Omeprazole and gas

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole and gas

prilosec

If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole. Otherwise, it is okay to keep using it until your symptoms are under control. Have you tried modifying your diet to cut back on symptoms?
Sarah, 19 years old, was having gas in the stomach and flatulance. Doctor presribed her omeprazole 20mg which she took that night and the next morning. The next day she noticed her stool was white and eyes slight yellow - sign of jaundice! I'm not sure if it was caused by omeprazol or otherwise.
Stopped medicine and problems disappeared. Started Omeprazole again and the problems came back. I had tried the others, like Prilosec, and they caused me even more problems, and right away too. I have diverticulitis and get headaches when I eat things like peanuts, etc. Am allergic to penicillin(hospitalized for reaction), some anti-biotics and some anti-inflammatory drugs. Develop aches, rashes, etc. Eg: Aleve makes my lips break out in blisters. Ibuprofen hurts my stomach bad.
Hi...gas, indigestion is usually y someone is on this / these meds...may I ask y u r on it if u just got the symptoms from the meds? If u have what u feel is a side effect from a med, call ur dr ASAP and let him decide if u need to be on a diff med.

I have experienced painful gas, constipation, loss of appetite and have lost 10lbs in the past month and have not changed my diet in any way. My gums have been extremely sore for the past month which makes it extremely difficult to eat anything solid. My sinuses are throbing and I am now getting headaches. What about you?
I am reading a lot on the subject, experimenting with diet and relaxation and the occasional spoonful of Maalox. I relate to the person who said they felt fine until after the endoscopy. I never had this globus feeling in my throat before, and now it is there all the time, no matter what or when I eat or don't eat. THAT is stressful!
and prescribed me a generic brand of prilosec called omeprazole. He told me to take 2 pills a day i think each pill is 20 mg, and he wanted me to take it for 6 months! I ended up taking them for 2 months, and i didnt notice any improvement towards my panic attacks or anything, instead i actually had MORE side effects like headaches, hair loss, stomach pain, loss of appetite and fast heartbeat.
The very next day I woke up with stomach pain and cramps at around the same time I had the acid reflux the previous night. I haven't really had that again since then, but I've been having gas, bloating, and chest pain. I had similar symptoms previously when taking Omeprazole.
Have you looked at the signs and symptoms of GERD or GORD. This is chronic reflux which causes heatburn and gas. Increased stomach acid after eating exacerbates symptoms as does the sleeping position. Usually the GP will prescribe PPI's like Omeprazole. If you aint happy taking meds, try some lifestyle changes. Google GERD and GORD though and you'll get some good info.
GI doc here put me on 40mg of Omeprazole twice a day, I cut it down to once a day and didn't like the way I was feeling and think it aggravated the nausea. I now use Gas-X 3-4 times a day, ginger tea and Pepto Bismol when I need to. Nexium now has new warnings out. I reported to the FDA and other people must have too. i already took psillium fiber, oatmeal, etc to no avail. i have gas and pass wind almost all the time nonstop. i have tried pankreoflat, motilium, mucosta and omeprazole meds. i've had endoscopy which revealed non too harmful cases such as gastritis. but the symptoms are persisting and it's hitting my confidence level and limiting what i can do at work due to embarrassment. need advice.
Their all about the same they just give me a little extra time until I have to eat or I will get real sick until I do and after eating or drinking certain thing can cause gas pains and other times im fine and can eat/drink whatever I want. I have had 2 upper endoscopys they just say my stomach produces to much acid. Im mainly just needing something to help control the gas pains or keep it from happening before it happens. My parents think I have something my grandpa use to have.
It could be gas, polycystic ovary, muscle pull, nerve impingement, kidney stone or even infection of the gut. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. If it does not help, consult a doctor. Take care!
I am experiencing involuntary gas release. I will feel little gas bubbles in my anus and they release themselves and I have no waring or control over them. I lost my job because of this. I can’t go to any restaurant or social gathering. I live secluded. This has officially ruined my life. I’m a single mother with two children. It has become very difficult to make a living to support my family. Life has become such a task.

It inflates so much that it reaches the point that it start pushing my lungs. and I can't breath or even talk. I took anti-gas, anti-acid and peptobismol. First time it occurred I went to doctor, by the time I got to doctor, the bloating and pain was gone. Yesterday was more sever and more painful it was about 3 AM so I knew it was going to pass but it took me about 2 hours of excruciating pain the shortness of breath was so bad I could not even talk..
The strangest symptons though are just constant vibrations or movements in my intestinal area, bad heart burn, bad gas, and a feeling like I have to burp but just cant. Im hoping that my heart is fine and the feelings are just from my focusing on it too much, but I just dont know. Can anyone relate to this? Its been 3 months and I cant even sleep anymore.
com and search for omeprazole or prilosec. I was taking 40mg omeprazole for almost 3 weeks and it caused severe anxiety, chest pain, dizziness, tight feeling in my throat, arm and leg weakness, abdominal pain, insomnia, and high BP.I thought I was dying. I stopped taking the omeprazole and after 2 weeks started to feel better but I am not completely symptom free yet. Ask your doctor to try the 10 mg dose first or ask about other options for acid reflux.
I still have found no doc that will even talk to me about gas and pvcs, dizziness, jolts, thumps and twitches. But I KNOW they're related to gas. One thing that's essential to me when I get all these symptoms is to EAT. If I eat I burp a lot and when the gas starts coming up the symptoms subside. Sometimes it takes a long time, but that's how I get rid of them - by eating something hearty like a piece of whole wheat bread with peanut butter.
Most of the time it feels like I cant’ breath, like someone has there hands around my throat, which makes everything in life hard. I have seen numerous doctors and specialists, and have gone through almost every possible procedure to try to render a concrete diagnosis that has not been found. I have also tried EVERY over the counter medication there is known to man (sometimes in dangerously excessive amounts)!!
Recently after all these years I have been experiencing Bad stomach pain. under my right rib. And in my abdomen, My GP Says its gas. And has prescribed me Omeprazole. I haven't taken these yet, as the side affects look really scary! I'm going to read up on them first on a forum. Read your article, and I'm going to lookk for some charcoal tabs to see if they help me. Also I've been experiencing some pain in my buttock cheeks when sitting. Not sure if this is gas build up.. Thanks.
First it is entirely possible to get afib via gas bloat and other stomach and digestive tract disorders. If your stomach and digestive tract is as described then you must have inflamation. All this inflamation and bloat and gas will push up on your diaphram and surrounding areas and cause great discomfort and pain but also can press upon nerves.

I have also had horrible gas during this time, and burp almost non-stop it seems at times and then at other times I have no gas. I am scared and it just seems like another roadblock has popped up as I have been trying to get better. I also had my annual cardio work-up earlier this year, good results again. Any input into what might be going on is appreciated.
Often it's sticky and hard to clean, which is really frustrating. Often I'll have smelly gas. Sometimes it's hard to push out and there are just small pieces. Maybe once or twice a week, there will be a lot of gas, pain in the abdomen, and then "feathery" diarrhea, in multiple trips, like my body's just dumping out everything. This is pretty unpleasant and painful. Usually there's undigested food particles when this happens. No red or black.
It sounds to me like something inflammatory as it has been known to come and go. Its like he has flair ups. Celiac disease causes alot of his symptoms like gas, bloating and such and Chrohns flairs up often and causes weight loss and flu like symptoms. Call for an appointment. He doesn't want to let this go without seeing a gastroenterologist. Good luck and please let me know what you find out!
Hi, i was wondering if trapped gas can cause chest soreness, chest tightness, shortness of breath, stabbing pain which is severe enough to think you are having a serious heart problem. and if the answer is yes, how does one go about solving this trapped gas problem? Thanks.
