I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

For Omega-3, you need to make sure that what you're taking has a high concentration of EPA fats, as these are the ones that will actually help with mood stabilization. Look for capsules that come from fish oil, not flax seed, because flax contains a different type of Omega-3 (ALA). I use a brand called OmegaBrite because my doctor recommended it, actually. Apparently it's one of the best out there to help treat bipolar disorder and depression.

Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.

Avatar f tn t recommend medication, whether pregnant or not, plus they have research studies that show medication can cause deformalities and other problems for mom and baby. Psychotherapy is very helpful, and omega 3 fatty acids have been proven to release feel good hormones and decrease effects of depression. Stay away from sugar and caffeine, which does the exact opposite. Also, if you can reach out to family/friends that can be a shoulder to lean on.
Avatar f tn It may be a good idea to try taking a combination of Omega 3 and Cod Liver Oil capsules, along with a high strength vitamin C tablet. Omega 3 has been proven to both increase brain function and help depression and help joint pain. Cod liver oil will help with this as well and the Vitamin C will destroy all the Free Radicals in your blood stream which would kill off the Omega 3 and Cod liver oils and stop them working.
Avatar m tn Hello, I've heard the use of omega 3 in Depression, but not in Anxiety. I wouldn't be supprised if it works for Anxiety, as I've heard this stuff can work miracles. I might try it myself to see if I notice any changes.
Avatar f tn U know it sounds to me like ur brain is very low in Omega 3. Omega 3 is a good fat that can be found in large amounts in oily fish such as Mackeral... Omega 3 is scientifically known to improve concentration, lower anxiety and in effect 'wake the brain up'.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
