omeprazole side effects dry mouth

I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.

He has prescribed Omeprazole 40 mg 2 x a day. Levsin for cramping that I have a horrible time taking due to chronic dry mouth and it doesn't seem to help much. Zofran as needed for nausea. I take low dose Xanax. I also started using Gas X. He prescribed Nortriptyline, which I have not started taking yet due to dry mouth side effects. I have been to the ER 3 times now due to stomach pain and bloating and nausea. I also have been having problems with hacking phelgm buildup in my throat.

Does anyone know if permanent loose stools a common side effect of the regular intake of Omeprazole? I have no other side effects whatsoever.

Does anyone know if dry mouth is a side effect of melatonin supplements. If so how long would this side effect last after discontinuation?

Reading these posts, I agree that the dry mouth is a real big one, I HAD to have a bottle of water at all times! Brain fog... yes. Dry skin... yes, I was so lucky to have a loving husband who applied lotion along with a head to toe body massage almost every night after things started getting to the point where I was too sick to do much of anything. He was the reason I di get through the treatments!

Rinse mouth with Biotene dry mouth rinse. It works quite well.

burning tongue, sores in mouth, corners of mouth, looks like elbows are blistery and itchy, cracked heels, one has deep looking slit that is pretty painful at times, bad brain fog, crazy itching, muscle aches, feeling blah, very emotional, headaches especially as soon as i hit the sun, diareah, nausea, never know from one moment to the next what's gonna happen, but other than that doing GREAT lol...............

I've been taking Nexium 40 mg. for about 4 years with no side effects. I was recently switched by my doctor to the generic brand Esomprazole Magnesium & have a very dry mouth. Is it possible it is from the generic med?

Have you tried looking up the side affects of the meds you are on, and have been on? I haven't looked up what you have listed, but excessive dry mouth and upset stomach can definitely be caused from meds. Infact, that's usually the biggest culprit, I would suggest looking them up and taking the info to your Doc, if you find that it's a side affect of any of them. They don't always know this stuff, and your pharmacist would have better insight to this as well.

I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.

Saw an endo doc and she told me to not take the Nexium or Omeprazole (Prilosec) due to the possible side effects. Called my doc the other day because I have had stomach pain and feeling of nausea. He tells me to take the Omeprazole!!! Next day, no better so asked the pharmacist if I could take it 3 times a day instead of twice. He told me I was already on twice the dose and should only be taking it once a day (20 mg).

I did get that and I do not know if this was just the trial however I had an EKG done as well, several in fact during the course of the trial. Also, as OH said, for dry mouth Biotene has some very good products as a dry mouth is more prone to cavities, etc.

I would say his side effects since finishing incivek include itching (no rash), fatigue, some weakness/shortness of breath, fatigue, dry mouth/metallic taste in mouth, and insomnia. I think that the symptoms he is experiencing right now (post incivek) are very similar/identical to the side effects he had with previous two treatments. For the itching, he takes Atavan. For the insomnia, he takes Ambien. For dry mouth, he uses Biotene products.

The side effects I have are anxiety, dizzyand , dry mouth My doctor told me to take xanax with it until the side effects go away. Any idea when that will be??? I keep trying to take wellbutrin alone to see if the side effects are going away, but I usually end up taking the xanax a few hours in because I just can't handle al the jittering and other side effects I am getting. I am also experiencing sores and problems in my mouth. The doctor says that this is also a side effect to the medicine. I will do what I have to do to make it through the end, but I just would like to know if there are others in my area that may go to HepC meetings, if they even exist. My family, friends, and boyfriend are 100% with me but unfortunately it is so hard for me to explain to them what I am going through, physically and emotionally.

I also developed pretty pronounced dry mouth, and was also having a problem with slurring my words more. I initially was scared that it was an exacerbation but then realized the sx came on the morning after starting the drug. I gave it 5 days to see if any of this improved. None of it did, and the dry mouth got steadily worse. So, I stopped it, and by the second day, the leg weakness/pain, dry mouth, slurred speech, were all pretty much gone.

Well, it is now after 11:00 pm and I am no better. I finally tried to eat some soup and crackers. Mtook another Omeprazole before. Still bloated, nauseated and "extremely" dry mouth and throat. Biotene products, drinking water, sucking sugarless lemon lozenges, nothing helps. Was laying down watching TV and again broke out in a sweat. Tried taking a Tums, no help. The GI doc gave me a prescription for generic Levsin. I have never taken this before. Side effects scare me.

The problem with Levsin is that it has a well known side effect for dry mouth. I don't understand why he has you on Omeprazole for IBS, it's a PPI and helps with problems related to stomach acid. Did he say what it's supposed to be doing? You could also see about doing low doses of anti-depressants if anti-spastics don't work for you.
