Omeprazole not working

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole not working

prilosec

Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
when i was taking 2 20mg i was fine, but the 1 40mg seems to be giving me these side effects, as well as not working so well for the reflux (tho i am thinking i have post nasal drip) i have made an appointment as i need more tablets so i will consult my doctor but in the mean time i was just curious to know if anyone else shared these symptoms.
I saw my physician a few months ago and told him I get bad heartburn (consistently). He prescribed me 20mg of omeprazole. This has been working great for me but I have found that I dont necessarily need it everyday (stool gets hard if I take it everyday) so I have been taking it every other day. Should I maybe check and see if I could take 10mg everyday instead? Also is it normal for someone who is 23 years old to need a drug like this or could there be a different problem?
I told my doctor and he recommended to try omeprazole (40 mg) for 30 days. I do not think that I have acid reflux, because my throat or esophagus does not hurt and there is no heart burn. All the pain is in the lower stomach. By stretching, or taking off elastic from undergarment, I can get relief from the pain. I thought the omeprazole was working, until recently when I had Taco Bell and my stomach hurt again. doctor also said I could be lactose intolerant, but it is not set off by milk...
I have so many questions, I don't even want to take this scary medicine, and it isn't really working very well. It is time to refill the precription and I am anxious for all the aforementioned reason. I would have loved to discuss the alternatives with the Dr., but I can't get past the nurses. I have read that there are many possible natural alternatives that I can try. Still, I have spent over $1,200 and never had a discussion with the Dr. At least not one I was aware of.
I have been taking ranitidine for a few years now when I'm off my diet with no adverse side effects. I have taken the omeprazole with success, but stopped because I do not need a proton pump inhibitor, but rather an antacid when I have gluten in my system.
Not really a question but my observations on omeprazole. I have been on this drug for some years now. It all started with burping and sore stomach etc. i was sent for an endoscopy and they showed me a picture of my stomach which was rather inflamed.
No, long term use of omeprazole is not safe at all. It blocks the secretion of your stomach acid, and stomach acid has multiple functions in your body, none of which are working properly after omeprazole kicks in.
He prescribed omeprazole 40mg and I have not had any symptoms until this week. I want off the drug so I am watching what I eat, no late eating, losing weight, etc. It looks as if I will have to step up the pace a good bit. I am going to continue the omeprazole for a few months but was wondering if there is a particular optimum time to take the drug?
if reg meds do not help, have u had a PH test to make sure u have excess acid and not low acid, as the symptoms and how u feel will be similar and only this testing can help u decide, if u have low acid and take meds to decrease acids u will feel worse. So do look at the testing.
Oh and this doc put me on prilosec/omeprazole ( he shook his head at Pepcid and took me off it). Just took it hours ago and not sure if it is working or not (this issue goes back and forth, I feel the same way right now). BTW: anyone else feel burning/tightness in chest, neck, head and eyes from Acid Reflux as I am? HELPPPPP---> PLEEEEEAAAASE!!!
Started off on omeprazole after endoscooy then inxe symptoms stopped would ease myself off them only for symptoms to come back at some point every year and so back on the meds. Last year i got some bad symotoms start up and was fed up with popping pills so tried dgl licorice with aloe vera juice instead. worked a little but not entirely so went to doc and had another endoscopy (which came back all clear of any nastys). doc stuck me on zantac this time and seemed to clear up.
I have recently seen a number of claims that the problem is not actually excess acid but not enough stomach acid. PPI's inhibit the production of acid but this actually only addresses the symptom rather than causes such as H Pylori This seems very consistent with my experience and I was wondering if anybody had any views on this. if it is the case and PPI's are actually making the problem worse then there really needs to be some advice on this to suffers.
I am taking the same drug u are taking omeprazole, and I cannot tell if it is working, since I am taking so much other drugs. I also take drugs for depression. Can you help me I currently have pain 2 to 4 inches above my belly button and down the rest of my abdomen?
She wants me to start IV Rifampin as soon as possible because my brain stuff is getting worse or at least not getting better. This, with the addition of the lesions found on the MRI are her reasoning. Another reason is because the longer we wait to do the IV antibiotics, the less chance there is of the insurance company approving it. This leads to a couple of issues... First, the idea of getting a Picc line scares the bejeebers outta me. Seriously.
I have been going mad as I have not been able to find out what it wrong with me, I also have not been told if I have got IBS or Crohn's Disease either so its doubly frustrating. For the past week or so I have not been feeling great, I have not been eating, I have hardly eaten anything at all actually, I am weak and feeling constantly tired and dizzy too. I wish there was an answer for what is wrong with me, I am tired of being taken into hospital with pain in my abdomen...
took 20 mg omeprazole in the morning before breakfast. Ate 3 slices of white bread for breakfast. No heartburn, no nausea. At noon, ate salad w/ very little Raspberry Vinaigraitte dressing. The salad had lettuce, crackers, eggs, soft whit tofu, and carrott. at 3pm, mild heartburn and mild nausea. Gone by 4.30pm. The hearburn and nausea came back at around 5.45pm. Drank 1 cup of green tea throughout the day.
I have a sensation of 'butterflys' in my stomach tonight, happened once I had eaten supper. I'm worried omeprazole is not for me, any suggestions would be most welcome.
Maybe, or maybe the omeprazole has stopped working properly. (This is common.) You should go see a gastroenterologist about this and tell them that you're either refluxing or regurgitating and having breathing problems due to this.
Dear sir/Mam I would like ask about my acidity problem in stomach, my stomach is prodcuing too much acid, that produce lot of heat in my stomach which also goes on brain, and that time my working performance decreases i have tried medecinces and did precations but seems nothing working please help me in this regard
I ran out of of my prescription two weeks ago and had to use el cheapo store brand omeprazole. I got my prescription omeprazole three days ago. It might just be taking a while to start working I hope. I go to the doctor on the 26th to see how I'm doing. I'd like to see him right now, but he is away (where to?). He is always away! My first appointment way back on July 18 was originally for July 8, but he had jury duty (or so he says).
Still working on healing my reflux. I am getting a sharp pain under my left rib, short of breath, and golf ball in my chest. Dr. said it could take 8 weeks, but I will get better. Hope he's right. I have a mild fever just about every day which makes me think there is an infection. Humm..

Three weeks ago I went on pantoprazole 40mg, twice a day. I have not felt any better; in fact, sometimes I feel worse. I had been on omeprazole, and that did nothing. Has anyone been on pantoprazole, and if so, what were the results? I have both a hiatal hernia and gerd.
Glad the Zantac is working for you! Hopefully it will continue. if it quits working then switch off of the H2 Antagonist drugs (zantac, pepcid etc) and go to the PPI (omeprazole etc) as they are much stronger and instead of reducing stomach acid they turn it off altogether.
but havent as much at all in the last month due to my pains. i am now currently doing another 14 day otc of omeprazole...it is currently only day 4 but it doesnt seem to be working..also can these symptoms be side effects of the medicine?
I have a hospice pt with small bowel obstruction who has GERD and vomiting. Gastroenterologist says don't give Maalox or Mylanta; omeprazole is not working. what are your suggestions?
i want to know about his disease called giardia lamblia cause my girlfriend is caught by that she is originally from , germany and since one month she is having this. she is taking medicine against it also but the are not working .she took ocid QRS,levocide and anoitiviotic also so please help me for making my girl friend well and i dont want her being sick i love her so much . please give some solution for that. thank you !
Heartburn is keeping me up. All I have at home is tums which had been working great but just aren't cutting it. what medicine do you ladies find most effective?
When you say that Prilosec didn't work out but you are on omeprazole? It's the same medicine--omeprazole is the generic. if Aciphex works and doesn't cause side effects, that might be a solution unless something else is going on. I'd alert my primary care doctor and let him/her work on this with you.
