Avatar n tn t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.

Avatar m tn t had an endoscopy yet but just curious - what happens if you have a gastric ulcer with H.pylori and just take omeprazole? Would the ulcer ever heal?
Avatar f tn This is day 4, and I am on 10 mg.of omeprazole. The first two days were terrible, the third fine now the fourth is terrible.
Avatar f tn I need help for my cousin she has a peptic ulcer I gave her two geltazine but still she is suffering pain what should I do to make her better?
Avatar m tn It may be gastritis or ulcer, these are actually two stages of the same process. They both usually start wit H. pylori infection, what causes increased acid secretion and leads toward gastritis or ulcer. It can't be said from the outside, if it is ulcer or not - only upper endoscopy would show that. But before this, just go and have breath test for H. pylori. If positive, it is treated with 2 weeks antibiotics. You can continue with omeprazole, but speak with the doctor about it.
Avatar m tn The ulcers are detected by endoscopy. Medical treatment for healing of ulcer is Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for 2 weeks which will reduce acid secretion and heal the ulcer. And eradication of H-pylori infection (an organism found in the bowel) by using antibiotics will promote ulcer healing. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. You can post this in the expert doctors forum also. Regards.

Avatar f tn My gastro doctor did a follow up endoscopy about 8 weeks later and all was clear. I was using omeprazole to clear the ulcer. Fast forward to now. I have the following symptoms. Lumpy throat (on and off) very short like pinch sensation lower esophagus (on and off) Upper abdominal stomach "raw" type ache on the left and right side - happened twice recently. Occasional heartburn and really bad foul smelling flatulence.
Avatar m tn What you describe, though, actually sounds like something else that happened to me which was a duodenal ulcer. I had a small ulcer in my intestines high up. I had burning every time I ate and pain. Are your bowel movements impacted (IBS often either has diarrhea, constipation or both)? Did you have an endoscopy?
Avatar n tn I am taking Omeprazole 20mg+0+20mg since 07.21.2009 as i have duodenal ulcer confirmed by Endoscopy. I am suffering liver cirrhosis with verix 2-3 had EVL I want to know is it safe for my liver to continue omeprazole for long duration?
Avatar f tn Since July 2017 I have been having the following symptom: hemorrhoids, passing excessive mucus alone and also in my stool, blood shot eyes, ongoing abdominal pain, tired, diagnosed with an ulcer, Barrett's esophagus, hemangioma, and fatty liver. I have had a colonoscopy and EGD. Colonoscopy was fine. EDG diagnosed ulcer and Barrett's esophagus. Gall bladder HIDA scan was okay. Took Omeprazole for 90 days which I finished this week.
Avatar m tn t have current digestive problems (did have an ulcer in the past but that seems unrelated) and I tested negative for H. Pylori. I don't have tonsil stones either. Despite testing negative for H. Pylori, I found some studies showing an effective treatment with Metronidazole + Omeprazole and for the past 4-5 years I've been doing that every 2-6 months. The smell completely goes away 2 days after I start taking it (I continue for 1-2 weeks).
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Ulcer medications: 2 antibiotics and Omeprazole. a week ago, i got signs of an early UTI, and i drunk lots of water with few lemon drops....it went away, and now 2 days ago i have more signs of UTI(burning during urination and some pressure in my bladder)....I just went to the bathroom like 15min ago, and now i want to go back. Could this be an UTI? how can it be if i just finished 2 kinds of antibiotics? Could it be the omeprazole medication??? Please help!
Avatar m tn Not sure about the ulcer....but I do know it can take time to heal after being DX'd with H. Pylori....
Avatar f tn Hello I have been here before, this time my doctor or at least the ER doctors have told me I could have a ulcer, but they don't know. Any way the pain is so intense that I can't sleep don't eat much because I am afraid it will come back with a vengeance. I use to take iron pills 325mg twice a day, omeprazole 20mg twice a day, I drink malox or pepto bismuth to try and coat the stomach. At the ER they gave me narcos to help with pain. I just refuse to take that.
Avatar f tn t play football for a longtime, when playing or running, I will feel a very tiring ache in my stomach, which I will need to rest and fart before it would go away. I later discovered am having ulcer and I start using omeprazole to suppress it. Am confused about my whole digestive system. Anyone has a clue about what could be happening to me?
Avatar f tn I think it may be adrenalin and anxiety combined. My doctor has sent me to a specialist who will be testing for an ulcer with an endoscopy procedure. I have to wait a month. I am currently prescribed Xanax 3 times a day at 1mg. and Omeprazole for a suspected ulcer. I feel nauseous and sick every morning. My bowels are always soft and rarely formed. I'm scared and wondering if anyone might have other ideas as to what this could be. Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn Hence you need to investigate for liver and gall bladder issues, pancreatitis with tests for serum amylase and lipase, and to rule out acidity or duodenal ulcer by taking omeprazole and seeing if your pain responds to it. It can also be muscle injury, or nerve compression. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar m tn The pain which you suffered is probably due to some acute gastritis/peptic ulcer pain which typically occurs in the night and is usually associated with nausea. If you take some antacids/omeprazole/pantoprazole, you’ll be fine. Please consult gastroenterologist/physician and you may need an endoscopy in case the symptoms recur on regular basis, otherwise a short course of anti-ulcer drugs should be fine. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn m supposed to take Omeprazole for an ulcer. Does anybody know if this is one of the medicines you can or cannot take? Thanks for you help.
16045532 tn?1445055795 Could this be duodenal ulcer? A trial of Omeprazole would quickly tell you.
Avatar m tn Was given endoscopy and prescribed omeprazole (40mg) until next endoscopy in one year. Was told the pain should go away in about a month. It's been about 2 months and the pain is still just as bad. Could I not have a hernia or ulcer and could this have been overlooked somehow in the endoscopy?
Avatar m tn Since I was previously on a prescription anti inflammatory for tennis elbow my doctor thought it was a stomach ulcer. After a month of omeprazole I was no better and had a stool test for H.Pylori which came up negative. Since then I've been suffering in silence trying to figure out if I can solve the problem myself by changing my diet or taking over the counter medication but have had no luck. The problem now seems to be more associated with my abdomen.
Avatar m tn If you have had it longer than a week or two than it could be an ulcer caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, or it could be your gallbladder, or if you are a woman you could be pregnant (if you haven't checked) . Also you could have too much stomach acid. You would try over the counter Zantac and see if this helps or omeprazole. But omeprazole can cause diarrhea in a lot of people so if that happens stop taking it.
