1021174 tn?1251635887 A) I am allergic to Macadamia nuts. I have eaten them twice and had bad reactions both times. Once when I was 18 (I ate three nuts) and another time when I was 30 (one bite of a cookie) upon eating them my throat felt itchy and as they digested I could feel an itchy almost explosive reaction as they went down. I forced myself to vomit and was left with an acidic nauscuous feeling in my stomach. My Questions: 1) why am I only allergic to this nut?
Avatar n tn Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn You might try natural sources of omega fatty acids for mood, like freshwater fish, such as salmon and tuna, walnuts and macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed. You might try flaxseed or if you aren't troubled by the fishy aftertaste, enteric coated fish oil capsules. Sam-E by naturemade is a helpful mood booster. Those hormonal changes can make it easy to put on the pounds.
716841 tn?1289948186 You might try adding (if you don't eat them already) macadamia nuts to your weight gaining diet- they have omega fatty acids that are good for you. Nuts can help pack on the pounds, but some are better for you than others. Walnuts are high in omega fatty acids as well. Have they tested your thyroid?
Avatar f tn they are a good source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids.... i dont know why you wouldnt eat them.. I do remember reading somewhere that eating alot of nuts in your pregnancy can cause nut allergies but i dont know if this is true... it was on the internet.. I was never advised by my doctor to avoid them.. If its true though, my poor baby is screwed becasue I had peanut butter and almonds all through my pregnancy...
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
1282285 tn?1271424395 I do think that it has helped to some extent with my jaw arthritis. I also eat macadamia nuts (crushed because of soft diet restriction with the jaw arthritis), which are high in omega fatty acids and taste great too! Other foods that have those inflammation-fighting, mood lifting omega fatty acid suggestions if you like them: walnuts, pumpkin seeds, freshwater fish, like salmon, tuna (and I think sardines), and even flaxseed meal you can add to pancakes and cookies.
Avatar f tn I did hear a tip once that if you eat a small handful of nuts prior to your meal (try almonds, walnuts or macadamia nuts, all high in omega fatty acids, good for mood, inflammation, and more), it can help curb your appetite.
Avatar f tn What about trying some natural things with omega fatty acids that are supposed to help inflammation, like flaxseed meal, freshwater fish, walnuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, etc.? If you are not currently taking the steroids, have they checked your cortisol levels in your blood, urine or saliva?
Avatar m tn The role of fats in heart disease is an evolving opinion, but certainly most research hospitals suggest polyunsaturated fats are much healthier and in fact a necessary component to most people's diet. Omega 3 and 6 fish oils, for example, are prescribed universally to people with Cardiac Artery Disease, and fish oil is certainly a Poly oil. I haven't a clue about cashews, I'm a Hazelnut (Filbert) fan myself. They are delicious in salads.

Avatar m tn Also, you could increase your intake of the good omega fatty acids- try freshwater fish, walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, etc.. You might also take flaxseed oil or enteric coated fish oil capsules. And there is something that costs some money, but can be gotten over the counter that was recommended to me by a psychiatrist for mood. It is the Naturemade brand of Sam-E. He said studies had been done that showed it helped with depression.
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
Avatar n tn Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats and no Trans fats.
Avatar f tn Soy, cruciferous vegetables (specially if they are raw), vegetable and seed oils, nuts (except for tropical nuts, eg. macadamia/brazil), seeds, excessive grains, fish oils, pork, chicken skin/fat, fluoridated water.
Avatar f tn t like the fishy taste coming up, so I switched to flaxseed oil capsules, 1000 mg twice a day. I also had the recommendation of eating things high in omega fatty acids, including walnuts, pumpkin seeds, macadamia nuts, freshwater fish, such as salmon and tuna. Have you tried acupuncture for your migraines?
Avatar f tn Vitamin E is found in all whole grain sources, wheat germ; and omega 3 are in nuts, fish, teas, flaxseed, and egg to name a few. Plus you get the added benefit of the fiber.
198942 tn?1236316304 We all need the essential fatty acids to stay healthy, and oils that are high in Omega 3 oils, we get enough Omega 6 oils in our diets through eggs and such. The omega 3 is best obtained from fish, and I take a fish oil supplement for my heart and general brain health, it is in liquid form and not too bad once you get used to it. Flax seed oil is another good oil, it sort of has a "nutty" taste.
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn For skin health you want to eat foods high in Omega 3, Antioxidants, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C. Some examples are Fish, and Nuts/Seeds for Omega 3. Berries for Antioxidants ( I love adding blueberries), Spinach or offer Leafy veggies for Vit E. Broccoli, cantaloupe for Vit C.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
