Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?

Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.

Avatar n tn I was reading through the studies found in the internet. I got scared of the others saying you should only take omeprazole if it outweighs the risks.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar f tn Last ten days with omeprazole I get some headaches and sometimes I feel white bubbles in urine like calcium. Yesterday I drink little green tea and it made my chest horrible.
Avatar m tn However, today, noticed that I had what appeared to be blood in toilet and and upon wiping, bright red paper. Earlier in day, noticed slight pain on my left side below rib cage and later noticed I was gasey and burping a lot. 142841 tn?1201975052 I was very worried about life without Omeprazole, but I am in week 5 of treatment and have been able to manage without it. The RIBA makes it worse. GERD can be miserable for sure, best of luck.
Avatar n tn Sarah, 19 years old, was having gas in the stomach and flatulance. Doctor presribed her omeprazole 20mg which she took that night and the next morning. The next day she noticed her stool was white and eyes slight yellow - sign of jaundice! I'm not sure if it was caused by omeprazol or otherwise.
Avatar m tn I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.

Avatar m tn My doctor says I have esophagitis, and prescribed for me 20 mg omeprazole for 4 weeks. I am taking it now for 6 days and don't see any improvement yet. The drug reviews say it usually takes up to 4 days to feel better. Is this the case, or may it take longer time to see results? Thanks.

568812 tn?1379165794 Hi i am on 40mg of Omeprazole for acid reflux. Has anyone here had side effects from it like loose stools? For the past two weeks or so my bowel movements have been rather odd...loose in the morning but ok towards the end of the day...no blood, but causing soreness around my anus afterwards....
Avatar m tn Last month my gastro doctor upgraded my omeprazole from 20mg to 40mg - mainly because my insurance company doesn't cover omeprazole 20mg anymore because it is available over the counter. So I have been taking 40mg once a day for about a month. Lately my stomach has been feeling a little queasy with bloated gas. I'm wondering if I'm getting too much omeprazole and may have too little acid.
Avatar f tn Omeprazole base is the active form. In prilosec OTC, it is given in the form of omeprazole magnesium. In the body it gets converted in to omeprazole base before it starts acting. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. Avatar f tn I have had issues with heartburn for years now, and it turns out that I have an excess amount of acid in my stomach and that my stomach is inflamed. I was prescribed 40mg Omeprazole, but bought the 20mg Omeprazole over the counter and have been taking 2 each morning instead. It ha been 3 days (and three doses) and I have had EXTREME severe diarrhea. My stomach is nonstop gurgling, I can't keep anything down, and I am constantly in and out of the bathroom even throughout the night.
Avatar m tn I'm being placed on 20mg omeprazole to see if some random chest pains and PVCs are related to acid reflux. It doesn't feel like acid reflux to me, but they want to try this. I've seen online that Hahismoto's patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted.
