I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
With regard to the Omeprazole, I was taking 20 mg twice a day when I read on another forum that the Omeprazole interferes with Sovaldi and Olysio in that they need the acid to work best. I asked my doctor about this and he said it's true the drugs do need the acid and advised me to only take 20 mg once a day and to take it 12 hours before the S/O. Not sure if this relates to Harvoni though.
They are usually taken once a day before a meal but may be taken twice a day when used with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, or up to three times a day when used to treat conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid. The nonprescription delayed-release tablets or capsules are usually taken once a day in the morning at least 1 hour before eating for 14 days in a row. Additional 14-day treatments may be repeated once every 4 months if needed.
I was prescribed of Essentiale forte twice a day for a month, Iterax twice a day for my anxiety, and Omeprazole twice a day for my gastric acid formation. It's been 14 days since I started Essentiale forte. I stopped my Iterax but continued my Omeprazole. My concern now is I'm still feeling fatigue but not the same level of fatigue I felt on the first week or two. Occasionally I take my Iterax whenever I'm feeling anxious. Please enlighten me. What would be the cause of my fatigue?
I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.
I take 20 mg of omeprazole a day, carafate 1 g 2xdaily, and Zantac 300 at bedtime. I have cirrhosis with hepatic gastropathy and my stomach is a mess. My transplant hepatologist said it was better than a bleed. Better check.
Does anyone suffer from bloating after taking losec/omeprazole, am taking 1 twice a day (20mg each)?
Hi...I have never heard of that med, but in research see it is used for reflux and gerd jut like the meds I am aware of.
The dr will RX meds for the mgs and dosage ( times per day) per ur symptoms and how much healing u need.....I am on a gerd med and take it twice a day.....
If u also modify ur diet and lifestyle u may heal a bit faster and be able to cut back on teh dosage faster.
Second - deal aggressively with the constipation so that it is not part of the equation - that just confuses everything. Miralax (or the store brand) is very good - use a dose every day or even twice a day until the bowels are working well, then cut back. It is not gritty like the fiber supplements, and generally works without causing cramping.
The recommended treatment is 90 days use of an antiacid of the PPI class, ( Proton Pump Inhibitors ), like Omeprazole, ( Prilosec ), or Pantoprazole, ( Protonix ) for example, at low dose but TWICE a day BEFORE meals. Zantac, ( Ranitidine ) or otherantiacids of its class, ( H2 Blocker ), wont work well in the case of LPR.

I use to take iron pills 325mg twice a day, omeprazole 20mg twice a day, I drink malox or pepto bismuth to try and coat the stomach. At the ER they gave me narcos to help with pain. I just refuse to take that. But anyway I am 5'3, 115 pds, 45 yrs old. I understand how important it is to see a GI specialists but I can not afford it. My insurance want pay for it because they said this was a already existing condition before I got the insurance.
32 y/o female. Symptoms since about age 14: daily nausea, weakness, dizziness; almost daily random (inexplicable) fevers, random (inexplicable) sharp pains throughout my body (bones, joints, veins), random feelings of heart palpitations or like my heart skips a beat and then thuds back into rhythm; a few random rashes (which may not even be related).
I was having panic attacks which caused me to have a little bit of acid reflux one time so my doctor prescribed me a generic form of omeprazole to take twice daily 20mg 2x a day, I took it for over 2 months, and within the 2 months my anxiety and panic got worse to the point where when I would try to eat my heart would race and put me in a panic attack. This drug seemed to have increased my anxiety/panic attacks.
