipation or omeprazole. The occurrence of black/ brown stools is known as melaena and indicates the presence of blood (oxidized haemoglobin) from an upper GI bleed or the presence of a coloring agent like beet root or iron supplements in it.
Avatar f tn The other reason could be due to esophageal reflux, where the food in your stomach is thrown up into your food pipe or esophagus. This also causes burning sensation or discomfort/pain in the chest area. Cough or heart problems too cause discomfort/pain in chest area. I would strongly recommend you see a physician about this. Another possibility is costochondritis (inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum. All the enumerated possibilities cause pain on and off.
Avatar f tn Ive been told that its not related but its been a few days now without change. Can Omeprazole cause this? And lastly your opinion on the treatment given to me: To simply take Omeprazole for a few months and see if it helps. I dont understand - if I still have bloating isnt the cause of the gaatritis still there? What do you think it is? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Yeah it said with food or empty stomach. Also are these gut pains normal did you hVe them constantly?
Avatar f tn Two years ago I was put on omeprazole, had an endoscopy done, and a pH level probe test. Endoscopy came back normal. Omeprazole made me feel dizzy, nauseated, and out of it. Stopped taking it slowly. I learned of low stomach acid and have been taking probiotics & apple cider vinegar pills for two years. Symptoms had 90% been cured! Now my symptoms are flaring up again.
Avatar n tn The surgeon said I could continue with my medication at the time or have an operation. With additional advice I decided to stay on the Proton Pump Inhibitor (Omeprazole). It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you.
Avatar n tn When my acid reflux is at its worse my food feels like it is "getting stuck". Prilosec or omeprazole is what I take. It took it about 2 months to work, but that feeling went away. My doctor said it was because my esophagus was inflamed and irritated. (Had a scope when it first happened. - I didn't have the need to have my esophagus dilated - You need the scope to rule this out.) It takes prilosec about 2 months to heal my esophagus when it gets that way.
Avatar f tn My son takes a medication that is specific WITH food and also another that says you pick with food or without food, but stay consistent with it. I think Coreg, from my reading, is food optional but the recommendation is that with food is better because it slows the rate of absorption. This is to prevent orthostatic hypotension (this is when bp drops and you get dizzy when you stand up). If you aren't having that problem by not taking it with food, then may not be a worry for you.
Avatar f tn t consume more than 2 units or alcohol without excessive belching, nausea and sickness. After tests for helicobacter which were inconclusive I decided to stop drinking. I am now on week six so this has dramatically changed my social life and I am now on 20mg of omeprazole. For the first month it started ok. I cut Alcohol, spicy food, all fizzy drinks, orange juice. Now I'm faced with crippling stomach pain, the belching is back and as worse as when I used to drink.
Avatar m tn I recently visited a doctor and was diagnosed with GERD to end up with a prescrip for Omeprazole 40 mg. I generally do NOT feel any reflux in my esophagus. Is this normal or it possible it is not GERD? I have experienced acid reflux up to my mouth [which is very unpleasant], but this is generally a VERY rare occurance. My sister had some 20 mg over the counter Omep. I have been taking 2 of these at the same time, once daily. Should I be taking the 2 for 40 mb or just one?
581954 tn?1223391496 I have been taking Omeprazole for 2.5 months. I was diagnosed with gerd. Ever since I have been taking this drug I have been light headed nauses and fatigue. It seemed to gradualy get worse. I have been off it for 4 weeks and still feel the light headed and fatigue. Some days are better than others. It usually sticks around for a day. I have been tested ok for every thing else. Been in the ER 3 times for this concern. They say it could be anxiety?
Avatar f tn 5 months ago i started to had a digestive system problems symptoms like bloat and feeling of fullness they said to me i have a colon problem then i had gerd after that and feeling of heartburn i took ppi like omeprazole and when i stop it the gerd symptoms appear again and with all of these symptoms i feel numbness sometimes in my left head and my arms and legs come and goes and my breath is shorten without reason and globus sensation in my throat !
Avatar f tn Hiatal hernia is another possibility. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals. Your husband can take several small meals in a day. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal.
Avatar n tn Is it all food or just some food. Have you been tested for food allergies. I have mild food allergies to peanuts, wheat, milk and eggs. When I eat peanuts my mouth burns and feels sore and then I get horrible stomach cramps followed by severe diarrhea, when I eat wheat I get sick with stomach cramps and diarrhea, when I eat eggs my throat feels itchy and swollen, when I eat diary products I have a hard time breathing and can get sick enough to vomit because of all of the mucus production.
Avatar n tn You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried. Many a times a persisting H pylori infection can be the cause behind acidity not responding to treatment.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Hello, I'm new to the GERD community, but I've had acid reflux problems off and on for 10 years. I am sober, I don't drink alcohol or smoke or do drugs. I do LOVE my coffee, and today is my first day trying to give it up. I've been taking omeprazole for a month now. A few years ago I tried a 2 week course of omeprazole and it worked wonders to repair and prevent reflux, I had no symptoms for about 4 months, but then I had to do another 2 week course of 20 mg.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 40mg of omeprozole twice a day for several weeks. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia on March 30. I am supposed to take this for three months and then drop down to once a day. Previous to my diagnosis I had taken 20 mg Prilosec OTC first once a day, than twice after my diagnosis, since the prescription was nearly $200.00 for just 2 weeks worth. I was still having heartburn at night so I finally filed the prescription.
Avatar m tn I have the same problem and was just prescribed omeprazole for one month, I cannot swallow or eat, should I take the omeprazole? Is it safe and will it help?
Avatar n tn I was not able to eat for three days and was not able to swallow food properly through oesophagus. Then I was injected omeprazole (around 6 bottles) over two days in a hospital in India and it started getting better after that. November 2012: I again had the same problem with oesophagus and acid reflux. The doctor in Germany prescribed me Omeprazole 40 mg. Acid reflux problem went away but oesophagus was still the same. It was not that bad but I was not able to swallow foods perfectly down.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend and I are on holiday in Thailand - 10 days ago we were in Laos where she developed a fever which kept her in bed for the best part of 2 days. Although she did not vomit during that time the fever was accopanied by the usual nausea, lack of appetite, weakness, muscle ache etc. along with stomach pain. She took paracetemol over those 2 days which she's never had an adverse reaction to back home.
