Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.

Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
Avatar m tn Others argue that too much fatty fish might be a problem not because of the Omega 3 oils but the contaminants that have gotten into our fatty fish (you can avoid some of this by taking a reliable supplement, but unfortunately we have to rely on company reputation for this as nobody is doing much checking out there). And with flax, is there a difference between organically grown and that grown with carcinogenic chemical applications? Between farm raised fish and wild fish?
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Researchers believe that these stores may be located in the brain, which can result in a loss of up to 3% of your brain cells. 4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn humans can make all necessary fatty acids but omega-3 and omega-6. Usual contemporary diets are low in these nutrients and have been proposed as a cause of many conditions.
296340 tn?1336164001 Nuts and seeds, including almonds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds, are a great source of fatty acids. Omega 3 and omega fatty acids are hormone regulators and vital to a woman’s fertility since a hormonal imbalance can interfere with ovulation. Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn ) to formulate a food that has no omega-6 fatty acids. Rather, we want to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oils) to reduce the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the food. So, rather than add a supplement to a food, you are better served to feed a food that already has increased omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, EPA and DHA), and has a ratio of n-6 to n-3 of between 10:1 and 5:1.
Avatar m tn Each quartile corresponded to the level of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood. The first quartile was very low in omega-3 fatty acids; the second quartile was higher in omega-3s, etc. The researchers found that the men in the second-lowest quartile had a 45 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared with those in the lowest quartile, and those in the second highest quartile had a 72 percent lower risk of death.
Avatar f tn One study found that fertile men tended to have higher blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids, while infertile men had higher levels of omega-6 fatty acids. And with diets heavy in grain fed animals most of us get less of the omega-3s and far more of the undesirable omega-6 fatty acids. Switch to fresh all-natural grass-fed meats. Omega-3 fatty acids aren't the only answers.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
