Avatar n tn In 1987, researchers further documented that 48 children with ADHD reported significantly greater thirst, more frequent urination, and more health and learning problems than children without ADHD. Significantly lower levels of two omega-6 fatty acids and one omega-3 fatty acid (DHA) were found in the subjects with ADHD symptoms.
Avatar f tn Omega-3 Fatthy Acids, in the form of fish oilt supplements, certainly offer a benefit for the health of brain cells (neurons). However, having said that, Omega-3 is not an ADHD treatment. While Omega-3 will likely offer a benefit to your son, it will not eliminate symptoms of ADHD (assuming that your son was diagnosed accurately to begin with).
Avatar f tn Nordic Naturals is a good brand of Omega -3 Fatty acids. A lot sold in supermarkets, drugs stores, are rancid, actually doing more harm than good. They ahve a website, they also have research on their site as well.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

510969 tn?1212855281 RE: "Does anyone know of a stimulant other than Adderal...or herb or anything that can help ADHD?" Yes! I have searched for years to find an alternative to medication that works and have finnally found it. It is working for my son when nothing else has: l-theanine, an amino acid from green tea. One thing is very important, though. It is crucial that the correct form is used. Several supplements contain the d as well as the l form and are not as effective.
Avatar f tn i have an 8yr old asd son he was also tilte adhd ritalin la was suggested is that good
467977 tn?1262714747 hey, the only thing that MIGHt help would be fish oils, more specifically Omega-3. It can assist in concentration, but wont help in terms of the ADHD. Medications prescribed by the doctor is the best way to go. People with ADHD have low levels of dopamine (which controls behaivour and concentration). The medications for ADHD are amphetamines, which are stimulants. When taken, they speed up your brain and raise dopamine levels. For a normal person, it makes them feel happy!

In fact, all studies show that the meds are not a magic pill that will make everything ok. However, the meds will buy time for the child to learn coping skills. For things that you can do besides meds, check out "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley. You will get a ton of ideas and more importantly ways that the school can help your child. But to answer your question.
Avatar f tn s suggestion, he has been taking Omega 3 supplements for about a year and a half. He also takes a daily chewable multi-vitamin. So far this has not helped.
Avatar f tn My 8 yr old has OCD. He was diagnosed at age 6 after an awful year of trying to figure out what the heck was going on. We've had some hellish times, we chose not to medicate him. We started giving him daily Omega 3-6-9 suppliments and it seems to help him. He's in a better mood, so he's more capable of being flexible and gets caught in less "loops".
Avatar m tn I have also heard other people talking about natural supplements, such as Omega 3,6,9, Fish Oil and Vitamin C. I have also never tried this for my stepson, but plan to. Hope this helps!

Avatar n tn I have been taking fish oil for about 5 years now and take approximately 2 grams with an Omega-3 total breakdown of 600 EHA and 400 DHA per day. I know I know, talk to your doctor bla bla bla (and I will to be sure) In the meantime should I trash the pills?
