Avatar n tn Possibly effective for high blood pressure- Fish oil seems to produce modest reductions in blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil seem to be able to expand blood vessels, and this brings blood pressure down.
Avatar n tn I am on Synthoid, Metformin and Lovaza (basic Omega-3 acid to help lower triglycerides.) If the medication does not lower my level, should I ask the doctor to look at other underlining causes?

Avatar n tn I take the Omega Q Plus by Dr. Sinatra. Had not been consistent with it daily as I am now after I got my Cholesterol checked. My Low density was down and my Hds were up and tris were almost 200 below what they had been in years. I was elated over the tri report because it had been in the 400's in the past. Everything else checked out perfect. I will continue to take Omega 3 plus for another 3 months, and have it checked again.
Avatar n tn When my triglycerides were elevated, the doctor ordered me to take omega 3 fish oil supplements… I asked for how long, and his response was for life.
Avatar m tn Welcome and thanks for your question! The key to lowering VLDL is to lower your TGLs as it is calculated as 20% of your serum triglycerides. The best way to lower TGLs is to cut back on empty carbs that metabolize as sugar. This includes breads, pasta, sugar filled items and alcohol. Also, processed foods have a high amount of bad fats that will increase your TGLs. Another secret, stay away from sodas as they are high in sugar.
3060903 tn?1398565123 Good fat lowers triglycerides. It is recommended you consume a moderate fat diet to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. A moderate fat diet means using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn s left the worst stuff, the triglycerides, appear to be fine. All you probably need to do is alter your diet to increase beneficial and neutral fats, and lower harmful fats and simple carbs such as sugar and white flour, which turn to easily oxidized fat (LDL) quite quickly. Raising your HDL a bit will help prevent oxidation of the LDL. Basically, less animal fat, more fish fat and other omega 6 fats, fewer omega three fats.

Avatar m tn Fish oils contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) which are proven in many studies to lower trigs. They slow down the build of artery plaques, reduce the risk of stroke and many other health issues. I think it would be wiser to buy capsules because some fish (thanks to environment poisoning) can contain methylmercury and other chemicals. The label on the packaging will state what forms of omega 3 supplements are contained in the capsules.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding. Yes I do take a combination of Omega 3-6-9 daily. Also I've been a salmon eating vegetarian for approximately 20 years. I used to be very active when I was younger, but due to MS the only activity that I participate in regularly is swimming, which I've always done. I used to walk, jog, run, play tennis, and bike. Walking isn't as easy as it used to be, so I try to eat right.
