1543111 tn?1293314661 Okay I started taking Omega 3 about a week ago for rheumatoid arthritis after seeing how great it worked for my dog's arthritis. And NO I will not take those RA pills for RA with 'death' as the side effects. When I first take Omega 3 I feel misrable and its a little hard to breath for a while. Now I have every day a constant abdominal pain and my tongue burns. But I am caught between do I want the arthritis pain all over my body or this abdominal pain?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
653169 tn?1303446369 You may want to increase your input of water so your body can flush itself. Try upping omega 3's in your diet and wearing support hose. Accupuncture might help both the pain and swelling. Be sure the swelling isn't being caused by organ involvement though. Hope you get some relief soon.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn hi.. thanks for your concern... in fact i had an app. with my rheumy yesterday and in her opinion i have lupus but still in its first stages (even though i don't have any rash???) but she said it's not RA because my symptoms don't match. my morning stiffness lasts for about half an hour not more and during these 7 months there was no swallow elbow or knee or any other joint but the joints pain is not going away.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
Avatar n tn t want to take steroids and am hesitant to chance RA treatments. My medical history with RA in 1973, in remission after 2 years, Guilliane Barre in '76, Fibromyalgia '96, taking synthroid for hypo thyroid. When I'm in pain, mostly in my calves & joints, I don't know what to blame it on. Should I have Nerve Conduction studies done periodically? Concern is possible progression of CIDP. NC was done for dx two years ago. Permanent damage to left hand.
Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
Avatar f tn Also recent studies indicate that 2 or 3 Omega 3 (enteric coated fish oil) greatlyhelp dry eyes. Takes 3-4 months to kick in. Use enteric coated fish oil and start with one/day with evening meal for two weeks then add a second with breakfast.
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
Avatar m tn She just needs to eat healthy, lots of fruits, vegetables and soups, milk and dairy products (in moderation), lean cut of meat, fish (if she does not eat you can ask her doctor if she can take omega-3 supplements), cereals, whole grains etc. She needs to drink 7-8 glasses of water per day. You can ask if a multivitamin supplement will help her. And am sorry, but there is no cure for RA. Take care!
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
603543 tn?1255294450 kelliebellie just keep in mind that it may not work. I'm not trying to be a spoiler, but I did the Omega 3 thing for 6 months at high dosages. The Omega 3 suppliment I was using was top grade from a health store. It cost twice as much as other formulas because of it higher quality. 6 full months of this Omega 3 experiment produced absolutly no improvement in my Severe depression. Perhaps my condition is more severe than your and that's why I failed to respond to it.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
1794671 tn?1338795391 I searched the net for answers, and found that due to my celiacs I had omega 3, copper, vitamin d, folic acid, b12 , B1, and once this was fixed up my edema and carpal tunnel went away within a month. Give it a try what have you got to lose.
Avatar m tn I think omega 3's helped me. It affects my asthma and makes it hard to breathe. I took them for 2 months, asthma was settling down and since they were expensive I stopped taking the omega 3 supplement. However, a week later I'm worse than ever and can't breathe. I bought some more so we will see. Omega 3's are anti-inflammatory so theortically they should help with mucsous since it is an inflammatory response.
