Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole rebound

prilosec

Avatar f tn I took omeprazole in 2021and 2022, after taking it three times a week in months of November 2022 through my last day was on January 20th 2023. My acid reflux has started to come back in June and still here now. I had no problems in months of February through May. Is it possible for my reflux to come back because i was not taking omeprazole in those months? I started taking it again on June 14th (doctors orders). I just find it weird that it just all the sudden came back.
Avatar m tn Was put on omeprazole while investigating bronchitis symptoms with final diagnosis from biopsy of Langerhans histiocytosis in 2009. Only on oxygen 24:7 with no complications to date.. Seriously want to get off omeprazole. Will going off impact lung problem now that we it is Langerhans and not bronchitis?
Avatar n tn I've been taking 40mg. of prilosec for 3 weeks. Now taking just 20mg. I want to stop taking it, how do I wean myself off? I've read you get a rebound reaction which is worse than the hearburn. I can't cut the pills in half because they are time release.
Avatar f tn My consultant has taken me off omeprazole and replaced it with ranitidine due to the fact that my magnesium is low, and is making my calcium low too. Has anyone else had experience of this change, and if so, how has your body reacted to it.
Avatar m tn I am a woman in her late 30's. I have been taking omeprazole for 2 years now. I was instructed to take it by a ENT doctor for healing of my esophagus due to acid erosion(scarring) caused by silent reflux. (Diagnosed via endoscopy) I have noticed a decrease in hunger, lack of "growling" of the stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? Is long term use of omeprazole really safe?
1709162 tn?1314084832 U should have stepped off the omeprazole, and u can suffer what is called rebound effects....the med stops the stop acids from being produced, and when u stop taking the meds, u begin to make too much of the acid...and y it is better to slowly step down off these meds...so I understand how u feel, but for testing I also understand y u had to stop them...it is just an uncomfortable couple of days..... I would ask for a ph test....and see if u have a hiatal hernia...
Avatar m tn It’s been three weeks and it’s not as bad, but the problem still going on. I have read this is the drug’s rebound. How long should this last? I am really mad, because I think this drug was prescribed unnecessarily. I was 39 and in excellent physical condition.

Avatar f tn I have been treated for silent reflux by taking 40 mg of omeprazole 45 minutes before supper for last four months. I have just started tapering down to 20mg. I also take acebutolol for premature heart beats 200mg 2x a day. My husband swears by unsulphured black strap molasses for his reflux and arthritis in his hands. I would love to try it but I have read foods rich in potassium are to be avoided with beta blockers. Blackstrap is rich in potassium and iron. I have also considered DGL tablets.
1709162 tn?1314084832 I was given the triple course treatment ( amoxcillan clarythamacin and omeprazole, excuse spelling!) for a week which I finished 6 weeks ago.I was told to continue on the omeprazole 20mg once a day and am still taking them. I am taking a probiotic capsule every day for the past couple of months also. I am feeling worse than ever. I improved my diet do not drink cut out caffeine etc. Feel worse than ever have still got stomach pains bloated stomach burning in esophogus and diarrhoea every day.
Avatar m tn Try to avoid taking too much over-the-counter pain reliever because this may also cause rebound headaches. Ice pack and identification of triggers (using the headache/migraine tracker of medhelp) may provide relief. Knowing the triggers (food, weather climate, etc) will help in migraine prevention. If it still persists, you may need to have this evaluated further for proper management. Your medical history and complete physical examiantion will help determine the underlying cause.
170935 tn?1225371076 In the meantime, try taking an antacid to help with any possible acid problems. Omeprazole (Prilosec OTC) would be the hammer here, but it might be too much of a good thing. Try first Gaviscon (or something with alginic acid). If that doesn't work, Try something like Pepcid Complete (H2-inhibitor + acid neutralizer). If those don't work pretty much immediately (Pepcid may take a couple of days) then move on to the omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor.
Avatar f tn My question is, should I be worried about the nearly constant dull ache between my shoulder blades or is this a normal part of acid rebound? If it’s normal, I can persevere through the pain and keep cutting down on that horrid PPI. Has anyone else dealt with this? I am considering making an appointment with my PCP, but they always say I should increase my PPI as high as possible. I am tired of drugs. I am only 37 years old.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar n tn is omeprazole a nercotic pain killer? i know some medications that may b addicting so i thought i would double check..also i had seen that u can take in an i.v is this true and if so how?

Avatar m tn Hi, Do you think a different manufacturer, could possibly make a slightly diffrent product,or maybe a different coating ? that could change the makeup of Omeprazole, or any other product for that matter.
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar f tn She prescribed valium to help relax my muscles at night and omeprazole for the morning. She also said to conintue the Ranitidine at night with the fluticasone spray. She also put in for a CT scan and allergy testing. I'm still waiting to hear to be called for all this. All of this is making me miserable and affecting my quality of life. I feel like that is being dramatic, but it's the truth. I wake up miserable and just want to feel myself again.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I'm a 23 year old male student. I've been experiencing a number of sensations recently which are making a negative impact on my every day life. I am not used to this; I'm otherwise a very confident and successful individual. Most of all I've been feeling quite faint and distant all day every day - v fatigued, despite getting enough sleep and eating well. I feel like I'm in quite a severe haze all the time, shakey and disconnected.
Avatar f tn Three common side effects of omeprazole are nausea, mild diarrhea, and headache. Omeprazole also lists as possible side effects, though not common, of constipation, depression and anxiety. I remember getting a nasty headache while on omeprazole myself, unlike my usual migraines. The doctor suggested I go off of the drug, see if the headache stopped and go back on it to see if it started up again.
