4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
907968 tn?1292622204 peanuts are a fantastic food, but in actual fact, peanuts are not really nuts. I believe they are a member of the pea/bean family. I don't think they contain omega-3 but they contain a high level of omega-6 which is the lower of the omega's in fish but more important for blood vessels. There has been lots of research on peanuts and results have shown that they greatly reduce the risk of cardiac disease. They have other benefits too, it has been shown they reduce the risk of colon cancer.

Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
3060903 tn?1398565123 It is recommended you consume a moderate fat diet to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. A moderate fat diet means using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar f tn And there’s no requirement to stop nursing at 12 months, either. Unfortunately, many young women don’t think to include dietary sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids before they become pregnant. In that case, there are still steps to take during pregnancy that will do much of the same job. These include taking extra amounts of omega-3 fatty acids (1 tablespoon of cod liver oil) and omega-6 fatty acids (300 mg of GLA), along with 400 IU of vitamin E as mixed tocopherols each day.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
Avatar f tn Eat avocados, salmon, walnuts and olive oil to ensure that you consume plenty of healthy fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids. These acids supply energy but benefit the health of your heart as well. Skip unhealthy saturated and trans fats found in fast food, frozen pizza and packaged, baked goods because they aren't nutritious sources of energy. They can actually slow you down and impact your performance. Certain foods will provide you with the vitamins and minerals you need to perform well.
671251 tn?1236116671 I checked out some library books about childbirth. I got one book about diet called Healthy Eating During Pregnancy. It says that Omega 3 fatty acids are "brain building fats" for the baby's developing brain. It's especially important to eat a lot during the last three months of pregnancy when the brain grows so much. It's also good for the baby's nerves and eyes. Eggs and certain kinds of fish are good sources.
1136436 tn?1261826161 What you need is a good diet with healthy fats such as omega-3, essential fatty acids sources like tuna, salmon, flax, and walnuts. You might try natural sources of omega fatty acids for mood, like freshwater fish, such as salmon and tuna, walnuts and macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed. You might try flaxseed or if you aren't troubled by the fishy aftertaste, enteric coated fish oil capsules. Sam-E by naturemade is a helpful mood booster. Those hormonal changes can make it easy to put on the pounds.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn Peanuts are not the best nuts to eat every day. It's actually walnuts and then only a small handful. You will never have to worry about eating an entire dark chocolate bar because it has to be a least 60% or more cocoa, so you'll be happy to get one piece down due to the taste. Below is from WebMD...very reputable. The New Low-Cholesterol Diet: Nuts Nuts aren't just for holidays anymore. Key nuts can help you lower cholesterol. Add nuts to your low-cholesterol diet. By R.
Avatar n tn Parents of ADHD children and ADHD adults who wish to utilize omega-3 fatty acids as a method of modifying their behavior should use both flax and seafood sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Flax provides alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the master omega-3 fatty acid from which other omega-3 fatty acids are synthesized. Seafood provides DHA directly which appears to be a vital omega-3 fatty acid for modifying behavior of ADHD children and adults. The rate of conversion of ALA to DHA is quite low.
Avatar n tn Walnuts are a good source of Omega 3
