Avatar f tn Omeprazole lowers stomach acid essential for absorption of nutrients. The number of nutrient deficiencies that list fatigue as a symptom are numerous but include iron, vitamin B12, and magnesium. The newest warning out for PPI's like omeprazole is magnesium deficiency. Studies found deficiency within 1 year of taking the drug however a few showed deficiency within 3 months.
757597 tn?1315801812 An iron-loading test was performed on one of the patients and indicated iron malabsorption. Within two months after discontinuation of omeprazole, notable improvements in hemoglobin level and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were observed in both patients, and iron absorption was significantly increased in the patient who underwent absorption testing.
Avatar f tn The first few things to be ruled out are iron, vitamin C and B12 deficiency. Then it can be an allergic reaction to something you eat or your tooth paste. It can also be acid blisters due to a bad gastric reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn Then every 6 months you should get a TIBC, percent Iron saturation and Iron level and a CBC. But I would see another hematologist as this one isn't good. I hesitate to tell you to take a certain amount of iron without a doctors supervision. It is good if you can get to the root of the problem. I was iron deficient too and it took months to get the iron back in my bone marrow. I assume you are extremely tired. The B12 will not help with iron deficiency.
Avatar m tn s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted. Does anyone have experience with taking this?
Avatar f tn So I’ve had a fair amount of blood work done in the process finding out of a rather severe vitamin D deficiency, B 12 deficiency, iron as well is deficient etc. The reason I start out in the Gastro area is because I’ve been on omeprazole for about seven years. Every time I try and cut back, using Tumms as well as OTC anti acid It’s not working. I’m having horrendous heartburn. And then I just give up and take my omeprazole so at least I can get comfortable.
Avatar n tn Yes, it is possible that you have stomatitis, iron deficiency, Vit B deficiency or gastric reflux. All can cause white patches or even ulcers in mouth. Take a multivitamin pill with B complex and iron and see if it helps. You can also take antacids and Omeprazole if you have reflux. Since you are having bruising, it can become serious, and hence talk to your treating doctor about dose adjustment.
Avatar n tn If you are in grade 11 and studying in school, really your parents should be taking care of you and your diet! For your iron deficiency you need to eat plenty of dark green vegetables. The best thing for it is liver (lambsfry), although it is an acquired taste and many people don't like it. Anaemia - iron deficiency - can definitely cause lethargy, a pale complexion etc. I think the problem may go deeper than just diet and I think you should see a doctor.
Avatar m tn Got the results today and Im anemic, the iron deficent one. I was anemic aswell about 3 yrs ago. Im on Galfer FA tablets. They worked before so I hope they do this time to.. Hoping the anxiety will go away shortly now. I had the implanon contraception in for 2 yrs which messed round with my periods etc.I think this is all linked! If nothing has worked for you try Galfer FA! If your feeling better let me no cos I tink im goin mad now!
Avatar f tn I dont eat red meat and so I have low iron. My doctor prescribed me iron tablets and ive been eating plenty of spinach and broccoli. My baby is actually measuring bigger than the average 32 week baby so providing your iron levels aren't too low, your baby shouldn't be developing slower.
Avatar f tn Some people also just have certain medical problems that can cause a problem absorbing iron. And as I said, most iron supplements are not made in a form that is well-absorbed. I would say that if this continues and you're not getting any answers from your child's doctor, it might be time to see a different doctor for another opinion.
Avatar f tn My ferritin levels came back several weeks ago at 10 ug/l (down from 17 last year and after three months of iron therapy. The norm is between 20 and 200). My GP gave me a script for more iron tablets plus some tranexamic acid tablets. I feel like rubbish and I want to be able to push myself harder with my running. Are there things I can do to help replenish my iron stores? I am trying to add more red meat plus have vit. c with that and avoid caffeine either side of a meal.
Avatar f tn hi, for the past week, I've been having headaches and nausea and i went to my doctors and they told me i have below normal iron levels and they gave me supplements. 2 days after taking the supplements my headaches have improved massively but i have been experiencing lightheadedness and the nausea is still there. i was wondering if anyone else had experienced these problems? how long did your lightheadedness last for you to feel your normal self again? i just want to be better!
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing a lot debilitating symptoms but have recieved a diagnosis as of yet. My symptoms are extreme fatigue, lightheaded, difficulty breathing, poor sleep, tingling and poor peripheral circulation, cracks at corners of mouth. I have read about all kinds of nutrient deficiencies and it seems like iron most resembles my symptoms. However my blood count came back "normal". I have not had my serum iron or ferritin checked yet but my B vitamins came out normal.
Avatar n tn You need to supplement immediately. The iron count is probably your ferritin levels which is your iron storage. Your haemoglobin is normal because that's what's circulating in your blood because it's taken from your stores. Your count is very low. It depends on what lab did your test but the last one I had here gave normal levels as between 30-200 (not sure of the units). Mine were 35 but although they looked normal I felt ****.
Avatar n tn my son who is 2 years was diagnosed with a iron deficiency 4 months ago, he is currently taking a iron supplement and I have changed his diet but he seems to be getting weaker by the day. his skin is really pale he does not want to play and want to be carried all the time. any advise on this?
Avatar n tn If you can't stand to take iron, eat iron-rich foods. But if you don't mind your iron supplements, begin to take them now. You will need the iron when you are breast-feeding, and you can use it now also.
Avatar m tn All your symptoms can be due to iron deficiency and associated Vitamin C or B deficiency. You must find the cause of your anemia. Do consult your physician regarding this. Iron tablets, capsules and syrups are freely available in the market. For people who cannot tolerate oral iron, injectable iron preparations are there. Here is a link for you to go through for a complete list of iron rich food. http://www.loveyourbaby.com/iron-rich-food-list.html Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed about one week ago with iron deficiency anemia and started on iron supplements. Today when I went in not feeling well and to see about some more recent labs the doctor told me I have an overactive thyroid. He is sending me for tests on that next week to include a sonogram and scan.
Avatar f tn Hello guys and gals. I posted here a while back, but I have a new question, thus new post. I ask that anyone reading, please read the whole thing, as I usually do give as much information as possible. I finally got to see a new endocrinologist, he seems to be okay. He had me tested for vitamin d, both hashimoto's antibodies.
Avatar n tn As an adult I have experienced years of non-specific symptoms that could be associated with Iron Deficiency, such as fatigue, tingling/numbness in my legs and feet, easy bruising, depression, and sleep disturbances. Within the last few months I have experienced the above symptoms with the addition of hair loss and shortness of breath*. Some years ago I found out I have Hemoglobin E trait, which I know is almost always asymptomatic.
Avatar f tn When doing some reading it came up that a vitamin b-12 defiency (leading to anemia) can be caused by taking omeprazole long term... I have taken omeprazole 20mg 1x a day for over a year as a preventative measure since I take so much indomethacin (I don't have GERD) So.... could I be vitamin b-12 deficient due to taking omeprazole?? I also read that b-12 deficiencies can cause canker sores... which I have begun to have again (I haven't had one for four years) Anyways...
Avatar f tn You need to find out what type of anemia you have and then they can give you a B12 shot or Iron or whichever problem is happening.I had iron deficiency anemia and I was exhausted. It takes time to get your iron level back up so be patient. Also, once it is normal that doesn't mean you can quit iron. It will go back down either until the problem is fixed or in my case I have to take it all my life for some reason. One doctor took me off of Iron and about 6 months later I was low again.
Avatar m tn Myalgias and arthralgias are known but rare side-effects.
