Omeprazole use in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole use in pregnancy

Hi, Omeprazole should be avoided during pregnancy. It is a category C drug. Category C drug - Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks. So no need to worry about that one dose.
An FDA spokesman said the agency has revoked device approvals before, although the step is rare. ReGen, based in Hackensack, N.J., asked the FDA in 2005 to approve its device under the so-called 510k system, which allows speedy approval for devices that are similar to products already on the market. ReGen argued that the Menaflex was comparable to shoulder joint implants sold by Johnson & Johnson, Stryker and other companies.
Of course with us guys, we have the added dimension of this being an area that is already prone to performance-anxiety (if you know what I mean), so that will be something that I would imagine would make a fairly big difference in our perspectives. Also, I have read that pregnancy/childbirth can sometimes damage perineal and pudendal nerves, but they usually heal in the months after delivery. Have you perhaps given birth recently? As for myself, I have good days and bad.
The best way to describe the sound is like a stomach growling, only in the throat. It's incredibly embarrassing and I can't prevent it from happening. It tends to happen a lot after I drink juice or soda, but also sometimes after meals where I only drank water. Along with the gurgle I feel some light pressure in my lower throat, near my collarbone, like there's air trying to get out (no pain).
what to take in diet if one having her pregnancy and she is also suffering from high level of sgpt?? what to take in food to lower down the level of sgpt?? kindly suggest..
I have had this terrible sore tight chest pain with feeling of lump in my throat for around six weeks now. I've been on Omeprazole and that didn't seem to help at all - just made me feel worse: feeling sick, pains in stomach (that I hadn't had prior) headaches. Went back to see my Dr. and she changed the tablets but they aren't taking the symptoms away either. I've starved myself of wine, chocolate, fatty foods. Lost about half a stone as a consequence, but all to no avail!
I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
I had my third child about 9 months ago and had had some trouble with varicose and spider veins in the pregnancy and now after. I called the cardiologist that looked at my veins previosly and asked her nurse about it today. She was clueless. She thought that it sounded like hormones and a hot flash. But that sounds weird in the leg. She said that a clot would most likely be bulging and painful. I am going to try the B vitamin, and if that doesn't work I will get some tests run.
I have found some significant research that indicates that Omeprazole and also Metformin can indeed lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, which can in turn cause nerve damage. I started taking Omeprazole in early October 2009 and had my first neuralgia attack in early November 2009. I quit taking Omeprazole in late May 2011. I had my last bad attack in late February 2011. I also have taken Metformin for about a year. Now I have weaned off the Gabapentin to see if the pain returns.
The pressure of growing fetus inside the uterus and the pregnancy hormones may cause pregnant moms to have indigestion and heartburn. Omeprazole (Prilosec) is in the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is effective in suppressing acid and improving heartburns, but it does not work immediately. It may take up to 2-3 days for it to be effective and should be taken on an empty stomach with 6-8 oz of water daily, not as needed.
I try coughing or drinking but the throat noise does not go away or even change it. I can tell it is not in my lungs, but in my throat. I can breathe shallow and minimize the noise but I feel out of breath then. My daughters say this wheeze is not my snore. They say I wheeze before the snore on intake and then exhale. I hear the noise during the day but I really have to listen to hear it as there is always too much back ground noise.
I am 24 years old and have been dealing with stomach issues since my daughter was born in 2006. I had a wonderful pregnancy, no nausea no vomiting, nothing and had a beautiful healthy daughter. Before i was pregnant i was healthy and very rarely ever sick. In 2007, after being undiagnosed for 6-8 months, they found gallstones and my gallbladder was removed, but even now 4 years later, i'im still sick and suffering. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia, acid reflux, GERD.
I've had acid reflux my whole pregnancy and I'll be 36 weeks Tuesday. Tums worked the first week. DOctor told me to use Zantac once a day and then if it stops working to do it twice a day. It has worked great.
Hi! Nexium is Esomeprazole, which is a sister drug of omeprazole. Omeprazole is FDA category C drug, which means whether it can harm the unborn baby or not cannot is not known. It is to be used judiciously. If you have to take this drug, and want a baby, then you need to do so under the guidance of a specialist. It is best to consult a specialist at an infertility center as they are geared to handle all difficult cases. Take care!

I've had acid reflux since my last pregnancy. Your doctor can give you omeprazole in pregnancy which help. If you dont want to take pill, don't eat anything spicy, no fizzy pops etc. Kept proped up in bed. Milk helps.
If you have doubt then you can take blood pregnancy test. This test estimates HCG in blood and is more reliable than urine test. Feeling very hungry can also be due to stomach ulcers and severe acidity. Even GERD presents with similar symptoms. At times the hunger pangs due to acidity wakes up a person in the wee hours of night. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids.
, D, or X category, that means during pregnancy. In this case it would be a big no-no during pregnancy since it has revealed to have adverse effects on the fetus but as for nursing, it is considered to be one of the safer drugs.
It is usually in the mornings as soon as I wake up to use the restroom. I also never have a normal bowel movement. It is always, always diarrea. I often get hungry, but don't have an appetite to eat..If I do not eat anything my nausea lasts for hours. I am always tired. I have taken pregnancy tests that result in a negative, so i know i am not pregnant. I have had my gall bladder taken out; I am currently taking medication for my thyroid and for anxiety; and I also have sleep apnea.
-Heathers Tummy Fibers [Acacia Fiber] works also. Find them in health stores. Use Tummy Fibers very gradually. Call the company. The will help you! -I have also found that organic rice pasta, & organic black rice I tolorate better. -Those are also gluten free. I stay away from gluten, yeast, wheat, soy, & milk also.If I can stay away from sugar it helps. -However, doctors will say to have more grains! That doesn't work for me.
I am really hating our insurance. At least we're figuring out before we end up in the ER though.....oh and on another another group..I can't get over some people...the question was asked who has used KY and still got if it's a form of birth control. What are we teaching our kids in health class these days?
I take quite a bit of excederin/NSAIDS, so im sure that doesn't help. I get a metallic taste in my mouth once in a while too. I wind up snacking on, eating chocolate or chewing gum to get rid of it.
You will need to consult your PCP and rule out these causes one by one. Take Omeprazole 20mg in morning empty stomach and see if it helps. There will be no heart burn at times. Raise the head end of bed. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
I have found that drinking an 8 ounce glass of water with 1/2 tsp of baking soda dissolved in it helps too, in a pinch-but I definitely recommend you invest in a Costco sized container of tums...or two....
It seems that many members are often having "bad" drug screens so again, here is some information on why your Test may be wrong. Medications & Substances Causing False Positives According to a report by the Los Angeles Times New Service, a study of 161 prescription and over the counter medications showed that 65 of them produced false positive results in the most widely administered urine test.
There are a few possibilities for the feeling of something stuck in your throat. One is that an irritant (reflux, post-nasal drip for example) is causing irritation of pain and/or triger the cough receptors (nerves) in your throat. Another possibility is that there is actually a physical “something” lodged beneath the surface of your throat (for example, a small piece of ingested bone, such as chicken bone or some other foreign body) that was not visible on endoscopy.
You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried. Life style changes that will help include: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals.
