Other commonly used medications, such as omeprazole (Prilosec), phenytoin (Dilantin), and isoniazid (INH), may increase the risk of liver injury caused by acetaminophen. It is always in the liver patient’s best interest to consult with a liver specialist prior to taking any medication. Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and other NSAIDs such as Motrin are drugs that are widely used for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. They also have the potential to cause drug-induced liver disease.
I was recently tested (blood drawn) for celiac and I had been on daily omeprazole for 9 months. My test came back negative, but my doc never mentioned stopping omeprazole. of course my doc also 'forgot' that she prescribed omeprazole for me in the first place and tried to prescribe it again.
Stopped medicine and problems disappeared. Started omeprazole again and the problems came back. I had tried the others, like Prilosec, and they caused me even more problems, and right away too. I have diverticulitis and get headaches when I eat things like peanuts, etc. Am allergic to penicillin(hospitalized for reaction), some anti-biotics and some anti-inflammatory drugs. Develop aches, rashes, etc. Eg: Aleve makes my lips break out in blisters. Ibuprofen hurts my stomach bad.

The very next day I woke up with stomach pain and cramps at around the same time I had the acid reflux the previous night. I haven't really had that again since then, but I've been having gas, bloating, and chest pain. I had similar symptoms previously when taking omeprazole.

I have changed my diet and eat only steamed brown rice, vegetables and white meats but it makes no difference. I also have reflux for which I take omeprazole 40mg every day. I have been on this medication for 5 years now. Can this be causing my problem? The doctor said it is IBS but there must be some thing else I can try or be tasted for....I have lost weight and I am off work now because I feel week and have not much energy. Could it be some kind of intestinal problem?
Had a terrible day yesterday with stomach ache, nausea and bloating. Ate very little and was better today. Ate dinner a while ago and am starting to get a stomach ache and bloated again! Just took Gas-X. My doctor said he is out of stuff to prescribe and referred me to a specialist 2 hours away! I am set for a 3-5 hour motility test next week. Wondering if anyone has had this done. Of course, can't get done locally and have to be there at 7:30 AM!
When I was about 16, I used to be obese. And suddenly, I had the urge to lose weight. So then, I tried so hard to lose weight. My weight loss had been drastic, all it took was 4mos to lose about 1/4 of my previous weight. Ever since then, I had an irregular eating habbit, I only eat whenever I want to since I'm terrified of gaining back the weight that I had lost. Also, I had been taking some Chinese diet pills to satiate my hunger.
I have started taking Buspar for the ANXIETY, omeprazole to control stomach acid/ bloating and becotide for the mucus. I seem to have a low ANXIETY threshold and overreact to stress. I am quite fit and the problem seems not to interfere with aerobic exercise. QUESTIONS Q1 Do you think it is entirely plausible that the sensitive lung problem and the previous 'attacks' be ANXIETY related ? Q2 If so, is this ASTHMA senso stricto, or something similar?
Was put on omeprazole. I have been taking the PPI for 3 weeks but still suffer from nausea and bloating/belching (both immediately after eating and hours later). My appetite is normal;weight has not changed my pee and defaction are normal, I am not vomiting. Any insight?
Well, not sure about the bloating that comes on right as you are getting ready to eat a meal, but sometimes abdominal pain, bloating and fullness (and constipation and chronic reflux problems due to a full stomach) can be caused by gastroparesis. There seem to be a lot of people on the board just recently who have abdominal pain and bloating, and I'm sure most of them don't have GP, but it's always a possibility, and so I mention it. You might want to ask your doctor about it.
I suffer from anxiety and Upper Gastric IBS in the form of stomach bloating. I take omeprazole for the acid/reflux. I also have a thoracic/ lung tension disorder...possibly related to the anxiety (?) I am at times distressed by excess lung mucous, which causes me some degree of breathing lungs seem somewhat over sensitive and I sometimes cannot 'catch' the top of my breath...until I belch.
Been on that since end of June '09 and my nausea has gotten much better. I've been having bloating issues on and off since maybe Feb. Lately they've been so bad it's driving me insane. I could eat the littlest thing and my stomach just goes "poof" and I look pregnant, it's uncomfortable and embarrassing and I don't know how to get rid of it. I am going to call the Dr. on Monday but I hate to keep going in there and wasting $. I have tried Gas-X.
dear Sara, bloating can occur because of irritation to the bowel/ intestine from actual tumor covering it. Or it can occur from fluid (ascites) build up. If it is the former, the best approach is an aggressive bowel regimen to prevent constipation.
In October I had a burning pain under my breast bone and started burping after eating. Went to urgent care and doctor prescribed me omeprazole. Took it for two weeks and everything went away. The week of Thanksgiving the pain started to come back and then I had heartburn that lasted for 4 days. Back on the omeprazole. after a week and a half it didn't work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing.
I have had anxiety breathings in the past, generally my breathing would feel labored everyday and my chest heavy. i took paxil for about 4 years and got off. now almost 9 months out, i am having breathing orblems, albeit different. i cant take deep breaths, have shortness of breath and my chest feels tight. i have also had a big blaoted stomach all these months as well. i'm pretty sure my stomach is affected, and producing more acid than usual, hence the reflux.
First time it occurred I went to doctor, by the time I got to doctor, the bloating and pain was gone. Yesterday was more sever and more painful it was about 3 AM so I knew it was going to pass but it took me about 2 hours of excruciating pain the shortness of breath was so bad I could not even talk.. By the time it was a decent time to go to doctor. bloating was gone. This last gas/bloating attack was more severe... even though now I am not bloated and I can breath normally.
I have suffered from excess acid on and off over the last 10 years and been diagnosed with h.pylori twice. I have tried omeprazole and din't like the dry itching skin so came off of it and controlled it with diet and occasional anti acid chews.
How can I increase HCL / stomach acid in my stomach so i can eliminate the bloating and digest/absorb my food properly again and possibly rid myself of this racing / pounding heart non-sense. And also, i have read a few places that says taking PPIs for more than 2-3 weeks is not recommended. I have also read that they mess up the balance of other vitamins and nutrients.
e keep burping and discomfort in sternum and around side and back, also constant bloating. I am on my third day and the burping is slowly disappearing and also the discomfort in my sternum has gone. I am so so so so happy. But I was wonderig how long for it to work completely as I am only on my third day and have been told to take the whole 28 days worth. I would appreciate any advice.
Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. Please consult a GI doctor for confirmed diagnosis and treatment. Take care!
Now it's not a mild stomach upset, its more along the lines of severe pain and bloating. I usually have several outbreaks of pain per day, and it goes from feeling 95% normal to excruciating pain. It almost feels as though my stomach is full to overflowing with stomach acid - if I lay on my left side, the left side of my stomach hurts, and vice versa. If I lay on my back, the back of my stomach hurts, and vice versa.
pylori is isolated as expected treatment however remains more or less the same while following the same triple therapy but medications may change depending on drug sensitivity and presentation of symptoms at that time. bloating is a not a side effect of omeprazole but indicates further progression of disease while having a pattern of GERD and Gastritis. Hope this helps. Please keep us updated.
One thing Im still suffering from is painful and extreme and chronic stomach bloating. My bloating is so painful it makes it difficult and painful to move, but what alarms me the most is the inability to breath normal.. I find it difficult to breath when I'm bloated, I just want to know if this is a common issue with bloating??? I automatically think I may have some type of heart issue due to the fact that I can not breath after I eat..
sounds like reflux and a hiatal hernia as that is what I have. The bloating could be due to if u do not go to the bathroom on a regular basis or the amount that u should.....try a diet for gerd...see a list in the Health Pages here on MedHelp. Try to relax as stress can make ur reflux worse...and the reflux can cause damage and left untreated can cause more issues....and ur spot can be damage...with the right meds can be relax and see what the GI dr says after ur test.
Since August of 2010 I've had chest pain, difficulty breathing, incredible stomach bloating/distention (even after just drinking a glass of water), burping, reflux, and heartburn. My main concern is the bloating and difficulty breathing. I can barely function on a day to day basis. I eat little bites all day long because I can't eat a full meal or I start hyperventilating. I have had an EGD which showed a polyp (was removed) and some mild esophagitis. I don't have H.
I went to my GP and he said it could be acid reflux and put me on 1 month of omeprazole and peppermint oil capsules. These don't seem to make much difference to the symptoms. I don't have any heartburn, stool changes etc. I've also been taking some probiotics to make sure that I don't have a bacterial imbalance, and some windeze to help with the excess gas.
