prilosec

Avatar n tn She was prescribed 40mg of Protonix once a day. She has been taking this medication for one week, and has been experiencing dizziness and nausea. She weighs about 120 lbs. I looked online, and it appears that these are side effects that some patients experience. My question is: would Nexium pose the same problems for her?
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40mg Omeprazole for a year now for a stomach ulcer and because I also take celebrex 200mg for osteoarthritis I also have diverticulitis/ diverticulosis and had 30 polyps removed from my colon dec.
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar m tn The ulcers are detected by endoscopy. Medical treatment for healing of ulcer is Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for 2 weeks which will reduce acid secretion and heal the ulcer. And eradication of H-pylori infection (an organism found in the bowel) by using antibiotics will promote ulcer healing. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. You can post this in the expert doctors forum also. Regards.
Avatar f tn My doctor never indicated a length of time for taking it, he only listed refills on the bottle. Can I stop taking Protonix without the reflux becoming unbearable?
Avatar f tn Hi there need some help I have been on omeprazole for 2years for acid I felt coming up my throat everything has been ok untill Wednesday had this burning feeling in my stomach had a drink on tuesday on a empty stomach done this a couple times now anyway I took 1 omeprazole and it was still sore phoned the doctor Thursday got to see the nurse she said take 2 omeprazole for a week see if it settles down it's calmed down a bit is this a ulcer doctor never told me if I had 1 thanks if someone c
Avatar n tn You're incorrect. Omeprazole isn't a definitive treatment for peptic ulcers in that it won't correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.
Avatar m tn I am a woman in her late 30's. I have been taking omeprazole for 2 years now. I was instructed to take it by a ENT doctor for healing of my esophagus due to acid erosion(scarring) caused by silent reflux. (Diagnosed via endoscopy) I have noticed a decrease in hunger, lack of "growling" of the stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? Is long term use of omeprazole really safe?
Avatar f tn No significant improvement on the carafate after a month. My primary care Dr. thinks my stress and anxiety are a factor in my stomach not healing. I don't think it actually caused the ulcer, but he said that too much stress can cause your stomach to produce more acid. I'm extremely stressed out and anxious about pretty much everything these days, and noticed that my body, especially my abdomen, is always tensed up without me even realizing it.
621217 tn?1289009087 I started taking omeprazole 20 mg once a day. That is Prilosec and it is sold over the counter for about ten dollars a box for a 2 week supply. That was working at first but then I had to start taking 40 mg of it. My doctor prescribed Protonix 40 mg once a day for me a couple of months back. It took about 2 weeks before my symptoms subsided to a point where I almost felt normal. Both of these drugs are called Proton Pump Inhibitors and basically they are strong anti acids.
Avatar f tn actually medicaid will pay for protonix or a generic version of it...I had gotten it filled three X just recently.
Avatar f tn I've had a bad ulcer for the past few months, and just recently got a new job. I'm on Protonix and aloe Vera capsules, but I still get nauseous way to often and my stomach burns every few hours... my question is: is there a way to help ulcer pain without eating? I lost a job because of this stomach issue and just recently got a new one. I'm in school so I have to be making money to stay in school, but I don't want to get fired for having to eat so often and drink so often.
Avatar n tn Saw dr today after asking questions where he first thought maybe gallbladder, he said ulcer or gastritis and he bets gastritis. Prescribed protonix. Stook first dose about five hrs ago. Also drank some baking soda water and took pepto and its still there. Not exactly pain, just a gnawing empty feeling even tho i know im not hungry. Anyone ever have this? How long for protonix to kick in? I had nausea this morning too and vomited which is why i went to the dr. No burning really no heartburn.
Avatar m tn You will need to take a combination of medications like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into and a combination antibiotic tried. Life style changes that will help include: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals.
Avatar m tn They are giving him protonix, omeprazole, carafat, and phenegran. For some reason they seem to think its h-pylori even though the tests were negative. They are sure its a bacterial infection..but can't seem to get the vomiting under control..oh they are giving morphine for pain. Does anyone have any suggestions or similar symptoms...he has been hospitalized at Rady's Childrens Hosp. since Friday, almost a week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Avatar n tn I'm taking omeprazole for acid reflux's. Is there a similar medicine that does not carry the dizziness label. My acid reflux's is low.
Avatar f tn In October I had a burning pain under my breast bone and started burping after eating. Went to urgent care and doctor prescribed me omeprazole. Took it for two weeks and everything went away. The week of Thanksgiving the pain started to come back and then I had heartburn that lasted for 4 days. Back on the omeprazole. After a week and a half it didn't work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your help! Last night I took 20 mg of Omeprazole and the pain under my ribcage and the constant gurgling went away. Now, a little less than a day later, the symptoms came back I took another tablet and the symptoms subsided. I have been burping just a little bit (I hardly ever burp normally). Are these symptoms indicative of an ulcer or ulcers somewhere in my stomach?
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar m tn I drink aloe vera juice to sooth my insides from my acid reflux and bc I have an ulcer. I have had an ulcer for a month and it dont seem to be healing bc I have so much acid in my stomach all the time. I do not want to take dangerous un natural meds or over the ocunter things like rolaids and I have tried all the over counter meds in the past and that didnt help. my doctor only wants to get money so she offers me the msot expensive dangerous med out there it seems.
