Avatar n tn Hi, For the past couple of years I have had Acid Reflux and have been on 40mg of Omeprazole ever since. The last year or so breakthrough symptoms have taken place. I rarely if ever get conventional heartburn, but I have a constant burn in the back of my throat. Best guess where the throat waterfalls down in terms of location.
Avatar f tn Omeprazole lowers stomach acid essential for absorption of nutrients. The number of nutrient deficiencies that list fatigue as a symptom are numerous but include iron, vitamin B12, and magnesium. The newest warning out for PPI's like omeprazole is magnesium deficiency. Studies found deficiency within 1 year of taking the drug however a few showed deficiency within 3 months.

709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.

I've been taking magnesium supplements (along with B1 and B12) and things are returning to normal. I did go to my local doctor to see what she had to say and it was exactly what I expected. Ignored my research and tried to treat the symptoms, not the cause. Wanted to put me on prozac!
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.

Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?

Avatar f tn I was told by my endocrinologist the other day that every day I take omeprazole, my medication won’t help me much. We’re talking about vitamin D calcium magnesium my T3 and my T4 medication my Crestor so on and so forth. And it shows I mean I have aged 10 years in the last five. At any rate I wanted to know what the best way is to test stomach acid levels? I have been 10 days without omeprazole it took a long time for me to get this far.
Avatar m tn I had been having acid reflux for a few weeks, and last week I woke up after rolling over on my stomach during the night with acid burning my esophagus. A doctor perscribed me Nexium, but since my insurance wouldn't cover it, I started taking over the counter Omeprazole instead. The very next day I woke up with stomach pain and cramps at around the same time I had the acid reflux the previous night.

Avatar m tn ve seen comments with all kinds of opinions comparing the effectiveness of different forms of Prilosec (generic name omeprazole). But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec.

Avatar m tn Last month my gastro doctor upgraded my omeprazole from 20mg to 40mg - mainly because my insurance company doesn't cover omeprazole 20mg anymore because it is available over the counter. So I have been taking 40mg once a day for about a month. Lately my stomach has been feeling a little queasy with bloated gas. I'm wondering if I'm getting too much omeprazole and may have too little acid.
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking lexapro for anxiety & depression and Omeprazole for Gerd and just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant. Avatar m tn I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.
