Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
1364792 tn?1278051187 Omeprazole is an H2 blocker. It is helpful, but not the big guns for acid reflux that could be harmful. Omeprazole is available OTC. Some H2 blockers are also used as supplement antihistamines for people who have a hard time controlling allergies. OH, not acid reflux presents with the typical heart burn symptoms. Some people reflux higher and it does burn the esophagus in that way. Feel better.

Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar f tn I was willing to pay $200 a month. I was denied for an INNOCENT heart murmur. Thanks to my acid reflux problems my doctor sent me to have an echo and that's what they found. And now I am getting denied health insurance. This is ridiculous!!
Avatar n tn I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.
Avatar n tn Almost everything I eat causes me to have acid reflux I've taken tums drunk milk drinking lots of water and nothing helps I'm 39 weeks+3 don't know what else to do?
Avatar n tn i agree dont give baby meds especialy for adults u could try feeding the baby less more often like a cpl oz every 3 to 4 hrs that way she can take thime to digest and a full belly can cause spitting up cause of pressure on the diafram also make sure the baby is sitting up a little while eating not laying flat and a diff nipple for the bottle may help my nephew spit up every time he ate for a while untill we got the bottle and nipple right
Avatar n tn I have been taking omeprazole for 4 years and it has worked great for my acid reflux problem. In March of 2013, very quickly I developed severe itchy skin. Here it is January 2014 and I am pretty sure I have one of the possible side affects of taking omeprazole, severe itchy skin. Twice in the last month I stopped taking it for a few days and believe I even had a withdrawal side affect. This was when I was just falling to sleep it felt like I could not breath.
Avatar m tn My doctor says I have esophagitis, and prescribed for me 20 mg omeprazole for 4 weeks. I am taking it now for 6 days and don't see any improvement yet. The drug reviews say it usually takes up to 4 days to feel better. Is this the case, or may it take longer time to see results? Thanks.
449683 tn?1211440372 Hi, did you took treatment for GERD i.e gastroesophageal reflux. In this condition acid reflux back in food pipe and irritates throat causing chronic cough. Drugs like omeprazole, pantoprazole etc are prescribed for 4- 6 weeks. Other rare possibility is round worm infestation, commonly seen in developing world. Thsi condition is diagnosed by stool test and drugs like albendazole are prescribed (single dose suffcient).

Avatar m tn I am now on week six so this has dramatically changed my social life and I am now on 20mg of omeprazole. For the first month it started ok. I cut Alcohol, spicy food, all fizzy drinks, orange juice. Now I'm faced with crippling stomach pain, the belching is back and as worse as when I used to drink. I throw up bright yellow acidic sick and have diarohea frequently. I have to wait 2 weeks till my GP appointment. I'm still taking omeprazole, I'm exhausted and I need help.
Avatar f tn I started taking omeprazole. Took it for 1 month. The MINUTE I stopped it was right back where I started. Long story short, after searching the internet, I started eating 1/4-1/2 of and apple (just the sweet types, not tart) a couple of hours before bed. The next morning I woke up with no heartburn!! I do this every evening. If it's not convenient, or I'm just not in the mood I have a little applesauce. Also, I switch up with 1 1/2 teaspoons of Raw, Organic, Unfiltered honey.
Avatar f tn I had no problems in months of February through May. Is it possible for my reflux to come back because i was not taking omeprazole in those months? I started taking it again on June 14th (doctors orders). I just find it weird that it just all the sudden came back. Has anyone experienced any of this before?
Avatar m tn Reflux pain irritates the same nerve bundle that is involved in cardiac pain so the symptoms are the same. I've heard it said that nitro will make reflux pain stop.
Avatar f tn I was recently tested (blood drawn) for celiac and I had been on daily omeprazole for 9 months. My test came back negative, but my doc never mentioned stopping omeprazole. of course my doc also 'forgot' that she prescribed omeprazole for me in the first place and tried to prescribe it again.
Avatar m tn Last month my gastro doctor upgraded my omeprazole from 20mg to 40mg - mainly because my insurance company doesn't cover omeprazole 20mg anymore because it is available over the counter. So I have been taking 40mg once a day for about a month. Lately my stomach has been feeling a little queasy with bloated gas. I'm wondering if I'm getting too much omeprazole and may have too little acid.
Avatar m tn I told my doctor and he recommended to try omeprazole (40 mg) for 30 days. I do not think that I have acid reflux, because my throat or esophagus does not hurt and there is no heart burn. All the pain is in the lower stomach. By stretching, or taking off elastic from undergarment, I can get relief from the pain. I thought the omeprazole was working, until recently when I had Taco Bell and my stomach hurt again. Doctor also said I could be lactose intolerant, but it is not set off by milk...
Avatar n tn May 2012: I had problems with acid reflux; I was not able to eat for three days and was not able to swallow food properly through oesophagus. Then I was injected omeprazole (around 6 bottles) over two days in a hospital in India and it started getting better after that. November 2012: I again had the same problem with oesophagus and acid reflux. The doctor in Germany prescribed me Omeprazole 40 mg. Acid reflux problem went away but oesophagus was still the same.
Avatar m tn Perhaps I have less acid reflux now, but gosh just acid reflux is controlled not the whole reflux thing. Non-acid reflux might be causing this too, possible?
Avatar f tn I have been treated for silent reflux by taking 40 mg of omeprazole 45 minutes before supper for last four months. I have just started tapering down to 20mg. I also take acebutolol for premature heart beats 200mg 2x a day. My husband swears by unsulphured black strap molasses for his reflux and arthritis in his hands. I would love to try it but I have read foods rich in potassium are to be avoided with beta blockers. Blackstrap is rich in potassium and iron. I have also considered DGL tablets.
