603543 tn?1255294450 Hats off to those in which responded to Omega 3, but I know way to many sufferers (myself included) That found it to be completly non-effective. I will say that during my time on Omega 3 that my doctor mentioned that my blood work looked great. So no doubt it has some health benifits.
1053987 tn?1279304510 I take Omega-3 supplements and Vitamin D. For Omega-3, you need to make sure that what you're taking has a high concentration of EPA fats, as these are the ones that will actually help with mood stabilization. Look for capsules that come from fish oil, not flax seed, because flax contains a different type of Omega-3 (ALA). I use a brand called OmegaBrite because my doctor recommended it, actually. Apparently it's one of the best out there to help treat bipolar disorder and depression.
Avatar f tn Omega-3 is like anything else. There is a reccomended dosage. Best to stick to the standard guidelines which your doctor or pharmacist would know. I believe taking above a certain dosage can induce mania and anyway any nutrient has a specific reccomended dosage and its best not to go above that. Fish oil or flaxseed oil is fine. Cod liver oil should not be taken as a mood stabilizer because higher doses are potentially toxic.
Avatar f tn t tolerate them--usually due to dizziness but sometimes mania or excessive fatigue. (Does anyone know how to treat dizziness without meclizine, by the way?
403156 tn?1290150018 I have capsules that are 1200mg. of fish oil per pill and my doc wants me to take 3 a day. To hit the depression the dose has to be higher than a normal person would take. I buy them at Iherb.com, Dr. Michael Murray's Fish Oil capsules, he makes the high dose capsules with all the right amounts of the other things my doc told me to get. You can buy 180 capsules for $13.87 but it's pharmacutical grade, meaning it will improve depression and mood.
1425157 tn?1311651679 i forgot to mention i am on the fish oil to help lower slightly elevated cholesterol and help the ectopics at the request of my cardiologist-- not to treat my anxiety--i dont have depression just anxiety/panic disorder--i did read up on the fish oil-- will be careful to watch i had no idea--if things keep up i will go back on an ssri
Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
1655526 tn?1330655629 ve read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
Avatar f tn Secondly add omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids to your diet (salmon, mackeral, sardines, etc) and supplement good quality Omega 3 - flaxseed oil is omega 3 but not in a form that is immediately available and so has to be converted by the human body - if you can get uncontaminated salmon Omega 3 it is a better bet.
Avatar m tn Hey there, I haven't used SAM-e, but it does have pretty good benefits. Apparently, quite a bit of testing has proven it has efficacy in treating both anxiety and also depression, so I would not think this is a placebo effect taking place. To test it, you can go off SAM-e for a week and then monitor how you are feeling emotionally, and if you aren't feeling all that well without taking it, then that would prove its working.
Avatar f tn Make omega 3 fatty acids part of your daily diet. So much scientific evidence shows that omega 3s are vital to heart health. And there are plenty of good sources to choose from. There’s no good reason not to enjoy omega 3s. Your best sources for these fatty acids include: Sardines, Tuna, Wild salmon, Grass-fed beef, Milk, Cage-free eggs, Be sure when choosing fish that you avoid the farm-raised variety.
Avatar f tn What I would do is go to my local health food store and ask about natural sorces of Omega 3 like seeds, nuts etc and have a chat with ur doctor and ask if it would be safe to take an Omega supplement with the medication u are already taking.
906679 tn?1263612612 I was just wondering if it was safe to take omega 3 with zoloft 25mg and i take militonin at night to help me sleep,,
433485 tn?1321813390 I do know one person who said it brought them out of a suicidal state when known medications had failed to treat their depression. Other people have stated they had mixed results. One other option is trans cranial magnetic stimulation which works in a similar manner but has a safer long term side effect profile and has been FDA approved for a number of years. You could ask about that.
Avatar f tn By talking openly and honestly with a psychiatrist you could find a way to treat your depression AND have a healthy happy baby. Also I highly recommend not using ANY herbal remedies before taking to a doctor and having them approve it. Some herbs can be as harmful as a prescribed medication to an unborn child. I know I will continue to take medication prescribed by my well informed psychiatrist during my pregnancy. I know it will help me take better care of myself and my child.
Avatar m tn I have taken Krill Oil consistently to treat ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety. What is triggering my curiosity relates to the following - I have a strange skin condition on my arm I have developed over the last 3-4 years which seems to come in go whereby I have these white patches that appear all over my arms, more on my left than right. I have noticed that when I stop taking krill oil is significantly reduces the symptoms of this condition.
Avatar f tn I have been reading a lot online about mast cell tumors, how to treat them, etc. I have decided to change my dogs diet to the Canine Cancer Diet... low carb, high fat, high protein, homecooked. I have already added fish oil supplement (human grade) I squeeze it out of the liquid capsule and the same for Vitamin E. First... I have read conflicting information about the types of Omegas some say you need 3 & 6, while others say not to Omega 6 because it can cause cancer to grow.
1726194 tn?1310174750 If your B vitamins are low, this affects the adrenal gland and anxiety can be due to weakened adrenal glands. Omega 3 looks helpful for anxiety too. This would be due to the beneficial effects omega 3 has on the neurotransmitter serotonin. Low serotonin can cause numerous symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and OCD. Magnesium supplements are safe but should not be taken if you have kidney or heart conditions.
