When doing some reading it came up that a vitamin b-12 defiency (leading to anemia) can be caused by taking omeprazole long term... I have taken omeprazole 20mg 1x a day for over a year as a preventative measure since I take so much indomethacin (I don't have GERD) So.... could I be vitamin b-12 deficient due to taking omeprazole??
I also read that b-12 deficiencies can cause canker sores... which I have begun to have again (I haven't had one for four years)

Take a multivitamin pill. Eat at regular intervals and see how you are doing. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. See if this helps. Also get your BP checked to see if it is not too high or too low. It can also be stress and lack of proper sleep.
Nausea could be due to extreme fatigue. If you are also over weight, check out for diabetes and hypothyroidism. Severe anemia too causes water retention and weight gain. In women polycystic disease of the ovary too should be ruled out as it causes insulin resistance and fatigue.
If you pass urine a lot and feeling very tired, diabetes and subclinical urinary tract infection should be ruled out.
s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted.
Does anyone have experience with taking this?
At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.
I get up and have 2 or 3 cups of tea with sugar, should wait a 1/2 after taking the medicine before drinking the tea?

I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.
He also feels warm inside stomach. Doctor prescribed omeprazole and he had it for three times year. It has not improved. He is loosing weight and drinking less water. He is afraid to eat food and missing school. Right now he is 5 feet 10 inch and 50 kg weight. Please advice what to do??
Forgot to mention that she is also taking tablets ( omeprazole 40mg daily, tramadol 50mg 4 times daily and co codamol 4 tmies daily) and she has a sore mouth due to loss of teeth and has been experiencing trouble chewing her food, because it hurts to do so.
The best way to avoid gut symptoms are to take the medication after dinner and take an antacid gel or take omeprazole empty stomach in the morning.

Hey. I was wondering if it’s fine for me to take 40mg of Omeprazole and 1 capsule of
IBgard in the same day. I have GERD.
Tonight I was resting and I started to have some pain in my collar bone and it felt like there was a thumping in my throat. My co-workers have suggested anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, varicose veins, and gluten intolerance. After my endoscopy I was diagnosed with esophagitis from eating something I'm allergic to. On July 1st ill be seeing an allergist to help with that. I'm just not understanding the chest pain, especially since I've never had it before.
My 4 year old son has been prescribed 20mg omeprazole for unknown stomach pain. I heard that PPIs such as this can increase the risk of pneumonia and he has a horrible chest cold. cough right now, should I discontinue taking this medication until this passes? Are the chances of it turning into pneumonia greater if he is on omeprazole? Or is this risk factor only for prolong use?
This can be confirmed by occult blood test in stool which looks for hidden blood, endoscopy and the fact that the pain responds to antacid, omeprazole, cold milk etc. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
