Avatar f tn I am concerned about calcium absorption and bone loss and would like to wean from it. Is bone loss a legitimate concern? My last bone density showed osteopenia. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/1247834'>Weaning Off Prilosec</a>.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar n tn It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you. My question is: I have at least one bowel movement daily - usually after I get up in the morning. My stools are always loose and certainly smell very bad (so my wife assures me!).
Avatar m tn Anti-inflammatory drugs do not suit everyone and also need to be taken after food or stomach medicines like omeprazole, to help protect the stomach. No doubt you will be offered imaging tests like xrays or other imaging to evaluate your problem and you may be offered a pain relief injection into the area if this was deemed that it could help. Don't suffer - seek help from your doctor or specialist. Best wishes.

Avatar f tn Daily medicine is Omeprazole taken everyday for 3 years and Allegra everday for 2 years. Two years ago I started to have migraines. The first one I had was in the middle of work. It just came on out of nowhere and didn't last long but returned a few minutes later. Which began a cycle of what I thought was cluster headaches. I would get stabbing pains for about a minute or two then a few minutes of relief. This would last for about an hour.
Avatar f tn Appt in clinic for results 7/23. He was quite shocked at my weight loss and general appearance as I have seen him regularly for the past 5 yrs.I had an MRI of my abdomen in Nov 2007, asymptomatic, just general Crohn's monitoring. This showed 2 strictures in my small intestines. No meds or surgery.I am concerned as to the dx - mind in a whirl..... not a Crohn's flare as I have had many of them and I know the symptoms...this is entirely different, as my husband also agrees.
Avatar f tn This is day 4, and I am on 10 mg.of omeprazole. The first two days were terrible, the third fine now the fourth is terrible.
Avatar m tn After a week with no alcohol or Tylenol it went up to 97 a weeks later 170. I then spotted omeprazole for 10 days and it was at 106. I just had a liver ultrasound and everything came back normal. What can the problem be? Can omeprazole cause this?
Avatar f tn The surgery worked best on my lower teeth, slowing down the bone loss significantly and rebuilding bone/tooth connection (that's what the gortex is for. That type of surgery is even more advanced now, I think). It didn't have as much success with my more advanced upper teeth. You have to identify all compromised teeth and undergo aggressive treatment (surgery, root planing..), and then take very good care of your teeth and gums for the rest of your life.
Avatar f tn dentist said I have 50% bone loss. Is there anything else I can do to prevent further bone loss?
Avatar m tn I have lost bone under my bridge and the dentist says I need partials ...is there any way to graft bone and put the bridge back?
Avatar m tn ve had bloods done and came back fine, had 2 ENT cameras and all were fine. Been taking omeprazole 20mg twice daily and Gaviscon after meals for about 2 months but these symptoms have not improved. The pain deep in my throat coming from jugular notch area is quite bad and taking co-codimal helps a little but still the pain persists. At times when i breath in it feels like I'm breathing through the throat pain if that makes senses.
Avatar f tn Over the past 5 years or so I’ve had sudden flare ups where my upper abdomen (below breast bone) hurts terribly and my back (between my shoulder blades/thoracic region) hurts. The flare ups range in duration from 1-2 hours to 24 hours. Post flare up the residual (slightly reduced pain) lingers. The back pain and tightness has been off and on constant for the past year. My GI has done elimination diets, ruled out CIBO, and ruled out ulcer.

Avatar n tn I have been having pains in my neck and under my collar bone on the left side. today I started having pain in my upper (inner) arm and leg on my left side. I have been having heartburn a lot lately for no reason. I am not sure if I am over thinking this or if I should go to the hospital. I don't have the money to waste on the ER if it's nothing possibly.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am in my early twenties and recently had my upper left premolar extracted and replaced with an implant. I know that bone loss can occur when a tooth is extracted, and the implant is supposed to prevent such bone loss from occurring, but will there be any bone loss at all? I am really concerned because I am so young and don't want my facial appearance to change. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn I have periodontitis and consequently have bone loss throughout my mouth. I recently had #15 extracted. Today I went for my one week postoperative checkup. The site had not healed; I am to return in one week. My concern: I don't understand why my dentist didn't do any restorative procedures when he extracted the tooth. He gave me an explaination, but I didn't understand.
709686 tn?1277432159 Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
231441 tn?1333892766 Keep in mind that numerous sources have said that conditions for bone loss are not caused by excessive thyroid levels. If bone loss conditions don't exist, then thyroid levels would have no impact. If bone loss conditions already exist, higher metabolism due to increased thyroid levels may increase the rate of bone loss. Effective treatment should be to address the conditions causing bone loss, not by withholding thyroid meds.
Avatar m tn Thyroid hormone does not cause bone loss, it simply increases metabolism and therefore the rate of the current bone formation or loss. Most older women are losing bone due to their combined sex steroid, DHEA, Vitamin D, and growth hormone deficiencies. The solution is not life-long hypothyroidism, but the correction of their other deficiencies. " http://hormonerestoration.com/files/ThyroidPMD.
Avatar m tn I have been on prilosec, prevacid, nexium and protonix all at one time or other for over 16 yrs on a continual basis- no problems yet- but it can cause osteoporosis- I had a bone scan though and am fine- I was on reglan for over 10 yrs and it did start to give me tardive dyskinesia whih was very scary and I had to get off of it- I still get it even after stopping it at times
Avatar m tn I am 35 yr old male, and recently had strong stomach pain (between chest bone and the navel). I had previous pain history with gaps of months/years .. also I sometimes develop sliva formation in mouth after I eat. This time I had fever which shot up to 105 in just 3 hrs... also fresh blood in stool. Went to emergency and the doc after examining said asked for blood test for H pylori (he mentioned there was no trace of piles etc). The blood test was positive and now I am under triple regimen ..
Avatar n tn If cardiac causes are ruled out then chest pain with dizziness can be due to gastric reflux. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system) if these tips help you.
Avatar m tn Knee ex-rays show I do have medial bone on bone in knees and osteoarthritis (OA). I felt a bit like I had a brain fog so I got checked out for that. One test after another. MRIs and auto immune test. inconclusive but what lead to further test was something in my blood told doctors I could have an auto immune but not which one. Doctors also said my B12 and D6 were way low. I take those vitamin but I don't feel I am adsorbing them.
Avatar n tn My dentist has told me that I have a bite problem an the grinding pressure on my molars has caused bone loss and gum recession. I went to a periodontist a few years ago, and he agreed with the assessment of the bite problem. We discussed braces, but his concern was the the bone loss was such that once moved, the teeth might not set. So we have not done anything other than frequent cleaning, and a night guard.
Avatar f tn The doctor asked me a checklist of questions and said I have gastritis, but did no exams. I was hesitant to take the omeprazole because he did no tests at all. Then on 1/27/17 I was able to get appointment with my GI and she totally dismissed what I said about the gastric pain, and instead focused only on my colon (I suffer from unrelated constipation). So, then on 1/29/17 I went to the ER because the pain was unbearable, they tested for many things, and even did a scan.
Avatar f tn It is important to diagnose the type of hearing loss. Mixed hearing loss is due to both conductive defect and sensory neural defect. The sensory neural defect lies behind the cochlea, which means in the auditory nerve and the passage of signals to the auditory centers in the brain. Conductive hearing loss can be treated by surgery. So if the conductive component is more than the neuro-sensory component, going for a surgery or wax removal etc may help improve the hearing.
