Avatar m tn You might also not be eating enough sources of HDL, but you can just increase your fish oil or krill oil or hemp seed oil or flax seed oil -- there are other sources of omega 3 oils, though only fish that eat seaweed have a good level of DHA.
1655526 tn?1330655629 So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
1319721 tn?1276040968 The fatty acids in krill oil bind into our cells much easier than regular fish oil. The Omega 3 fatty acids are better in krill oil. ■Contamination: Fish oil is made from large fish. These large fish have been known to be contaminated with mercury and other pollutants. We have been warned not to eat more than two fish a week. Krill oil has not been affected by pollution. It is pure and chemical free. Some people use the word “organic” when describing krill oil.
Avatar m tn t purify it, meaning you get more than just the omega 3 oils, but that means you get less of the omega 3 oils and have to take more of them, and they are expensive. Cod liver oil shouldn't be taken regularly -- it can have a laxative effect, and the liver is a detoxification organ, meaning toxins accumulate there. It can be good for skin problems and other things, but for basic omega 3 you don't want liver oil.
Avatar m tn I have the opposite effect with omega 3 from krill oil. It makes them tons worse. I take a tsp. of flax seed each day and blend them in a smoothie and that doesn't seem to bother me. What brand of plant based omega 3 do you use? After my bad experiences with krill oil, I'm kind of scared to take anything but whole flax seeds.
19524680 tn?1479322297 It's just omega 3 fatty acids with some other things. No good studies seem to exist. There's also an environmental problem with getting your omega 3 oils from shrimp rather than fish, which is that these shrimp such as krill and this one are tiny and that means you need a ton to make a little fish oil. That also means you basically deplete the ocean pretty quickly of them and all the animals that feed off them will start to die off.

Avatar m tn re not allergic to krill oil, it is touted to be the superior form of animal based omega three oil. Second, all people should ideally use krill oil or fish oil everyday indefinitely. 1762978 tn?1313614515 Krill oil is high in EPA and DHA, two forms of omega 3 fatty acids which can lower cholesterol and some believe it can lower blood pressure as well by helping control LDL, reducing the amount of plaques in your arteries and thinning your blood. None of this has been proven. There are a couple things to remember before you start using krill oil. First, it is a supplement and as such is not controlled by the FDA.
Avatar f tn They contain lots of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, which are the two main omega-3 oils found in fish and a high concentration. Fish is very often stated as a fantastic healthy food but many live in polluted waters and are fatty too. Krill oil is easier for the body to absorb as fish oils (when eating fish) are generally glued to triglycerides meaning we have to eat more to absorb more. So a small amount of krill oil would absorb the same amount as a large amount of fish oil.
Avatar f tn Most important to brain function are the two essential fatty acids, linoleic (or omega 6) and alpha linolenic (or omega 3). These are the prime structural components of brain cell membranes and are also an important part of the enzymes within cell membranes that allow the membranes to transport valuable nutrients in and out of the cells. if you want to read more of this article you can access it at: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T040900.

Avatar m tn I've read a lot of good things about krill oil for the heart so I tried it again. The first day I thought maybe I was wrong about causing palps, but by the third day my heart was flopping around again so stopped again. It just doesn't work for me. I react to caffeine less than I do krill oil. I can, however, take regular fish oil without problems.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Is cod liver supplements better than omega 3? I have read about Krill oil. Has anybody tried that? Also a neighbour said Green Lipped Mussel helps her back pain. What do people here take to relieve their arthritis pain?

Avatar n tn Parents of ADHD children and ADHD adults who wish to utilize omega-3 fatty acids as a method of modifying their behavior should use both flax and seafood sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Flax provides alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the master omega-3 fatty acid from which other omega-3 fatty acids are synthesized. Seafood provides DHA directly which appears to be a vital omega-3 fatty acid for modifying behavior of ADHD children and adults. The rate of conversion of ALA to DHA is quite low.
