Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 in kelp

omega-3

Avatar f tn ok im an anorexic and i am currently taking zinc, potassium, calcium , magnesium, omega 3 and vitamin c d. I am about to start taking kelp pills, and was wondering what the risk or dangers would be to me. And are there any side effects to just taking them on thier own? I am just considering the dangers before i proceed with the pills. Any advice would be brilliant and much appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar f tn TSH concentrations did not differ significantly between week 0 and week 4 in the placebo group but increased significantly in both the low-dose kelp and high-dose kelp groups. Free thyroxine concentrations decreased slightly but significantly after 4 weeks of placebo but were unchanged in the low-dose and the high-dose kelp groups.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your responses. I have no idea what this is from. Have never had it before so its interesting.....I'm eating a lot of kelp or taking in iodine, I probably need to add some kelp, Lol. Hmm, I think this one is going to remain a mystery ;-) Hope you all are well.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
Avatar f tn Dear Cath, Please post your thyroid labs (TSH, FREE T3, FREE T4, any antibody tests, even the obsolete Total T4, T3, etc. ) To make it easy to read, you might post like this : TSH ** (.40 - 4.5 ) or whatever range your lab uses FREE T3 ** ( ***-*****) " FREE T4 ** (****-*****) " Have you studied your metabolic panel ?
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
603543 tn?1255294450 kelliebellie just keep in mind that it may not work. I'm not trying to be a spoiler, but I did the Omega 3 thing for 6 months at high dosages. The Omega 3 suppliment I was using was top grade from a health store. It cost twice as much as other formulas because of it higher quality. 6 full months of this Omega 3 experiment produced absolutly no improvement in my Severe depression. Perhaps my condition is more severe than your and that's why I failed to respond to it.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn This has still not answered my question.. I had to take radioactive iodine to destroy my thyroid.. I take 1.25 mcg daily, can I take kelp also with the synthroid??? In the 80's I went on a kelp,lecithin.b6 vinegar diet and lost a lot of weight.. but I need to know if I can take kelp safely with synthroid??
Avatar m tn I think omega 3's helped me. It affects my asthma and makes it hard to breathe. I took them for 2 months, asthma was settling down and since they were expensive I stopped taking the omega 3 supplement. However, a week later I'm worse than ever and can't breathe. I bought some more so we will see. Omega 3's are anti-inflammatory so theortically they should help with mucsous since it is an inflammatory response.
Avatar f tn Hmmm...that was my own thinking at work...I figured since kelp had so many minerals in it, including iodine, it would help a pokey thyroid work more efficiently...Not so? It's only day 3, and I'm already starting the hot flashes and subtle aches after the endo had me stop the Synthroid cold-turkey...
Avatar f tn There's a thread here on to iodine or not to iodine. Typically, it depends on why your thyroid is off -- if it's dead completely, it's too late for iodine (which is what the kelp has in it that helps the thyroid). If it's hyperthyroid, iodine is usually not recommended. And it probably isn't recommended if the problem is an autoimmune disorder, such as Hashimoto's. But there's controversy here.
