Avatar f tn Taking a supplement is fine. Plenty of foods besides fish have omegas. And omega 6 and 9 are also important.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
603543 tn?1255294450 1 gram EPA daily is what most studies found effective for depression. Country Life makes Omega 3 Mood High EPA Mood Balancing Formula. 2 capsule contain 1 gram EPA. FYI, it can take 1-2 months of taking fish oil everyday before you notice an effect.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Others argue that too much fatty fish might be a problem not because of the Omega 3 oils but the contaminants that have gotten into our fatty fish (you can avoid some of this by taking a reliable supplement, but unfortunately we have to rely on company reputation for this as nobody is doing much checking out there). And with flax, is there a difference between organically grown and that grown with carcinogenic chemical applications? Between farm raised fish and wild fish?
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn I give my 20 pound Westie one capsule of "fish oil" each morning. I use scissors and hold the capsule over his kibble - cut tip off and squeeze He seems to like the smell/taste of the oil on his kibble which is also fish based. This capsule is the same that I take, and the dose recommendation for a human (or any weight) is 3 per day. I can't say I see any improvement in his several problems conditions, but I figure it "can't hurt"...
Avatar f tn I for one experience an increase in my PVC and PAC episodes after I take omega 3. Ever since I only obtain omega 3 from the fish i eat on a bi-weekly basis - i don't take the capsules anymore.
Avatar n tn Even if you have no allergy to fish, it could be due to some contaminants in the fish used, other ingredients in the capsule or to the concentrated oil in the capsule. You could also be sensitive to the capsule if you are sensitive to nuts and alpha linoleic acid. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
374933 tn?1291081784 I use Nordic Naturals or Trader Joe's brands and have no problems with them. they are molecularly distilled to remove any heavy metals. If the complex means omega 3-6-9. stay away. Our diets our usually heavy on the omega 6's and low on the omega-3's. Taking Omega 3 is enough to set the balance straight. Omega 3's are a great supplement and can help inflammation, cholesterol, heart disease and in high enough doses- mood.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
Avatar f tn University of Maryland Medical Center suggests omega-3 fatty acids can help "decrease inflammation and help with immunity" for thyroid support. In addition, some studies have indicated that omega-3 fatty acids can increase thyroid hormone uptake.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Omega-3 helps heart arrythmias? It worked for me, but not for my 30 yr old daughter who suffers from PVCs. They can make life hellish but for the most part are benign - but definitely a quality of life issue. I would say avoid all cardiac stimulants like caffeine, nicotine, and believe it or not - anger and sentimental thoughts can cause arrythmias. You can deliver bad hormones into your own body that stimulate your heart by having scary, or sentimental thoughts.
Avatar n tn It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
Avatar m tn Each quartile corresponded to the level of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood. The first quartile was very low in omega-3 fatty acids; the second quartile was higher in omega-3s, etc. The researchers found that the men in the second-lowest quartile had a 45 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared with those in the lowest quartile, and those in the second highest quartile had a 72 percent lower risk of death.

Avatar n tn Fish and seafood are generally discouraged while pregnant, because mercury can cause defects in the baby. Speak to your OB and they will tell you the types of fish that are okay, what amounts are safe and when.
Avatar f tn It's the omega 3 in it that are good for you, the recommended dose is already in your prenatals so don't take anything extra without consulting your dr first.
Avatar f tn I visited my local GNC store to purchase some Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement. I bought the triple strength, and then asked while paying for it what was the normal dosage? He and another employee said "1,000mg per day." When I arrived home their "triple strength" is only 900 mg??? I have bought others that have always been 1,000mg and that is what I have been taking. Can someone please help me with what is the proper dosage? Thanks.
611184 tn?1222039645 ~ 25-30 years ago, I read an article that recommended taking the Omega-3 fish oils first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and avoid any other consumptions for 30 minutes...this suggestion was based on the fact that this kept the O3 from going through the digestive system process; and straight to the areas of the body that benefitted from the supplement. I take a tablespoon each morning and so far it's working..
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new here, but have read some posts from the past and have a question for all of those who noticed an increase in palpitations when they used fish oil. I was wondering if you noticed if fish oil in even small amounts caused an increase. I have been having a lot of trouble with palpitations lately and I just noticed that my margarine (a high omega 3 margarine) has fish oil in it. I'm wondering if that could be causing a problem for me.
