Hi, Omeprazole should be avoided during pregnancy. It is a category C drug. Category C drug - Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks. So no need to worry about that one dose.

I've had acid reflux my whole pregnancy and I'll be 36 weeks Tuesday. Tums worked the first week. DOctor told me to use Zantac once a day and then if it stops working to do it twice a day. It has worked great.
Nexium is Esomeprazole, which is a sister drug of omeprazole. Omeprazole is FDA category C drug, which means whether it can harm the unborn baby or not cannot is not known. It is to be used judiciously. If you have to take this drug, and want a baby, then you need to do so under the guidance of a specialist. It is best to consult a specialist at an infertility center as they are geared to handle all difficult cases. Take care!

I am easing myself down to 15mg a day rather then30mg as my acid flare ups are now few and far between, they also don't last the 24+hours that they used to. Once my body is used to the 15mg how do I ease myself of the medication without causing a acid reflux flare? I hope someone can help.
I've had acid reflux since my last pregnancy. Your doctor can give you omeprazole in pregnancy which help. If you dont want to take pill, don't eat anything spicy, no fizzy pops etc. Kept proped up in bed. Milk helps.
If you are a female and sexually active, then you need to rule out pregnancy first. Commonest cause of chronic nausea is acidity. Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause.
Hi! A typical winging of scapula is due to paralysis of serratus anterior muscle due to damage of long thoracic nerve due to infection, inflammation or injury. Treatment is by physiotherapy and maybe surgery. Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, acidity, pancreatitis, or ectopic pregnancy or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection.
So I've been prescribed Omeprazole (Generic of Prilosec) for Gastritis and Acid Reflux, and checked it out today and it says I shouldn't use it while nursing. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow, and will also be asking him about it then, but will it actually do any harm to my daughter? I've been taking 20 mg for around 5-6 days now. He knew I was nursing when prescribing it as well. Is this a risks/benefits thing, or will I have to completely stop taking it?
i would be around 2 or 3 months but i know you can't start showing this early especially if it is your first pregnancy. is it possible to have a normal period while pregnant?
Hi..Congratulations on ur pregnancy.... The pregnancy is most likely the cause of ur flare...and what and how u eat may be helpful. Try eating 5 to 6 little meals a day....keep dry crackers nearby to help with ne nasuea or hunger pangs. U may have a hiatal hernia and the developing fetus is taking up room and pushing on it causing these issues. Elevate the head of ur bed..avoid eating late at night, especially dairy, but do not lie down for 3 to 4 hrs after u eat.
but im thinking of trying zantac for her the least doisage possible just to cjeck if it will reduce the spitting and the crankiness after feeds, but i also don't want her tummy to get used to it since my self i have been on omeprazole for years and can't live without it.. it's only during my pregnancy that I have changed to zantac and in severe cases pariet or lanzor.
Also, medications used during pregnancy for nausea (like vitamin B-6) may also be helpful.
However to confirm the status of pregnancy, I suggest you to test for pregnancy by a highly sensitive pregnancy test 10 days post ovulation with a sensitive ( 20 - 25 mIU ) pregnancy test. Also then I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests. If pregnancy tests come out negative then get your thyroid status done.
PPI's dont solve the acid reflux problem but only make it worse in the long term. I have used many including nexium and omeprazole. As you said they work by shutting off acid pumps in the stomach so how is your food going to be digested? So I am basically looking for other cures these days..currently I am using apple cider vinegar, digestive enzymes and acidophillus(probiotics).
Hi! If you are sexually active then one possibility is pregnancy. So take a pregnancy test and see. Early morning nausea and vomiting can also be due to severe acidity and acid reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. If the vomit is due to reflux, this will help you. Do discuss this with your doctor as well and get yourself examined. Take care!
Dear i was diagnosed with HCV in 1998 and my index value was 7.83 and my SGPT was 2130 with 41 normal(people donot believe me i have to show them my multiple lab results). I bring my SGPT to 35 in two months. and my HCV was cured also. now i have HCV again positive. I have been treated by homeopathic doctor in our city. Ur SGPT can come down in three days to normal from 69 to 40 if u use "Carduus Marinus". It is a homeopathic medicine and also known as milk thistle.
I just had a baby 5 weeks ago. The pregnancy was tough as I developed gallbladder symptoms about 15 weeks into it. I did alright with a low fat diet for awhile, but eventually I was having pain and symptoms no matter what I ate. My amylase has consistently been elevated since it was first checked last fall. About 2 months ago, I started having really bad pain in my left upper abdomen. It seems to get worse when I lay down at night.
For the past few months i have been periodically vomiting yellow stuff. It is usually in the mornings as soon as I wake up to use the restroom. I also never have a normal bowel movement. It is always, always diarrea. I often get hungry, but don't have an appetite to eat..If I do not eat anything my nausea lasts for hours. I am always tired. I have taken pregnancy tests that result in a negative, so i know i am not pregnant.

Take Omeprazole 20mg in morning empty stomach and see if it helps. There will be no heart burn at times. Raise the head end of bed. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
Forgot to mention that if GERD (too much acid in the stomache) is left untreated it can cause erosions (ulcers) in your stomache, or even esophagus (where the food travels, path from the throat to the stomache). Omeprazole is also used not only for the treatment of GERD, but also to help repair, or prevent the damage.
Heart rate stays around 100 bpm and bp usually stage 1 or 2. Never had heart or bp issues before this pregnancy. It's been 3 days since Dr visit and yesterday I had a new symptom like a lump is stuck in the bottom of my neck or throat. Today still have all listed symptoms, and Dr doesn't have test results yet. Just wondering if anyone has had this or knows what could be the cause?!?!
Since the device's approval, the top two device regulators who oversaw Menaflex's review have left the agency. Four New Jersey Democrats -- U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone and Steve Rothman and U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg -- each had appealed to the FDA on ReGen's behalf, according to accounts last year from Rothman and spokesmen for the three others.
I have a 15 month old son who was born c-section as well. Throughout this pregnancy I had some complications where around my 26th week I could not keep any food down, I had upper, right abdominal pain and I was super sick. When we went in they initially thought that it was my gallbladder and sent me in to do an ultra sound and did blood tests.
It can also be due to acidity and duodenal ulcer. Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. It could also be muscle pull that can be treated by applying local analgesic creams. It could also be costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone.
Acid blockers were brought onto the market for short term use only. Digestive enzyme supplements are great to help prevent reflux conditions and help with overall digestion. Betaine HCI with pepsin supplements help with insufficient stomach acid. Most stomach ulcers are due to the H pylori bacteria and can be cured in two weeks with triple antibiotic therapy. A urea breath test is an easy test to confirm or rule out H Pylori. Another cause of stomach ulcers is chronic use of painkillers.
u also have people who get ibs for no known reason and 50% of people who present with ibs get it after a stomach bug/virus or if there is damage done to the flora{natural bacteria }of the bowel mainly through over use of anti-bioitcs/stress.this can be reversed through use of probioicts and digestive enzymes.
No I rarely use the Immodium....if I did I would most likely never use the bathroom. Lol. That's not to say that I haven't a few times...but definitely not on a regular basis.
