Omeprazole generic name

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole generic name

prilosec

Avatar m tn ve seen comments with all kinds of opinions comparing the effectiveness of different forms of Prilosec (generic name omeprazole). But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec.
Avatar m tn Perhaps your son has allergies to foods with acids? Both orange juice and spicy foods have lots of acid content. You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings.
Avatar m tn You might find the generic, OTC, omeprazole to be less expensive.
926651 tn?1244140366 Not everyone can take Toprol XL. Most likely this is a side effect of the Tropol. Are you taking the generic or brand name? Brand name is always better with heart medications. There are other beta blockers such as "Coreg".
Avatar f tn s what I started taking 4 wks ago because tums would no longer help. The medication your on is the generic form of a name brand OTC meds (I can't remember which one right now). I asked me doctor if that was ok, since my husband takes it too. My doc said it was ok. I would still check, I'm 38wks, and it may be different for different stages of pregnancy and I don't know your dosage. Maybe call your OB and ask. Good luck!! And heartburn is a B!!
Avatar f tn As the dr suggested, you could try an OTC antihistamine to start with (they are cheaper). I would recommend Zyrtec (or its generic). Afrin is the original name brand for oxymetazoline. Never use it for longer than 3 days at a time and then off for three days. You can rotate if needed. There are a number of other meds a dr can prescribe to help control your symptoms if you really suspect allergies to be the cause.
Avatar f tn I take omeprazole and it works wonderful!! and its generic so not that expensive at all. I used to take protonix and it worked just as well as the omeprazole.. good luck!
6778631 tn?1396407123 I am on omeprazole as it's the only thing that works for me. Have had acid reflux from the very start, not nice at all!
9487829 tn?1404261279 My heartburn got to be a daily problem for me and my Dr prescribed Prilosec (Omeprazole generic name) and it works for me!
Avatar f tn Until two days ago, I had been taking Prilosec OTC, 40 mgs. daily. I'm now taking the generic Omeprazole capsules, prescription. I switched to the generic version because it's covered by my insurance and it's a lot cheaper. I was told both meds were the same. However, after taking the generic Omep. capsules, I got bad side effects. I've never had any side effects from the Prilosec OTC. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant difference in the two.
1364792 tn?1278051187 It was first marketed in the US in 1989 by AstraZeneca under the brand names Losec and Prilosec, and is now also available from generic manufacturers under various brand names. AstraZeneca markets omeprazole as Losec, Antra, Gastroloc, Mopral, Omepral, and Prilosec. Omeprazole is marketed as Zegerid by Santarus, Prilosec OTC. The side affects mentioned in the above post can happen after long term use.......
Avatar m tn If you are taking a PPI such as prilosec or the generic omeprazole, peopl ehave reported the high BP as a side effect. I took 40mg omeprazole for 3 weeks and it elevated my BP.
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
Avatar m tn I had been having acid reflux for a few weeks, and last week I woke up after rolling over on my stomach during the night with acid burning my esophagus. A doctor perscribed me Nexium, but since my insurance wouldn't cover it, I started taking over the counter Omeprazole instead. The very next day I woke up with stomach pain and cramps at around the same time I had the acid reflux the previous night.
Avatar f tn After having a throat infection for 13 years (Lingual Tonsillitis which has irritated the hyoid bone), I found an ENT who diagnosed me and put me on a few medications to bring down the inflammation. I was put on Prednisone for 14 days, Augmentin and generic Prilosec/omeprazole 20mg. As of a week ago wed the inflammation was down 75% and I was feeling much better after being sick for so long.
568812 tn?1379165794 Hi i am on 40mg of Omeprazole for acid reflux. Has anyone here had side effects from it like loose stools? For the past two weeks or so my bowel movements have been rather odd...loose in the morning but ok towards the end of the day...no blood, but causing soreness around my anus afterwards....
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40mg Omeprazole for a year now for a stomach ulcer and because I also take celebrex 200mg for osteoarthritis I also have diverticulitis/ diverticulosis and had 30 polyps removed from my colon dec.
Avatar f tn HI....Omeprazole is Prilosec...it is the same thing...just a generic name, but the same med. If ur mom feels worse, it could be 1 of a few things....she possibly did not need the meds as she may have a condition called hypochlorhydria which is too little stomach acid....the symptoms r very similar as when u have too much acid. One other issue could be the fact she just stopped taking the meds...she should really step off of them slowly to avoid rebound effect...
Avatar m tn Losec or OMEPRAZOLE is what I am taking now and yes it works fine.I was told by the pharmasist thst it is a generic of prilosec. Ask ur dr on the dosage u need....the instructions on the box r to take for a period of time and stop.....but ur dr may tell u something different. If I stop for one day I can tell, so do ask ur dr what meds r right for u and what dosage to take and how.
Avatar m tn I was having panic attacks which caused me to have a little bit of acid reflux one time so my doctor prescribed me a generic form of omeprazole to take twice daily 20mg 2x a day, I took it for over 2 months, and within the 2 months my anxiety and panic got worse to the point where when I would try to eat my heart would race and put me in a panic attack. This drug seemed to have increased my anxiety/panic attacks.
Avatar m tn While GERD could cause a few symptoms you describe it's unlikely it's causing the shaky, anxious, sweaty feelings. A reaction to meds can however including an allergic response that mimics panic attacks or heart problems. When you say that Prilosec didn't work out but you are on omeprazole? It's the same medicine--omeprazole is the generic. If Aciphex works and doesn't cause side effects, that might be a solution unless something else is going on.
Avatar f tn what is a generic drug?
Avatar n tn 0 down to 0.
Avatar f tn Yes it's totally legal. If you want more information there's a guy on the internet who outlines the process, whether you travel abroad or order online. He actually wrote a book and started a blog on it. He also started a buyer's club but no need to go that route. His name is Greg Jefferys, google his name for more information.
Avatar f tn For the moment, see if your doc will allow you to use generic Omeprazole (aka, Prilosec OTC). While there are better things out there, it might work as a stop gap measure that's not as extreme as Reglan. Good luck.
