Avatar m tn I have been on 20mg Losec (omeprazole) for many years and recently had a stomach scope that showed I had more than 50 (they stop counting after 50) Fundic gland polyps. Research tells me these polyps are the result of extended use of Losec. A biopsy was done of one and showed it was not cancerous and the doctor told me it is not a great cause for concern but that I should have regular scopes. Nevertheless I do worry. Is there an alternative to Losec that will not cause this problem?
2065896 tn?1373685384 In reply to how long can you take it. I have been taking it for 12 years and it still works and no side effects. I produce more acid than normal and still get the acid gpoing into my lungs if I eat too late at night so 5 years ago my lung specialist changed the dose to one in the morning and two at night and it made a big difference.
1364792 tn?1278051187 AstraZeneca markets omeprazole as Losec, Antra, Gastroloc, Mopral, Omepral, and Prilosec. Omeprazole is marketed as Zegerid by Santarus, Prilosec OTC. The side affects mentioned in the above post can happen after long term use.......the absorption issues can become an issue and u should take ur meds at alternate times to avoid one cancelling out the others...so take ur Gerd meds in the AM and ur supplements at night....
Avatar m tn I went to my doctor who recommended I try Losec. She suggested that the sudden onset of the reflux could have been the result of stress. I have now been on 20mg of Losec for 4 days and my symptoms have disappeared. My doctor suggested trying the Losec for 1 – 2 months, then weaning off of it by taking the pill every other day and seeing how I feel.
709686 tn?1277432159 I understand that we all can experience different side effects to certain meds but was hoping someone could tell me what, if any, side effects they experienced while taking Prilosec or Zegerid. Both meds are basically Omeprazole. I also noticed that, in my opinion, my doctor had me on WAY TOO MUCH. I was prescribed 40mg twice a day..EVERY DAY! I've seen that the most common script is written for 20mg a day for two weeks.
Avatar m tn Does anyone suffer from bloating after taking losec/omeprazole, am taking 1 twice a day (20mg each)?
Avatar f tn I recently had an endoscopy and the results showed that I have very mild esophogitis and normal stiomach although the biopsies showed minimal gastritis! This started two months ago. I was first put on omeprazole 20mg twice a day because I started off with nausea! It helped but then came back with a vengeance. My doc then put me on Protonix 40 mg twice a day. The problem is I have not been able to eat anything and have been on a liquid diet for almost 2 months now!
Avatar f tn actually I've tried omeprazole, pervacid, losec, stayed away from spicy foods, colas, altho' I must admit I cant stay away from coffee -just a small amount at the tip of the spoon- in the morning. I was also wondering why the ENT prescribed motilium, the explanation is to manage my digestion so that the acid that will be produced in the stomach finds its way down.but i guess you are right I've to back to GI specialist.
Avatar n tn It started last September with a deep ache in the lower back, pains when swallowing near the orifice of the stomache and a general sense of feebleness. The doctors prescribed Losec which helped against the swallowing and reduced the other pains aswell. A month later the nausea started, at first she believed it was food poisoning. When it didn't go away tests were performed to see if it was a hiatus hernia which it didn't seem to be.
Avatar m tn This time i took the Losec once day, everyday morning. The Losec seems to help to relieve my burning sensation 6) July, Losec finished, went back to the doctor again. The doctor gave me 60 days of Losec this time, and sent me for a H Pylori test. 7) Sometimes this month, the sore throat started. 8) Early August, result comes back, and I was H Pylori positive. I was then given a week of treatment. Problem didn't go away even after.
Avatar f tn I see you are also on prilosec ( presuming it's the same as losec ) and are suffering from constipation and gas issues. Does this make you abdomin area feel heavy, tense or slightly bloated as well. As in my other post do you think it vould be a side effect from the losec? Another thing that I have learnt is that decaf coffee is also very acidic. You might have to go to a herbal tea that is completely caffiene and acid free instead. But not peppermint apparently.
Avatar m tn Just wondering, this morning i had some brown/yellow stool, more yellow, consistancy of toothpaste. I do have acid reflux, i take losec for it. I re-started taking losec yesterday, however lastnight i did have chinese food and took a b100. Would that be what caused the yellow stool.
2136621 tn?1355121987 So My little girl has been prescribed Losec for her reflux and hiatis hernia...(10mg a day) Is anyone on this medication for acid reflux and please tell me this is the stuff that will be like her "miracle cure". And that it would stop the chronic nausea. Answers will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I had first Taxol 9 days ago. Had funny, random feeling in abdomen during infusion, but no pain. Along with extreme leg pain 3rd night after inf I developed sharp, shooting pains across my lower abdomen, hip-bone to hip bone, and stinging, painful "spasms" near my tailbone/anus. Next day Loritabs resolved most of the pain and was tolerable w/out pain meds by day 6, but made me constipated again. I'm still somewhat bloated and don't feel quite right.
Avatar n tn Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine. [both drugs are calcineurin inhibitors] * omeprazole (Losec, Prilosec) * oxycodone (Oxycodone is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, specifically CYP3A4, of which the bergamottin flavonoid is a strong inhibitor) * hydrocodone (The hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6 converts it into hydromorphone, a more potent opioid.
514510 tn?1272718736 i have acid rising into my throat when i sleep, and raising my bed a bit has helped, i also take 20mg of omeprazole (losec) up to twice a day, which also helps. i hope this is helpful.
Avatar m tn From there I went to see my doctor who put me on 20mg of Losec / day. I did that for a week and felt great! I decided to taper off the drug. Almost immediately the acid returned – with a vengeance! It seemed to be worse than ever. The doctor told me to go back on the meds for a minimum of 2 months straight. He upped my dose to 40mg / day and suggested supplementing with Gaviscon when I noticed symptoms. It’s been 6 weeks now since I’ve been on the double dose of Losec.
Avatar m tn I have been taking long term Losec 10mg once a week, and it works. But is it safe enough? I've tried to stop it, or reduce the dose, but it doesn't work, as I start having the reflux symptoms. Even within the week I may have once-in-a-while reflux, and then I take an H2 blocker. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Was your Rouen y surgery for weight loss purposes or for correction of bile duct problem?
Avatar m tn A few weeks ago I was diagnosed by my doctor as having acid reflux. She recommended 20mg of Losec daily for one month and then to attempt to taper off the medication by taking it every other day when I started to feel better (she recommended trying after 1 month). After a week on the medication I felt great, had no symptoms and decided to taper off. The first day off was fine, but the next day was terrible and my reflux returned.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
