omega-3

1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar m tn An interesting question would be, does the source of omega 3 matter, assuming this study is true (and the article cited by Gymdandee suggests it isn't a good study for this). Some have argued that too much flax might be a bad idea.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar f tn University of Maryland Medical Center suggests omega-3 fatty acids can help "decrease inflammation and help with immunity" for thyroid support. In addition, some studies have indicated that omega-3 fatty acids can increase thyroid hormone uptake.
Avatar n tn Parents of ADHD children and ADHD adults who wish to utilize omega-3 fatty acids as a method of modifying their behavior should use both flax and seafood sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Flax provides alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the master omega-3 fatty acid from which other omega-3 fatty acids are synthesized. Seafood provides DHA directly which appears to be a vital omega-3 fatty acid for modifying behavior of ADHD children and adults. The rate of conversion of ALA to DHA is quite low.
Avatar f tn Vitamin E is found in all whole grain sources, wheat germ; and omega 3 are in nuts, fish, teas, flaxseed, and egg to name a few. Plus you get the added benefit of the fiber.
Avatar f tn The EPA / DHA come from the omega 3 so it is important to know ratios of the omega 3 / omega 6 fat oils sources and compare the actual ingredients of the supplements. Omega 3 should have the higher amount then omega 6.
Avatar f tn And there’s no requirement to stop nursing at 12 months, either. Unfortunately, many young women don’t think to include dietary sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids before they become pregnant. In that case, there are still steps to take during pregnancy that will do much of the same job. These include taking extra amounts of omega-3 fatty acids (1 tablespoon of cod liver oil) and omega-6 fatty acids (300 mg of GLA), along with 400 IU of vitamin E as mixed tocopherols each day.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
11634465 tn?1421827735 t be shy with good fats (avocado, grass fed butter, olive oil, nuts, etc), and stay away from fake fats like margarine. Opt for high omega 3 fats, like salmon, avocado, butter, and stay away from omega 6 fats ( sun flower, grape seed, etc). High omega 6 fats cause inflammation in body and promotes diabetic conditions/symptoms. At every meal, eat non starchy veg with meat/fish/eggs, and don't be shy with fats (butter, olive oil, bacon, avocado, etc).
Avatar f tn Hi to eevryone! Your cardiologist may not know it, but flax oil hardly converts to omega-3's; only 2% at best of the omega-3 linolenic acid component is converted to the useful omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, and that is IF there are no omega-6 fats competing for uptake. Other than that, the linolenic acid in flax oil has no known use in the body, and flax oil obviously has shortcomings by containing a relatively high amount of inflammatory omega-6 linoleic acid.
Avatar f tn and it was no surprise to see omega 6 (vegetable oils are high in omega 6) and the paleo diet mentioned. The Paleo diet is a diet high in fat, mostly naturally grazed or wild from animal sources, moderate to high in animal protein and low to moderate in natural carbohydrates from vegetables and fruits. Here is an excerpt from the article... "Thankfully, one of the best ways to decrease intestinal inflammation is to eat a paleo diet!
Avatar m tn You might also not be eating enough sources of HDL, but you can just increase your fish oil or krill oil or hemp seed oil or flax seed oil -- there are other sources of omega 3 oils, though only fish that eat seaweed have a good level of DHA.
Avatar f tn Most doctors recommend eating a low-mercury fish atleast twice a week so you can get your omega-3 (which is good for a babies neurological system). The article is basically saying that not all cans of tuna contain high mercury, but since we don't know how to tell which ones do/don't- they recommend not taking any chances. I'm sure eating it every once in a while is fine (or atleast I'm hoping so since tuna/crackers have been my go-to snack).
Avatar f tn There is also an argument not to treat it at all if there is no pain or symptoms. Scientific American did an article on this and you can do a search.
Avatar n tn But hemp seeds and flax seeds, while containing some Omega 6 fats, contain high amounts of Omega 3 fats, which are essential for health. Some Omega 6 is also essential for health, as is Omega 9 and other fats.
