Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 good source

omega-3

518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn An interesting question would be, does the source of omega 3 matter, assuming this study is true (and the article cited by Gymdandee suggests it isn't a good study for this). Some have argued that too much flax might be a bad idea.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn Hemp seed oil is another good source of omega 3 fats. Not only should this be safe for diabetics, your doctor would probably recommend it, since it helps the heart and helps with circulation.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
1645208 tn?1301072177 Fish oils and all oily fish are extremely good for dogs. Omega 3 oils, all-round healthy for dogs and people. Tuna, sardines, salmon, mackerel.....(mind the bones. They can be dangerous of course) The bones in canned fish are ok, they are softer and not only edible but an excellent source of calcium too.
Avatar n tn It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
9214378 tn?1408881584 s a great question, but the answer is going to be a bit complicated, so bare with me. Eggs are normally good for dogs in small quantities. But, they contain good omega-3 fatty acid AND the bad-for-dogs-in-kidney-failure omega-6 fatty acid. The best answer with eggs I have found is to be cautious, because what happened to eggs through mass production and processing over the last 100 years has changed their value completely.
Avatar n tn Flax is a seed and comes from a plant. It's a very good source of omega 3s, the good fats. It's high in fiber, low in carbohydrates and has many good health benefits including lubricating joints and the intestines (good for IBS or Crohns patients), it helps protect against heart disease and cancer. They also believe it's good for the brain because the brain needs good fats. That's why they believe it's good for those with ADHD.
Avatar m tn Krill oil is very good for Omega 3 oils, but it's also environmentally not so good for humans to be using as it's the main source of food for so many endangered and threatened species. Something to think about. Nordic Naturals makes a fine fish oil not made of krill, with a dedicated fishery in clean waters off Scandanavia.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
317787 tn?1473358451 Krill oil is a source of certain types of Omega 3 oils. There are different ones. Fish oil contains two types, and flax seed oil and hemp seed oil, for example, supply some as well. Now, I have a personal objection to krill oil, which is, krill are being killed off to get this oil and they are the food supply for most of what lives in the ocean, especially the larger creatures. Krill are tiny crustaceans and so it takes millions and millions of them to make some oil.
612551 tn?1450022175 Flax seed is generally considered a good diet supplement for omega 3 and other good stuff - for humans. Is it good to add to dog food, either canned or home cooked? I suppose if you dog eats Kibble with water some could be mixed in there too.
Avatar f tn Hello there mammo glad to see you here! You already received excellent advices from Pax i would only like to add that Niacin ( vitamin B3 ) should also be included in your dailies as it can also lower your lipoprotein A. You can get Niacin by prescription or try to find the best one at you local health store.
671251 tn?1236116671 It also said that flax seed and flax seed oil are high in Omega 3 fatty acids without the worry of mercury. Flax seed flour is good to add to foods in place of some of the flour. It has to be ground or crushed to be used by our bodies. Walnuts are another good source too. I found a good recipe for salmon cakes in Joy of Cooking. Here is the recipe I used.
374933 tn?1291081784 I use Nordic Naturals or Trader Joe's brands and have no problems with them. they are molecularly distilled to remove any heavy metals. If the complex means omega 3-6-9. stay away. Our diets our usually heavy on the omega 6's and low on the omega-3's. Taking Omega 3 is enough to set the balance straight. Omega 3's are a great supplement and can help inflammation, cholesterol, heart disease and in high enough doses- mood.
Avatar n tn I have been taking fish oil for about 5 years now and take approximately 2 grams with an Omega-3 total breakdown of 600 EHA and 400 DHA per day. I know I know, talk to your doctor bla bla bla (and I will to be sure) In the meantime should I trash the pills?
Avatar m tn t bad for you, and there are many different ones, some of which are as good for you as omega 3 fatty acids, such as GLA. As for seaweed being a source of DHA, it is generally believed that the DHA in seaweed isn't absorbed by humans. It is absorbed by fish, which is where the fish get the DHA from in the first place -- eating seaweed, particularly red seaweed, which is usually not digestible for humans.
Avatar f tn My father has two small blood clots in his leg below the knee. He can not take Coumadin well and had reactions after several weeks twenty years ago, and now we have been trying alternative therapies with an alternative doctor who is also an MD. We have choses Nattokinase to reduce fribrin which can help dissolve the clots according to European and Asian research, and high Omega 3's which help thin the blood.
Avatar n tn Fish for inflammation and fat levels Fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, tuna, and trout are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids can help improve liver fat levelsTrusted Source and bring down inflammationTrusted Source. Try this teriyaki halibut recipe, recommended by the Canadian Liver Foundation, that’s especially low in fat. 5. Oatmeal for energy Carbohydrates from whole grains like oatmeal give your body energy.
440171 tn?1204778801 I was told today that Omega 3 Fish Oil is good also for dry skin. I just got a bottle and you just have to take one capsule once a day. It isn't expensive either.
